Ed phones Angela to come over with the first aid bag, as they try to stop the bleeding; Gemma is aghast at what she has done, and Dani is panicking. Angela is adamant that she should go to hospital, but after Ed giving an unconvincing explanation, she sews up the wound in Dani’s chest, and tells her to take some paracetamol – “and stay away from Ed!” Dani lies down with a blanket; Gemma packs a bag and quietly leaves.
At Mark’s bedside, Debbie hears that he thought he would never get out, having been there three days. She insists that it is Cadno and Eifion’s fault, although he insists it was simply an accident. In the morning, when Dani wakes, Ed is back there, asking her not to tell anyone what happened, then he goes to Gemma’s room: she is not there, but there is a note – “I’m so sorry.”
Debbie marches into Penrhewl, saying that Mark could have died, and threatening Health and Safety and solicitors. Eifion is upset at failing again, until he later finds one of the snares and realises in fact Cadno is responsible; it could mean that they lose the farm, and he is angry that she was willing to let him think he was to blame.
Ed rings everyone he can think of, without success, and the police say they can do very little; he blames himself. After Angela accuses him of having a relationship with Dani – after all he was there last night – he has to admit what happened, and the truth comes out that Gemma stabbed her mother when she was six, with Andrew, her father, taking the blame and spending twelve years in prison. Angela is distraught that he has kept all these things from her, but yet has told Dani about them. “We are not supposed to have secrets; I thought I knew you!” she cries, and is not calmed when Ed tells her she is “over-reacting”.
Wednesday 2 January 2013
Stock is being sold cheaply at the shop, including mince pies, which all seem to be going to Dai; in the Western Post the news that Megan has been awarded the OBE is on the front page and everyone congratulates her. Garry persuades Sheryl not to open the salon, as Dani is sick, but to go to Y Felin with him and the children. Ricky is looking after Mark, and goes shopping. Ed is on the phone to the police and worries that he should be out looking for Gemma; when Angela comments, he tells her that she never got on with Gemma. As Ricky is at the shop, he sees Megan, telling her she is the most important person he knows; Hywel wants her on Cwm FM, although Sion is anti-royalist.
Angela says she didn’t want Courtney living with a murderer, but that is just what has happened. Cadno visits Mark, who assures her he does not blame her — he has “two left feet”, and reveals he saw Gemma in the field, and was chasing after her. The White family are playing at Y Felin, with Gwern and Wil, and later Garry and Sheryl cuddle on the sofa. The next visitor to Mark is Megan, “the Queen’s guest”, who brings a cake.
Ed broods over the situation, saying that he has made such a mess, he has let Gemma down. Angela reckons Andrew should be dealing with it, to which Ed replies, “Being selfish doesn’t come so easily to some people as to you.” After he has contacted Andrew, who has not heard from Gemma, he says he will go searching in Carmarthen tomorrow, alone. Angela shouts that it’s all about Gemma; she and Courtney don’t count!
Thursday 3 January 2013
Gethin returns from London and is surprised to hear that Sheryl is with Garry, and that Dani is “ill”. The bank auditing team have arrived, and there are inconsistencies; Moc has left things in a mess. Gwyneth is worried as she only had a verbal agreement that her £15,000 loan had been written off.
Dani’s arm is in a sling, but she refuses to go to hospital, wanting to keep the circumstances secret. Everyone is commenting on Megan’s forthcoming visit to Buckingham Palace, with Sion being scathing about “the empire” and Diane angling to accompany Megan, as Rhian Haf cannot go. Sion suggests moving Sunday School to Friday evening; Megan does not agree.
Sheryl discusses with a customer a holiday she is planning, and Gwyneth takes exception when she hears that Garry wants to take Gwern. Dai is doing the APD accounts when Diane takes over the laptop and looks for new clothes for the palace visit. Ed is checking his laptop when Dani arrives, bringing a list of Gemma’s friends’ phone numbers; she tries to convince Ed that Gemma will come back. Gethin meets Dani in the Deri and says he has been watching the way she looks at Ed. “What’s going on? Don’t fall for him!” Dani replies, “Too late!”
After she has gone, he corners Ed and tells him to concentrate on his relationship with Angela. He doesn’t want Dani getting hurt — “Stay away!”
Friday 4 January 2013
Mark is making the most of his injury, lazing while Ricky has to wait on him. Hywel and Dai are in the cafe, talking rugby and Macs comments that he has “plenty of stamina”; Diane arrives to show them her new hat for the palace. Debbie treats Megan to tea, and butters her up, hoping she will be chosen, but the thought of volunteering in the charity shop does not appeal. Tempers are frayed at Penrhewl, as Eifion worries that Mark will change his mind. Gaynor visits Mark and is concerned that Ricky is not able to look after him, so she talks to Debbie, who simply makes excuses. Later, Debbie turns up at the farm and persuades Cadno that Mark should be looked after there, as she does not want to be bothered with him.
As the auditors depart from the bank with 7-months’-worth of records, Hywel finds Anita and says he has just remembered that the pictures he found on Moc’s laptop were only uploaded on that same day. Anita reckons that proves Moc is innocent and someone planted the pictures, but Hywel reminds her Moc is responsible for the bank’s trouble. Dai is suffering stomach trouble, suspects all those mince pies, and finds the sell-by dates have been changed by Colin; he demands some compensation from Eileen.
Anita talks to Gethin about the pictures, and almost accuses him of planting them, but he is convinced Moc is a paedophile, saying that he knew Anita was stupid, he had no chance to plant any evidence; in any case the laptop will be destroyed by now. Megan asks Mark if he will accompany her to London, and he later announces this when being taken to Penrhewl, so Debbie makes a point of giving the news to Diane. At the Deri after rugby practice, Macs starts making snide comments directed at Gaynor; Iolo tells him he doesn’t know when to stop, but Macs replies that their marriage is in trouble and he is simply pointing this out to them.
Monday 7 January 2013
Ed is looking at the news on his laptop: a body has been found on a beach, but there are no details, and he thinks the worst. At the cafe, Debbie is glad that Christmas is over, and some of her customers are complaining that they have put on weight, so she sees a chance of making some money and suggests running a fitness club, as PE was her favourite subject. Macs has designed the new timetable and gives it to Gaynor, making remarks about “danger” and “challenge”; he leaves his phone behind, so Gaynor has a snoop and finds her messages to him are still there. She takes it to his house, and insists that he deletes them.
Dani tries to assure Ed that Gemma will come back, and asks Angela if she will take out her stitches. Later, Gemma walks in, wanting to know all the details about what happened, and why her father took the blame; she describes him as a coward, but Ed says he sacrificed himself for her. She intends packing more stuff and returning to Swansea, but Ed insists she must stay at the Deri. At this, fearing for Courtney’s safety, Angela decides to leave, and turns up at Jim’s to stay for a few days, trying not to reveal what has happened. All Courtney knows is that Gemma has come home. Jim goes out to get chips for their dinner.
Debbie is working out how much she is likely to make from her scam as Ricky prints out her publicity poster. Home from school, Gaynor is in a bad mood, snapping at Hywel (who used to be a teacher); after dinner, she breaks a cup, cuts herself and Hywel applies a plaster. Gemma is very upset that she has scarred Dani, as well as coming between Ed and Angela.
Tuesday 8 January 2013
Jim asks Angela how long she and Courtney will be staying, and after more questions she reveals that Ed has cancer. Soon he is telling Dai that Ed will be losing one of his “Stonehenge Rocks”. Meic is having a haircut at the salon when Gwyneth complains that Sheryl and Garry have been spoiling Gwern.
Dani visits Ed and gives Gemma a bunch of flowers to welcome her back, assuring her that she knows it was an accident, and lets Ed explain the whole truth. Gemma cannot believe that he has kept all this from her for so many years, and says she cannot trust him, until he reveals that he has cancer. He tells Gemma that the operation is supposed to be next week, but he has not confirmed he will be there.
In the shop Jim tells Eileen that it is like world war three at home with Angela, then Debbie comes in, wanting her handbill to be displayed. At Jim’s, Angela is removing the stiches from Dani’s wound, when Jim returns and wonders what is going on; after peering at Dani’s chest, he asks Angela to tell him next time she turns his house into a surgery. Meic meets Garry and Sheryl, and says that whoever injured him will never be caught; he is putting it behind him. Garry is convinced that “Meic hasn’t got a clue” about who was responsible.
Gemma tells Dani that she has tried to persuade Ed to go for the operation, and doesn’t know why he is so afraid of the hospital; Dani agrees to try and persuade him. Gwyneth receives an official letter, about a “serious matter”, which worries her. Sheryl tells Garry about her disagreement with Gwyneth; he advises her to agree with Gwyneth, to keep her quiet.
After a conversation with Dani, Ed finally agrees to go for the operation; Gemma notices them holding hands and tells Ed, “you seem to be getting on well.” He makes a bargain: he will go for the op, if she will see a counsellor; she agrees.
Wednesday 9 January 2013
Mark is being spoilt by Marian with a constant supply of food; Britt calls in with a gift, as do Jinx and Ffion (with baby Arwen), then Colin. Dai complains that the shop prices have gone up, but Colin blames him for that.
When someone mentions “public liability insurance” to Debbie, she is worried, but Kevin tells her to get everyone to sign a disclaimer. Ricky is at home, feeling guilty, checking bus timetables online, and later, looking up “hypothermia” on the laptop. Dai then arrives at the farm, but cannot stay as it is the rugby match, with Macs playing. Eifion complains that it is like hospital visiting hour. Mark gets a text from Gemma, wanting to see him, but Cadno dissuades him.

Mark gets a text from Gemma, wanting to see him, but Cadno dissuades him.
At Bethania there is no heating but the Keep Fit begins, with a lot of women plus Colin, who shows off. Debbie gets them gently jogging; Anita arrives, looks through the door and goes home again; Ffion wonders if she should take over. After the session, Debbie collects the money; there are complaints, and some say they will not come again.
At the Deri after the match, Dai is full of praise for Macs, who scored two tries, though Hywel is not so keen. Dai announces to Hywel that he calls Ed, “Ed Balls”, which does not go down well with Hywel, who has apparently had cancer. He also says that Jim is not happy having Angela back in the house. Macs has an admirer, a girl from Llanarthur, who buys him a drink. He gets Iolo to go along with a scam, in which he gets the girl, and her friend, Alice, to join them. Macs persuades the girl to approach Hywel, say, “Hello, gorgeous,” and kiss him, while Macs photographs the moment on his phone. As Hywel fights off the girl, she says she mistook him for someone else. Iolo is keen to escape from Alice, but Macs just smirks.
Friday 11 January 2013 (1st)
Jim comes home; Angela is still there, and has moved his toolbox. He asks her how long she will be staying and says he will charge her rent. Hywel is at the school, returning a repaired laptop; Macs asks him what to do with this – the photo. He replies, “do what you like with it!” Then Macs shows the photo to Gaynor, who already knows about it; she is disappointed by his childishness.
Jim finds Ed in the shop and asks him how long Angela is likely to stay; Ed does not want to talk, but Jim quietly mentions his cancer; of course Eileen and Colin overhear. Then Sioned comes in as Jim is talking about Eileen’s flying lessons; she quickly leaves, and texts Jim to come and see her. Dani and Gemma are glad that Ed is having the operation next week, and he appreciates their support. Jim sees Angela in the cafe, but she tells him to mind his own business about Ed and her. Macs is seen with his laptop, and shortly afterwards Hywel shows Gaynor that he has published the photograph on the internet; she tries to give the impression of not caring.
Anita calls at the shop and tells Colin that Dani and Gethin are not interested in her opinion that Moc was framed. Colin tells her to move on, as this is not doing her any good. When Jim goes to Sioned’s, she tells him that her mother has a fear of flying, but he dismisses this as spite, and says she is playing games, but she insists it is the truth. When Hywel goes to the Deri, Dani remarks, “Are you going to snog me, too?” Then he confronts Macs, and warns him he will regret his little scheme. Courtney is worried about where they are going to live, so Angela reveals that Ed has cancer, and Courtney asks, “Then why aren’t you with him?” Angela walks into the Deri, where Ed, Dani and Gemma are having a drink, and announces that she will move back in if Gemma goes, and if half of the business is signed over to her; Ed is not going to agree to any of that.
Friday 11 January 2013 (2nd)
Gemma is willling to move out if it means Ed and Angela get back together, but Ed says no. Mark is taking advantage at Penrhewl, faking pain to get sympathy. Eileen finally confesses to Jim that she is scared of flying and has been since childhood. His face falls; “Sioned was telling the truth!” He tries to get a refund, but can only choose another activity; Eileen does not fancy Scuba Diving or sailing, but wants to drive a Ferrari, so he organises that. For their Anniversary, Sion buys Britt some primroses called “Britt”. Gemma goes to visit Mark, telling him how bad she feels, but he says she had no right on the land. She points out that the traps should have been checked regularly. In the end he agrees his accident was not her fault. Eifion drives her back to the village, and agrees that if she keeps quiet about the traps, they will not mention the turkeys she sabotaged.
Jim is rather sheepish in front of Sioned and apologises; she says that she is used to not being believed, but tells him to believe her in future, as she is not all bad.
Back at the Deri, Gemma asks Ed if he will do what Angela demanded; he wonders if he really does want her back. Ricky is still worried about hypothermia, and is scared that his dad may die, so Debbie goes off to Penrhewl and tells Mark he is going home, much to Eifion’s relief. Sion and Britt have a bottle of wine in the Deri to celebrate, and when they leave, Britt tells Ed that if he loves Angela, he should talk to her; he is about to ring her, but then he hesitates; just at that moment Dani comes in, saying that instead of watching telly, she wanted to be with him.
Monday 14 January 2013
Meic is being badgered by Kevin about celebrating his 60th birthday, but Meic is determined not to. In the shop he is given presents by Eileen and Dai, then out in the street, he wonders why everyone is congratulating him, until Jim removes the paper stuck to his back. . The Deri is prepared for the surprise party, but when Meic walks in, he soon walks out again, saying, “Leave me alone.”
Ed has received notification that his operation is on Thursday, and tells Dani Anita follows Meic home, and he tells her that he and Denzil were going fishing on his 60th birthday, and how he still misses his friend. He wonders who needs him now, and Anita is sorry that she pushed him away. He agrees to go back to the Deri if she will go with him. Meanwhile the party is continuing, with Debbie leading “Cwmba” dancing. Jim is complaining at Ed, and tells him to either have Angela back or get rid of her, in order to get her out of Jim’s house. Ed stalks off upstairs and Dani follows; she tells him he doesn’t have to pretend with her, they kiss and end up on the sofa . . .
Meic returns with Anita, announces the reason for his previous departure, and when asked to hand the knife to him to cut his cake, Gemma freezes in panic. Then Dani and Ed come downstairs, Ed apologising to her. As Sheryl and Garry are leaving, they agree that Anita can come over and see Wil. Eileen asks what Sioned wants to do on Friday, the anniversary of her father’s death, and she hurries off, visibly upset and still blaming herself for causing his heart attack. Kevin suggests that Meic should take him fishing instead.
Tuesday 15 January 2013
Angela borrows Jim’s car without asking him, causing another argument with Courtney in the middle; Jim says she has to get an answer from Ed — today. Hywel is at Sioned’s; they talk about teacher shortages; Macs comes in, and Hywel warns him, “Don’t interfere with my marriage; don’t cross me; you don’t know how far I would go!” Gemma is reluctant to go to therapy, saying it will not remove memories. Dani warns Ed at the Deri that Jim has given Angela an ultimatum; just than Angela comes in, turning on the tears about living with a man who hates her and Courtney suffering. “Who is more important – Gemma or me?” she demands, and Ed tells her she had better leave, now. Outside the Deri, Courtney talks to Gemma, but Angela says she has to stay away. Gemma goes back inside, Courtney says she wants to go and see her dad, but of course goes back inside the pub and chats to Gemma, who explains everything (except the murder) to her. Courtney says that it is horrible when everyone lies to her, but Gem replies that they are trying to protect her.
Ed goes for a meal with Hywel and Gaynor, who overdoes the sympathy; Hywel says that Ed needs someone to support him at such a time, like he shared everything with his girlfriend at the time, Cassie.
Sioned is still upset about the anniversary of Denzil’s death, and Macs tries to help by telling how the first year after his Mam’s death was hard, but after that became easier. Marian wants to have a procession to the grave.
Rhys is very angry with Hywel, having seen the photo online at “CnocCnoc”, which he finds embarrassing; although Hywel thinks Gaynor is not bothered about it, Rhys assures him, “she’s not fine, can’t you see?” Ed returns to the Deri and finds Gemma has not been to therapy, and is worried about Angela not coming back. Later Dani offers to have Gemma back sharing with her, as that will enable Angela to look after Ed after the operation. Gemma describes her as Saint Dani.
Wednesday 16 January 2013
Gemma is moving back to Dani’s; she asks Dani if she is sure she wants her, “even though I’m nuts,” and admits there is something stopping her going to therapy. Dani begs her just to go once —she rearranges her appointment. Garry is supposed to be looking after Gwern, but Sheryl tells Gwyneth that he is away in Swansea. Later, after the therapy, Gemma is much calmer; she tells Ed that if Dani can forgive her, she might be able to forgive herself. Ed assures her he will be OK without her, and she urges him to ring Angela to come back. He takes the last box to Dani’s and thanks her for all she has done for Gemma; he kisses her, and leaves, and Dani looks rather puzzled.
In the Vestry, the heating is on this week, (in fact it will not turn off) and Debbie tries to increase the charge to £4, but has forgotten the CDs, so they make do with a cassette of Male Voice Choir music; Colin overdoes it again. The customers are disgruntled with only one routine over and over again, and the excessive heating; in the end they all walk out, complaining, with Diane telling Debbie she should be ashamed of herself, giving them 90 minutes of hell and charging £4. Britt tells her that Sion will send her the heating bill.
Dani asks Sheryl how to tell the difference between love and sex, as she doesn’t have much experience, having only slept with 2½ people. Sheryl, surprised at being asked for relationship advice, says that while not rushing things, it is better to do it than to regret not doing it.
Mark has been eating a huge bowl of trifle from Megan, who says she will bring him a hamper; also he is promised a visit from Marian the next day. Dani goes to Ed, who is packing for his operation. He tells her he is not worried about the op, but what he will feel like after it; she assures him he will still be Ed; they kiss, and walk out hand in hand . . . towards the bedroom?
Thursday 17 January 2013
Ed wakes — Dani is beside him, still sleeping. When she opens her eyes, he tells her his wish is that she should be there when he wakes after the operation. Gaynor is scathing about Hywel’s suggestion that they go to the Deri, as everyone would be talking about that photo. Rhys says he has had his leg pulled, but it is Gaynor that Hywel should be worried about. Later he raises the matter with Gaynor, but she says nothing is wrong. Marian has turned up early at Mark’s, has found his hamper of food from Megan, and has again been tidying up, saying he needs someone to look after him. Dani is cleaning the salon windows, when Gethin sees her and notices a look in her eye; he hopes she is not thinking about Ed, and doesn’t want her to get hurt; she tells him to leave her alone. Angela at the cash machine finds she has no money left. Dani has a text with just three kisses; Sheryl wants to know who it is, and when Dani mentions cancer, she knows. Dani, “just wants him to be OK.”
When Hywel returns home, Rhys has another go; “You’ve broken her heart,’ he says, and warns that Gaynor does not mean what she says. Hywel replies that he is not stupid: he knows ewho that gil had been talking to, and he knew who laughed loudest — Macs! Rhys reckons that Macs deserves a punch; he says that no-one else will save Hywel’s marriage. Angela is in the Deri, and learns that Gemma is back in the flat with Dani, which pleases her, but when she hears from Hywel that Ed is having the operation, she dashes off.
Under Marian’s instruction, Mark phones Megan to tell her he does not need any more food; then he finds that Marian has been tidying the post away into a drawer, and finds an unpaid bill; he phones to explain he has been in hospital, but to no avail. Hywel phones Sioned, to arrange an appointment with her.
Ed comes round after the anaesthetic, and sees Dani by his side; as they hold hands, Angela arrives; she says she will take him home, but he insists Dani is doing that. Angela walks down the corridor in a daze, then crumples to the floor in tears.
Friday 18 January 2013
Iolo brings a birthday present to Sioned — she is 21! Immediately afterwards a wreath is delivered for Denzil’s grave; Eileen says she will see Sioned later. At Penrhewl, Marian has prepared lots of food, and she reads the tribute to Denzil, written by Sion in the Cwm Ni paper. When Sioned arrives, she sees all the food and everything that has been planned, puts down the wreath and walks out, saying she has better things to do on her 21st birthday; Marian is in tears. Eifion follows her out and they talk as they walk though the fields; he gets a thorn in his hand and she tenderly removes it. She regrets not taking notice of what her dad told her; she was too busy chasing boys or being a Goth. She asks Eifion how he manages to see the best in people; she always pushed people away. She had given her Mam a year of hell, and says that children would not want her as a mother. Eifion says if she was his Mam, he wouldn’t bring his mates home, as they would fancy her. She asks if it is possible to start with a clean slate. She goes to Eileen, who is back from the cemetery, and says that since Dad died, the family has been falling apart, and wants them at least to be polite to each other.
Sheryl and Wil pick up Gwern to go to Chester’s birthday party, where Iolo is helping out (and there is no sign of Sion). Chester looks quite miserable until Uncle Garry produces a posh bike as their present. At the end, Wil and Gwern go home with Sheryl and Garry, but at bedtime the two boys are squabbling and Sheryl tells Gwern, “Give it back!” and grabs his arm, at which Garry roughly grabs her arm, saying, “No-one touches my son like that!” He later regrets his hasty outburst.
When Sioned and Eileen return to the farmhouse, Marion is pleased to see her back, and Sioned says that they have not been much like a family lately, but Marian is the glue holding us together. After Eileen has left, Sioned thanks Eifion for his good advice, and looks at his injured hand, holding it just a little too long; as she leaves, they both look rather uneasy.
Monday 21 January 2013
A new supply teacher arrives at Ysgol y Mynydd — Hywel Llywelyn, and Gaynor’s response is, ”What are you doing here? You haven’t taught since last century!” He used to be head of geography there. Macs tells Gaynor it is all around the staffroom; “Didn’t Sioned tell you?” asks Gaynor.
Dani finds Ed moving chairs and tells him, “No heavy lifting.” She reassures him that Gemma is more relaxed after therapy. Dani is still worried about Ed and it has reminded her of losing Brandon. Sioned is at the school, and Macs asks why she had not told him. Hywel agrees with Macs that he is up to something: now it is his turn to interfere in Macs’ life, and he is going to ruin it. Just as Dani is leaving Angela arrives at the Deri, acting as though nothing has happened and planning a celebration for St Dwynwen’s night.

After the class has a rowdy start, causing Macs to complain, and warning Hywel that he won’t last a day, the teaching settles down well, which does not please Macs. Angela is assuming that now Gemma has moved out, she can move back in; she goes on about turning the clock back and Courtney needing stability, but Ed just wants time to think, and tells her, “It’s all got to be about Angela!”
At home, Gaynor tells Hywel that the governors might not like him at school, but he says he has enjoyed it. Rhys says, “Your plan worked, then!” and Gaynor begins to see what is happening. She accuses him of only being there to score points. Sioned is surprised that Macs is still sulking about Hywel being at school, and does not believe that Hywel is deliberately making things difficult for Macs. Dani arrives at the Deri, but Angela refuses to let her go upstairs to Ed; “You’ll never take Ed from me,” she snarls, but Dani calmly replies, “That’s up to Ed.”
Tuesday 22 January 2013
At Penrhewl, Eifion opens the post — a letter from “Injuries2U”: Mark is now claiming £1000. Eifion is very angry with Cadno, asking why she had to set those traps. At the salon, Megan wants an appointment before her visit to the Queen on Thursday. Mark is back at school, sees Hywel there and asks why they have let him back in the school after seducing Stacey and Nia. Mark tells Macs about Hywel’s history, and he runs straight to Gaynor, saying Hywel is not fit to be a teacher. Gaynor says he did not break the law, and asks, “How old was Izzy?” before ordering him back to work. Sheryl asks Sion how he manages to be a good stepfather, as she is finding it difficult with Gwern, and has never been another child’s mother. Mark is on the phone, querying a £300 gas bill for one quarter. Eifion arrives at school, wants him to drop the claim, and tells him he has not heard the last of this, as Hywel orders him out of the school.
Garry and Gwern visit Britt, who suspects all is not well with Sheryl, and he admits he is worried it might not work out. Britt says he’s afraid he may lose his temper again. At home, Eifion is not eating, and warns Cadno that he could not get Mark to change his mind; he shouts at her again. Megan visits Mark at home, where it is very cold, and he has a hot-water-bottle inside his jacket, reminding him to buy his railway ticket and get a decent suit.
Macs gets home and meets Iolo; he says everyone is talking about Hywel getting a pupil pregnant and having an affair with Mark’s sister — a real perv! Iolo heard that Nia fleeced Hywel when they divorced. When Macs says that Hywel is stirring up trouble for him, Iolo replies that he has brought it on himself; stop before it gets out of hand. Sheryl is cooking when Garry and Gwern return; she gives Gwern a present and Garry has one for Wil.
Mark goes to Penrhewl and says that he has to claim as he has no money; he is adamant, Cadno tries to suggest settling it among themselves, as Gemma could reveal the truth, but Eifion refuses any compromise. Mark leaves, saying he will fight for every penny!
Wednesday 23 January 2013
Jim find Angela reorganising his kitchen cupboards; “You have no right doing this,” he shouts, throwing a bag of crisps at her; as she throws it back, Courtney walks in, and immediately leaves. “I don’t want to live with you,” says Jim.
Later she wants to borrow the car; “Buy your own!” rages Jim. At the shop he is complaining about Angela to Eileen, who says he has to deal with it, and asks if there is still a “flame” there. He retorts that if there were he would put her on the bonfire. He thinks it would be a good idea for him to move in with Eileen, but she objects, as he is only trying to escape from Angela, and he goes back to the “war zone”.

Cadno goes to see Mark, and tries to settle the claim by offering £500, but he refuses, after some haggling agreeing to £800, which she hands over. Mark is doubtful that he will be going to London. When she gets home Eifion is furious that she has spent all this money, and even more so when he learns that it is from Bobi’s account. There is only £51 left in the account, but Cadno insists she will put it all back.
Angela is back at the Deri, organising everything without Ed’s agreement, and he says they will not be pretending to be a happy couple on St Dwynwen’s day. Jim comes in and realises that Courtney is missing; Angela flies off the handle and blames him. Courtney has in fact been sitting on a bench outside, crying, and than goes to Ricky’s, asking Mark if she can stay the night, as she does not want to go home. However, Mark takes her to the Deri, and as soon as her parents see her, they start at each other again; Mark shouts at them that he and Debbie always put Ricky first, as Courtney runs upstairs. Later she tells Angela that all she ever does is bicker, she really wants to live in the Deri. Angela assures her that when Ed is feeling better, he will see things more clearly; he is just outside, listening, and looks less than pleased.

Gemma reveals to Dani that the therapy has helped her remember things about her Mam. Hywel meets Macs in the school; “I don’t know why I stopped teaching,” he says, and Macs replies, “because you were putting your dirty hands on schoolgirls.” Hywel tells him, “This school isn’t big enough for both of us!” Later Macs accuses Hywel of point-scoring, and Hywel wonders if he has his dictaphone with him. He says, “Once I’ve got rid of you, I’m off,” but Gaynor is standing behind him. As Macs smirks, she orders Hywel to the office and tells him he is sacked, and she wants no more stupid games with Macs.
Eileen apologises to Jim, but points out that she could move into his house — once Angela has gone. Meic and Anita are in the Deri; they decide to go for a meal to avoid the Lovers’ Quiz in the evening. Gaynor asks Sioned to find another Geography teacher, as Hywel is rusty; Sioned tells Macs she hopes that it is not down to him. When Gaynor gets home, she tells Hywel she wants no more nonsense with Macs. Jim brings Eileen flowers and apologises; he tells her she is welcome to move in, but Courtney is his main concern at present.
Gemma tells Angela it has done Ed good, not having her around; they go upstairs, where Gemma tells her that she is remembering things, like seeing her Dad and Angela in bed. Angela says that her Mam was drinking, but Gemma replies that the drinking was caused by Angela’s affair. In the bar, they can hear shouting upstairs, so Ed investigates; Gemma accuses Angela of telling her father to stay away after the food poisoning scare. She explains to Ed that she found her Dad and Angela in bed. Angela walks out and goes downstairs, followed by Gemma, who will not let things rest. In front of a pub-ful of customers, Gemma says Angela dumped her dad after sleeping with him, and in reply Angela reveals that Gemma stabbed Dani as well as killing her mother. As Ed orders her, “Out, now!” there is a stunned silence from the audience.

Gemma asks Ed how he can be so cool after what Angela said; he tells her not to let it upset her. Gethin asks Dani why she had not said anything before about Angela’s allegations, and she tries, unsuccessfully, to deny things; he warns that she will get hurt if she is in the middle. When she has gone, he says he hopes Ed is proud, embarrassing Dani like that; leave her alone!
At the quiz, they wonder where Gaynor and Hywel are; “Having a domestic,” sneers Macs. Ffion sympathises with Gemma, as she has been the subject of gossip in the past. Britt asks Dani why Angela said that she and Ed were having an affair, and Dani is not convincing in her reply. As the quiz is under way, Angela arrives, as if nothing has happened; Ed wants to talk to her upstairs. She apologises, but Ed wants to know whether it is for what she said about Gemma, or for sleeping with his brother. She wants to know whether he has slept with Dani, and maintains that he is “not himself”; Ed says he doesn’t care about her and Andrew, “the problem is us – you and me. It’s over!” She goes on about starting again, and wants to avoid hurting Courtney; Ed points out how she hurt Gemma. “Gem remembered the truth and you wanted revenge. Now leave!” Gemma goes upstairs, and shortly afterwards Dani. Gemma is angry that Angela told half the valley that she killed her mam, and again Ed orders her to leave: “You know the way out.”
Gaynor and Hywel arrive, and Macs look uncomfortable; Jinx comments on Dani being behind the bar, “It’s a practice run for when he throws Angela out.” Sheryl gets all her questions right, and next come Ffion and Jinx, who perform badly. The last couple are Gaynor and Hywel, who win convincingly and are proclaimed champions; they apologise to each other and kiss, which brings a sneer from Macs. Ed publicly thanks everyone, especially Gemma, and afterwards privately thanks Dani for her help and support over the previous two months; it was very important to him. She reassures him that after he gets his results, he can put it all behind him. Meanwhile the door of the Deri opens, and Angela slips out, in tears.

DC Fielding comes to talk to Gemma, as they have received a serious allegation; Dai sees them, and comments on “a murderer”. Gemma tells them what she can remember, and they will pass it to the CPS. Rhys tells Hywel he was almost convinced that he wanted to return to teaching, and Hywel replies that Macs is “prowling” round the school, as he “likes young girls”. Rhys reminds Hywel that he did the same, then hears that Macs raped Izzy, and cannot believe that it has been kept quiet. Hywel tells him to keep an eye on Macs. Dai is having problems reading, but will not admit it; when Angel comes into APD, wanting to borrow Jim’s car again, Dai asks if they have arrested Gemma, and Jim tells him to be a bit tactful.
At school, Rachel is reading to the class, and Macs asks them why he should award her top marks. “Because she has good legs, and she’s pretty,” says Rhys; he also says he is going to compare rape statistics in Wales and England. After the lesson Macs tells him he will take this further.
Sheryl sees the police outside the salon, and dashes to warn Dani, who is suffering from a cold. Rhys tells Rachel to keep away from Mr White, but she attributes it to jealousy. Kevin reminds Garry that it is Sheryl’s birthday on Thursday.
Sheryl sees the police outside the salon, and dashes to warn Dani, who is suffering from a cold. Rhys tells Rachel to keep away from Mr White, but she attributes it to jealousy. Kevin reminds Garry that it is Sheryl’s birthday on Thursday.
In the Deri, Dai is surprised that Gemma has not been arrested, and they wonder who called the police — he is suspected, and Angela, who denies it. Then Courtney admits that she called them; there have been so many lies, and she wants the truth. She asks Gemma to forgive her; she says she understands, and hugs her. Gethin visits Dani, and she is rather depressed until she has a text from Ed, when she brightens up. Garry is home early, catching Sheryl in a facemask, and promising a surprise for her birthday.
Rachel arrives at Macs’ door, for some private tutoring, and Rhys watches her go in, then hurries home, saying that they should call the police, as Rachel is in danger. Hywel replies that if they want him out of the school, they have to be clever and not do anything hasty; but Rhys is adamant that he will stop Macs, one way or another.
Tuesday 29 January 2013
Mark hears that his suit has been lost after being altered; he wants to borrow Rhys’s, but it is the wrong size, and the charity shop has nothing. He lies to Megan, telling her that his day off has been cancelled by Gaynor. Eileen is upset that Angela is twisting Jim round her little finger. She tells Jim that they can go to the cinema if he sorts out the rent with Angela. He tackles Angela at APD, telling her that she has been at his house for a month, and she can’t imagine Ed will have her back at the Deri; she says she will work more shifts, but Jim still wants rent.
Rachel is upset as she walks away from Macs at school; later Rhys says that he can’t keep his hands to himself, and if he has touched Rachel, Rhys will kill him! Raping pupils is his style, and Izzy should have reported him. Macs replies that Gaynor never went to the police, and then slept with him, more than once! At this, Rhys punches him and leaves him out cold on the floor. A cleaner finds Macs, and calls Gaynor (who is interrupted by Megan, phoning to see why she prevented Mark from having a day off to see the Queen, and she replies that she has not); Macs tells her Rhys has hit him, and that he has phoned the police.
Jim and Eileen meet Angela in the Deri; Eileen says she is not going to sit back and watch her fleece Jim, who has been more than reasonable. Either move out, or pay rent. Angela announces that she intends to move out by the end of the week, making sure that Ed can hear her.
Rhys comes home in a panic, begging Hywel to hit him, which the idiot does, so that when PC Leslie Thomas and her colleague arrive, he can claim that Macs hit him first, and he retaliated in self-defence. However, Macs denies that he laid a hand on Rhys; Gaynor has to report all this to the governors.
As Jim and Eileen are at the Deri, preparing to go to the cinema, Angela appears, tells them she has an extra shift and that they will have to look after Courtney; Eileen assures Courtney that they will all three go to the cinema, while Jim remonstrates outside with Angela that embarrassing Courtney in public is unforgivable, and that she thinks of no-one but herself. Mark at last tells the truth to Megan, but as she is being given the award for organising things, she will not let a suit beat her.
Wednesday 30 January 2013
As Macs leaves the house, Gaynor tells him he is suspended, and Garry overhears, so goes to Sion to tell him; he also tells Britt that he is planning something special for Sheryl - possibly a proposal? Angela confides to Debbie at the cafe that she thinks it is all over with Ed, but Debbie urges her to keep trying.
Gaynor tells Hywel and Rhys that Macs has been suspended, and so is Rhys, described as “an unruly pupil”. He blames her sleeping with Macs, and Hywel knowing about it; he says Macs enjoyed telling him — “You’re disgusting,” he tells them. When Sion sees Macs at home, he says he never touched Rhys; when Sion asks why there is all this goading from Hywel, Sioned tells him Macs slept with Gaynor - several times. Sion cannot sit back and do nothing, and Iolo says he did warn Macs that it would turn sour. Rhys tells his troubles to Ffion, blaming Macs, but when he phones Rachel, her dad tells him that her gran has died - that is why she was crying. Ffion is angry that Hywel told Rhys about Izzy’s “rape”. He reveals to Ffion that Macs was bragging about sleeping with Gaynor; Ffion says he has opened “a can of worms.”
Sion asks Gaynor whether the governors know about her and Macs; Hywel turns the blame on to Sion’s son, describing Macs as “rotten”. Sion will keep a close eye on the investigation. Gaynor questions why Macs phoned the police if he threw the first punch; an investigation could lead to the end of her career.
At the Deri, Angela brings Ed a present, recalling all the good times, but Ed again says that things were not working between them, he does not love her; it’s over and he wants to be free.
Ffion takes Rhys to see the governors; on the way there, Macs confronts him, and Iolo has to drag him away; when Hywel and Gaynor arrive he is he leaving the interview, and he will not reveal what he told them. Ffion will be taking him to his gran in Aber tomorrow, but Gaynor will have to wait and see what the governors decide.
Thursday 31 January 2013
Megan is expecting a parcel from her nephew — a suit for Mark, but the postman has nothing; Mark gives up, but Megan asks Cadno if he can borrow Eifion’s suit; then the truth about the compensation comes out, much to Megan’s dismay, and Mark admits everything. A surprise lunch for Sheryl has been organised at the Deri; Meic comments that her birthday is not until 1 February, and Garry realises that Kevin has tricked him. He tells him never to pull that stunt again, and Kevin asks what he will do — hit him, and says that the “new” Garry will not last.
Sion asks Jinx what he knows about Macs’ suspension; Jinx says if Rhys is anything like his dad, there is more to it. Ed confides to Hywel that he is feeling “all over the place” with the results due tomorrow, despite a text from Dani, saying she is thinking of him, but she is still unwell. A parcel arrives at the charity shop and Megan hurries to Mark with it; he says he doesn’t deserve to go, but Megan tells him to hurry, as they only have an hour. In the Deri Jinx tells Hywel that Sion has been on about Macs, and says he deserves it for what he did to Izzy. Gwyneth receives a letter from the bank, telling her the loan was written off in error, and she has to repay it; she does not know what to do.
Sheryl and Garry arrive at the posh hotel, where he has arranged a masseuse for her. She finds an expensive black dress on the bed, and when she goes down wearing it, he says, “Wow!” In front of other guests, Garry proposes to her, producing a ring; Sheryl does not say yes, but remains silent. Crestfallen and furious, he goes back upstairs, telling her, “I need a minute,” and vents his anger on the washbasin and smashes the furniture. He gathers their bags and persuades Sheryl to leave. The camera scans the wreckage of the hotel room . . .
