Friday 1 March 2013
At breakfast time, Sioned has another silent call. Diane visits Meic to thank him for listening to her. Garry goes to Sion’s to tell him the replacement car is ready, and warns Sion that he will not be looked down upon; “You owe me, so show some respect!” Dai is at the cash machine when he sees Diane coming out of Meic’s house, and she kisses him.
Later he asks Jim what he should do about Diane having an affair with Meic. In the Deri several people are giving up this Village Saint business – Dai has spoilt it for everyone. Sioned has a word with Gemma, telling her that it has happened again, and she feels scared when she is on her own; she asks Gemma to go shopping with her. Dai glares at Meic in the pub, and almost comes to blows with Colin when he is taunted.
The award ceremony has arrived, and Sion announces the village saint to be someone who has not entered the contest — Garry Monk! Garry wants to know what he is doing, and Sion replies they can both play games; Garry advises him not to try stunts like that too often. Meanwhile, Sioned’s door rattles and then some stones are thrown at the window; she rushes next door to the Deri and tells Gemma that she is so frightened, and that she cannot stay in that house alone. There is no evidence to report to the police.
Colin is still baiting Dai; “Sion saw through you,” he laughs, and Dai threatens him with a thump, when Diane walks in, asking what is going on. Dai says loudly he knows what is going on — his wife is having an affair with him, pointing at Meic. Diane is furious that he saw her coming out of Meic’s house and that leads him to make such an announcement in front of all the customers in the pub. She demands that he apologise and orders him out of the Deri.
Sioned slips back out to the house next door, has difficulty getting her key in the lock, hears footsteps behind her and — it’s Eifion again! She tells him she is moving out, but when he says that Cadno be glad to see her at Penrhewl, she reveals that she is going to stay with Gemma; he looks crestfallen as she shuts the door in his face.
Monday 4 March 2013
Sioned arrives at the salon, with her suitcase, when Dani returns, so she has to stay somewhere else. Sheryl tells Dani about Gethin; she rushes to the hospital and talks to him. The judging of the mythical greenest village is on Thursday: Megan enquires if the organisers have contacted anyone. Jim contacts a friend, Elfed, to play the part of Howard Gibbons, the imaginary judge.
Eifion is tired, but soon perks up when Sioned arrives, wanting to stay at the farm; he says she is always welcome, but Cadno is not so pleased, reckoning that Sioned is still crazy. She says she already has one baby, and doesn’t want someone who imagines stalkers and wants attention. Marian is away in Scotland.
Dani goes to see Moc, demanding to know what happened; he repeats that he has been framed, and says that Gethin went to see him to admit his allegations were all lies. Dani just accuses him of lying to save his own skin, and hopes that he gets everything he deserves.
Diane and Meic are chatting in the café, when Dai sees them; Meic say they were talking about Graham, but Dai still maintains Diane has a “dark secret”. Eifion quickly volunteers to take Sioned back to Macs’ to collect the rest of her belongings, assuring her that she is not a bad person and deserves support. Later, when she is preparing lunch, Eifion touches her arm and tells her to treat the place like home – while Cadno glowers at him.
Dani goes to the Deri and is disappointed to find that Ed is in Tenerife; Sheryl comes in and Dani wonders who would run Gethin down like that. Iolo arrives and she asks him the same thing, making him rather nervous; then Moc comes in, and Dani tells him she does not want to talk to him. “My life was a lot easier before you turned up – now it’s a mess. Do what you do best – disappear again!”
Tuesday 5 March 2013 (1st)
Dani is sitting by Gethin’s bedside, talking to him about their childhood, when Sheryl and Gwyneth come in; Dani is blaming herself for being away. “What if he never wakes up,” she says, and she has heard of people in a coma for years, when she notices his hand twitch.
Diane receives a phone call and leaves APD without saying where she is going; Dai and Jim follow her in the van, leaving Colin in charge, although he is supposed to be working at the shop. They see her going into a building, and when Dai sees the word “Solicitor” on the window, he is convinced she wants a divorce. Panicking, he says he is going to talk to her there and then, but Jim persuades him to return to APD, where they find that Colin has been selling everything at a discount, costing the firm a lot of money. Dai’s new glasses are a cause of laughter, with Jim saying that the optician must have been blind to sell him those. Just then, Dai has a phone call from Diane, wanting to see him, and fears the worst.
As Dani is just going to get a cup of tea, Gethin’s eyes open; Sheryl immediately phones Moc, who hurries to the hospital with Anita; she tries to persuade him to “tell the truth” about his father although he is not fully conscious. He calls Dani to him, and admits it was all lies about what Moc had done; he maintains that his father never touched him and that he had made it all up (which was what Moc had told him just before the accident). Dani is distraught, as she had believed his story, and leaves; meanwhile, Moc just looks cold and dispassionate, telling Gethin that there is no need to say sorry.
When Dai gets home, he starts going on about being sorry for accusing Diane of having an affair, but she silences him with the news that Graham left her £100,000 and a villa in Spain. Dai immediately starts working out what to do with the money — Caribbean cruise, red sports car — but she insists it is her money, and he is not getting a penny!
Tuesday 5 March 2013 (2nd)
Moc is still sitting with Gethin, and assures him that he is forgiven and they can start again. Anita arrives, and Moc urges her to let her blame of Gethin drop. Iolo is in the chip shop with Britt when Sheryl comes in to tell them about Gethin. Britt tells him they must not give anything away, but he asks what if Gethin remembers something; she snarls that he has to carry on as usual and keep quiet. Sheryl tells Garry that Gethin admitted his allegations were all lies; both of them are angry they have been involved, and Garry says that Gethin made a fool of him. When Sion passes the chip shop, Britt tells him about Gethin, but he says Iolo must face what he has done. Although Britt says that things are looking up, he reminds her that they are hiding the truth.
In the Deri, Dani is drinking; she apologises to Moc, but says she will never forgive Gethin for all the lies, both with his secret wife and child and now the abuse. She hopes he suffers for what he has done to her; he is not her brother any more.
Iolo goes to the hospital and learns that Gethin cannot remember anything of the accident; when he gets back to Sion’s, his father insists that he should do the right thing and take his punishment; Iolo is adamant that he cannot face prison, and Britt reminds them they hid the car, so they are all in it together. Sion urges him not to take the easy way out, but to face it like a man. Despite Britt’s warning that keeping quiet is the best option, Sion says that if Iolo will not own up, he will — his mind is made up!
Wednesday 6 March 2013
Eifion moves some of Sioned’s belongings into her room; she is still nervous, but Eifion, reassures her; then there is another silent call (Eifion is downstairs, smiling). Cadno returns from visiting Anti Meira and Eifion encourages her to take Bobi to see her, and stay overnight.
Megan is worried that the Green Village judge has not arrived; Dai reckons that Elfed is in a pub somewhere; when Megan wants the phone number, Jim gives her his number, and waits out the back of APD for the call. When she rings, he puts on a false voice, but Eileen hears him talking in the back yard, and the pair are caught redhanded. Megan is furious and Eileen shocked; they demand how much Dai has made from this scam.
Iolo is scared that his father will confess to driving the car; Britt tells him to pull himself together, and when she finds him about to go away for a few days, drags him back to her house. Cadno goes off with Bobi, and Eifion cooks supper for Sioned. During the meal he plies her with wine, and she reveals that she thought that she and Macs would be together forever; she hopes to have the perfect life that he and Cadno have one day. She is ashamed that money used to matter so much to her, but now she knows there are more important things.
A whole deputation of villagers descend on APD, find it closed, and go round to the back, where Dai and Jim are hiding, to demand their money back. Dai refuses, saying he is not obliged to do anything, but when Diane arrives, she has different ideas, although Megan suspects her of being in on the scam.
Britt shouts at Iolo that it is about time he grew up, he has no backbone and is pathetic; she warns him he is not going anywhere. Dai is forced to go to the Deri and publicly announce that he will refund any discontented customers. Diane gives £200 to the Maenan Appeal.
Sioned has had too much wine, and wants to dance to the music that is playing; when she falls backwards on to the sofa, Eifion lifts her up and kisses her; when he apologises, she replies, “I don’t mind.”
Thursday 7 March 2013
Sioned comes downstairs at Penrhewl, looking sheepish, and tries to talk to Eifion about what happened last night, but he evades the subject; she is visibly disturbed when Cadno returns to the farm. Sion is still adamant about going to the police, so Britt calls Garry, asking for help.
Gwyneth visit Gethin, telling him she wants him out of her house, but he replies, “At least, I haven’t murdered anyone,” to which she replies that no-one will believe him now. Moc insists that Dani should see Gethin again, and when she does, she tells him she never wants to see him again, after all the lies. He tells her he may never walk again, and asks her to imagine what is going on in his head; he is no good to anyone. She does not know whether to believe what he says. When Britt hurries to the garage, Garry tells her, “I have someone lined up.”
When Cadno goes upstairs to Bobi, Sioned seizes the chance to tell Eifion that she was drunk, and she regrets the whole thing, it was a mistake and will never happen again; he seems offhand about the matter, but does not want Cadno to find out.
After telling Iolo that if he will not take the blame, his father will, Sion arrives at the police station, and says he has information about the hit and run; the constable replies that they have arrested someone, and Sion is dumbfounded. He goes home and demands what has been going on, then Garry arrives, and at Sion’s insistence, reveals that John has confessed to the hit and run, which is a perfect alibi to a worse crime that he had really committed. Sion is enraged at this, and orders Garry out, but is warned that now that Sion’s mess has now been sorted out, if he steps out of line, Garry will be on his case.
Gwyneth tells Dani and Moc in the Deri that they will have to collect Gethin’s stuff, or it will be out in the street. Sioned tells Gemma that she has has another call, and they both wish they could find out who is responsible, but Sioned does not reveal what else has happened.
Monday 11 March 2013
Wil is off on a school trip to France. Ed is back from Tenerife and sees Angela, so he carries her shopping; she has done a 12-hour shift. He invites her back to the Deri, but she thinks it is only because of the baby; he tells her he has always loved her, and that she should come back this week.
Garry tells Britt he is afraid that Sheryl will want to be with Moc, now the lie that made them break up has been exposed. He thinks that last time they were together, she would not have refused to marry him. She tells him that only he can change things. Gwyneth is getting all Gethin’s things together, and finds more copies of the DVD showing her starting the fire. She hurries to the hospital and confronts him; he says there are no more copies. Moc goes to the salon for a haircut, flirting with her; he suggests to Sheryl that she is not happy with Garry, and that men like him can’t change; her answer makes him guess at therapy, and she pleads with him not to say anything.
Sioned is going out to Swansea with Gemma, she wears an orange dress, and when she says they will first go to the Deri, Eifion persuades Cadno to go too. When Garry gets home, he produces tickets to Rome while Wil is away; Sheryl looks apprehensive, but says she loves him. Moc and Anita dine at a posh restaurant, where he tells her she is the only woman who has ever understood him; later he presents her with an engagement ring and asks her to marry him; she is delighted.
At the Deri, Gemma has texted some boys to meet them in Swansea, but Sioned is not keen; left alone Eifion says she should not sell herself short. Angrily she replies, “My private life is not your business! Don’t judge me like that again!” Then Garry and Sheryl arrive, followed by Moc and Anita, who announce they are getting married in the summer; Garry looks at Sheryl, who forces a smile.
Tuesday 12 March 2013 (1st)
At the café, Dani says she will have to call Anita, “stepmother”; Kevin asks Anita if she has told Meic, while Moc arranges with Ed for a party on Thursday. Meic is far from happy about the engagement; he does not want Anita to get hurt, and describes Moc as a “creep”, although he says he is not jealous.
When Gemma finds Angela back with Ed, she is angry, and thinks the pregnancy is just a joke; she refers to Angela as “the black widow,” and tells Ed he will regret it. Moc is with Gethin at the hospital; he tells his son that he will look after him, and that he will be a good dad. Gethin replies that he is just trying to ease his conscience. Later Moc tells Anita how worried he is about Gethin, and eventually she agrees to him living with them when he gets out of hospital.
Gwyneth tells Garry that she wants to sell some of Gethin’s things, as he owes her so much, “he cost me a fortune”, and Garry realises that Gethin was blackmailing her; he has to know who killed Brandon. Off he goes to the hospital, where Gethin tells him he wanted him and Dani to suspect each other to keep them apart; he would hate to see his sister with Garry. Then Garry turns menacing: he tells Gethin he doesn’t know how much suffering he has caused, and promises that he has arranged for some lads to visit him in the middle of the night, when the nurse has been called away — “then you’ll suffer!” Garry recalls when he wanted to die, at eight years old, Gethin has no idea of what he went through. When he turns, he realises that Gwyneth and Sheryl have been listening; he hurries away, but Sheryl follows. He tells her that he has tried bottling it up and talking about it at Therapy, but neither do any good; now she will just feel sorry for him. Sheryl says she cannot do anything about what has happened, but he is still the same Garry.
All Anita’s things have been taken from Meic’s house, and Meic assures her that he is there for her; she leaves with Moc, and Meic looks close to tears.
Tuesday 12 March 2013 (2nd)
Angela announces to Mark that she is moving back to the Deri, much to his disappointment. Eifion presents Cadno with a present, a top, but she says she will change it for a more suitable colour; later he gives Sioned a blue top, too, to which she replies, “You know this is more than a present! I’m not going to be the one who ruins your girlfriend, baby and home!” He tells her he cannot stop thinking about her.
Angela goes to see Gemma at APD, telling her about the pregnancy; Gemma will not believe her, and they agree to do a pregnancy test that evening. When Angela reaches the Deri, she tells Ed that pregnancy makes you tired, and Dani, sitting nearby, is shocked; then Moc comes in, informing her of Gethin’s future living arrangements; “Gethin always comes first,” she says, and walks out.
Courtney tells Jim and Eileen the news, which makes Jim angry, but Courtney insists that keeping her Mum happy is the easiest course of action. Angela reveals to Ed than Gemma suspects that he is not the father.
Mark has cooked a meal, but Angela does not return, and the food goes to waste. Gemma talks to Ed about her distrust of Angela, then Angela performs the pregnancy test — result: positive. Gemma says she can understand why women like Angela go for men like Ed, but not why Ed should go for women like her.
Eileen goes to Penrhewl to discuss vegetable supplies, and Sioned asks if she can stay in the flat, but Eileen replies there is not enough room, although sensing there is something wrong.
Gemma tells Dani that she would do anything to see Ed with someone like her; Angela only uses Courtney to get her own way with Jim, and will do the same when the baby arrives to get what she wants with Ed.
Sioned has something in her eye; Eifion removes a hair, then smiles into her face and simpers, “You’re so pretty,” to which she replies, “Eifion, don’t!” She announces that she is thinking of moving out; Cadno agrees that the farm is not her style, but Eifion, as usual, says she can stay as long as she likes.
Wednesday 13 March 2013
Gwyneth learns from Garry that all Gethin’s identity documents are only worth about £30; he advises that she borrow money, using the details, but not to use her own computer; keep the details and dump the original documents, and offers her an address she can use. In the Deri, a large group of young people, including Macs (and the cast of Cwmderi After Dark) are drinking, and preparing to go clubbing in Swansea. Sheryl tells Gwyneth that Garry will talk to her about his past when he is ready. Dani, having drunk too much, is sick in the toilet; Garry checks she is all right and takes her home, assuring her that Ed is not worth it.
Ed is worried about Gemma going to Swansea with all the boys; Macs compliments Gaynor on her dress, and Hywel says he should be saving money as he might not have a job. Macs reminds her that Hywel lied throughout their relationship, and his son is the same — remember what he did to Lois. Moc talks to Sheryl, and she drunkenly flirts with him, which irritates Garry. Gwyneth asks Garry to come outside, and tells him she has found she can get £21,000 on the internet in Gethin’s name, and mentions Sheryl’s flirting. Garry returns to the Deri and confronts Moc about putting Gethin before Dani, calling Moc a “kept man”, and pushing Sheryl away when she asks him for a dance.
When Garry visits the toilet, Moc comes in, and is warned to stop sniffing around Sheryl; when Garry confronts Moc, he replies that he thought he only hit women, but adds that he is glad Garry is “getting help”, which incenses him. He rushes out of the pub, and when Sheryl follows him, he orders her back there, but she takes no notice.
Once in his flat, she complains about him treating her like dirt in front of everyone; he throws her across the kitchen, accusing her of telling Moc about the therapy and then flirting with him, then grabs her by the throat, choking her as he growls, “he just wants to sleep with you,” before releasing her and backing off, with a guilty look.
Thursday 14 March 2013
Sheryl, looking rather battered, is in her pyjamas when Wil rings from France; she cries. Garry eventually comes back, and she shouts at him that she was stupid enough to think he would change, and what if Wil had seen? Garry says their relationship has to end, and he will move out.
Anita is thinking about starting her own business, which gives Moc the opportunity to suggest she should admit to making the mistake about Gwyneth’s loan, so he could get his job back, and that would pay three times what she was earning. When she refuses, thinking he just wants someone to look after Gethin, he tells her to forget the idea; later in the Deri she asks what will happen if she admits the “mistake”; she may be sacked, then he should get his job back, and if not he will sue for wrongful dismissal. He says that Tomos ac Ellis have told him there is a buyer for his house, and says he is going to see them, but instead goes to see Sheryl, who shouts at him when he suggests she deserves better than Garry. “Garry’s not seeing another woman behind my back; Anita won’t be able to say that for long!”
Anita tells Dani that she has resigned from the bank, as she made a mistake involving a lot of money; Dani is not taken in – and enquires if that is why her father lost his job, and whether he will get it back.
Sheryl goes to the garage to tell Garry that they cannot leave things as they are; he has made progress, she says, as he is feeling so ashamed. He says that the therapist has said his problem is that he cannot trust anyone, as a result of his childhood. She tells him there are conditions – that he continues therapy, and that he does not shut her out. He replies that he wants to become the man she has faith in, but cannot promise.
When Anita tells Moc she has resigned, he feigns surprise, but she says this is all about what we want as a family; they won’t have to move out now, but she does want to look for a business tomorrow.
Monday 18 March 2013
Macs is worried about the hearing at 9.30am; meanwhile Hywel is telling Rhys to stick to his story, and everything will be all right. Rhys is having doubts, but Hywel says that to be nervous will make him look as if he is traumatised; they will believe him and Macs will be punished. At school the panel, headed by Gloria Davies, interview Gaynor first; she is accused of failing to deal with the situation, as Macs contacted the police, and is suspected of being biased. Rhys is outside in quite a state when Macs arrives with his union rep. Rhys then tells the panel that Macs had been behaving oddly towards him, then hit him for no reason.
Angela is collecting more things from Maes y Deri when she is suddenly doubled up in pain; she struggles to phone for an ambulance, but Mark arrives and drives her to the hospital. After some medical attention, the doctor says he is terribly sorry, but she has lost the baby; Mark tries to comfort her.
After his questioning, Rhys tells his father that he finds it hard to lie, just as Gaynor approaches. Macs is now being interviewed, and refers to the false allegation, as there were no witnesses, and he would never hit a pupil. Without witnesses there was insufficient evidence for the police to proceed with Rhys’ allegation, and he reminds them that he was the one who called the police.
After deliberation they call him back in and tell him they cannot ignore his record of violence. His suspension will continue, and they will recommend that his employment be terminated as soon as possible. He comes out and disconsolately walks past Hywel and Rhys; when he has gone, Hywel suggests celebrating, Rhys wants nothing to do with it, and Gaynor thinks that losing a teacher and having the school under investigation is not something to celebrate. She is then called back in, and expects “a lecture on how to run a school.”
Tuesday 19 March 2013
Jinx is in the Deri, showing off his baby photos; Macs comes in, buying everyone drinks. Dani sees Iolo and persuades him to accompany her to the Deri; when there, an already drunk Macs persuades Jinx and Iolo to go to “town” with him.
Angela is back from hospital, and tells Mark she was longing to be a mother; she wondered if she is being punished — perhaps they are not meant to have children. Mark drives her to the Deri, where she pleads with him not to say anything; once inside she is fussed over by Ed.
Rhys is depressed and sits on the bench outside APD; Ffion sees him and invites him to share her Shepherd’s Pie. She gets him to tell her everything, from the beginning, and the truth comes out, that he didn’t hit Macs, he was just doing his dad’s dirty work; when Ffion asks how he got the bruises, and he admits that Hywel hit him, she is incredulous. She immediately phones Jinx to come home and look after Arwen, so she can sort things out at Lwyncelyn. She tells Rhys that the lies will eat at him till the bitter end, and he will not be able to rest until he comes clean.
At Swansea, Macs is not keen to go home, but Jinx and Iolo persuade him, as he has drunk too much; however, on the way out, he sees Rachel, the pupil he was tutoring, and announces that he is not a teacher any more and she can call him “Macs”rather than “sir”. She tells Iolo that Macs is staying with her, flutters her eyelids at him and makes the most of her opportunity.
As Hywel and Gaynor are worrying about Rhys, he comes home, with Ffion, who says she is there to make sure an innocent teacher gets justice, revealing what really happened. Rhys admits that Macs never touched him, and when Gaynor asks Hywel if he was aware of it, Ffion shouts that it was his idea!
For once, Macs had not done anything wrong; Ffion also announces how Rhys got his bruises, administered by his father — when they have left, Gaynor will not listen to any explanation, but orders Hywel to the spare room.
For once, Macs had not done anything wrong; Ffion also announces how Rhys got his bruises, administered by his father — when they have left, Gaynor will not listen to any explanation, but orders Hywel to the spare room.
Macs and Rachel alight unsteadily from the taxi, and go into his house, kissing as the door closes.
Wednesday 20 March 2013
Gaynor is not speaking to Hywel; she goes to see Macs, but he is reluctant to let her in; she pushes past him, and is surprised when Rachel, wearing only one of Macs’ shirts, comes downstairs, and says, “Hiya, Miss.”
Gaynor asks her what she is doing there, and she replies, “What do you think?” Gaynor demands that Macs comes to see her at school, and after she has gone, Macs calls Rachel “a naughty girl.” She replies, “If I were a good girl, I wouldn’t be here.”
Ffion reassures Rhys that he has done the right thing, then Hywel arrives in an angry mood; he accuses Ffion of meddling in Rhys’s life, but she says he has ruined an innocent teacher’s life. When she goes to calm Arwen, Hywel tells Rhys he should have kept his mouth shut; they had tricked the school and police, but Rhys says he has a conscience.
At school, Macs insists he has done nothing wrong – he is not a teacher any more, but Gaynor tells him of the “new evidence” that has come to light. He asks when she wants him to come back, but it is not that simple any more; she cannot reinstate him, as he has been “sexually interfering with a pupil” and she does not want another scandal at the school.
When Gaynor gets home, she demands to know why Hywel set Macs up like this; at first he says he was protecting Rhys, then admits that it was revenge for his sleeping with Gaynor; this way he could get rid of Macs once and for all. Gaynor accuses him of sleeping with half of Cwmderi, and says he married her to tie her down until he could get his revenge. He says he wants to thump Macs every time he sees him, and calls Gaynor a “cold, hard woman.”
After pointedly telling him she slept with Macs twice — the night before the wedding, in their bed — she orders him to leave, ignoring his grovelling pleas for “one more chance”. As he leaves the house in the snow, she collapses to the floor, weeping.
Thursday 21 March 2013
Hywel and Rhys are staying with Jinx and Ffion; Jinx wants to know for how long, but Ffion says Hywel owns the flat. Rhys is angry that he cannot go near the school because of what his father persuaded him to do. He packs his bag and is going, by taxi and bus, to his grandmother’s in Aberystwyth; “At least, she won’t force me to tell lies,” he tells his father. Later he is leaving the café and sees Macs, who wants to know why Rhys accused him; “Ask him,” says Rhys, pointing to his father. Macs says, “Grandad can’t bear the fact that I slept with his wife.” Hywel replies, “You lost your job — job done!” Angela has taken Courtney to school, and Mark finds her sitting in the car, so tries to comfort her, and hugs her; Gaynor sees them, and later shouts at him about school rules, threatening an official warning.
Ffion is buying extra food at the shop, and Jinx tells Colin that Gaynor has thrown Hywel out, with Colin naturally assuming that he must be after another woman. Sion has heard from Iolo about Macs’ suspension, so goes to see him; at first Macs proposes going travelling, and wonders why Sion seems to favour Iolo over him, but then Sion reveals that Iolo knocked down Gethin, and Macs changes his mind. He is going to clear his name, as, unlike Iolo, he has done nothing wrong. When Gaynor gets home, in the snow, Colin is waiting for her; there must be a woman involved, he insists, and tells her she should not have married that toe-rag. Gaynor tells him to mind his own business and shows him the door. Colin, at the Deri, tells everyone about Hywel Llywelyn being “up to his old tricks.”
Macs visits Gaynor, and suggests she forgets seeing him with Rachel; if not, he will tell the disciplinary panel why Rhys punched him. He will explain that Hywel was stirring up trouble because Macs and Gaynor had a fling that went on for weeks; he thinks the panel would love to hear that — the head sleeping with a younger teacher. “Are you threatening me?” demands Gaynor.
“That is exactly what I’m doing,” he replies, “You’ve got until tomorrow to decide who talks to the panel, you or me.”
Friday 22 March 2013
Jinx is adamant he will not leave Arwen with Hywel, as he waits for Ffion to return from the school; now Rhys has turned his back on his father, Hywel wants to take over another child. When Ffion returns, he assures Hywel that unlike him, family is Jinx’s priority. Gaynor visits Macs to tell him she has informed the panel about the new evidence, and Macs should be reinstated, but she warns him to keep to his side of the bargain.
Patrolling the school, Mark finds Gaynor’s computer turned on, and an application form on the screen for a head teacher’s job in Denbighshire. Inevitably, she catches him looking at it; he accuses her of running away, and she tells him to close the door after him.
Macs sees Hywel in the street, and gleefully tells him his plot has failed, as his reinstatement is sure, and wishes him luck in finding a school place for his “thug” son. As Macs nears his front door he sees Rachel waiting outside, and hurries her in; she cannot stop thinking about him, but he tells her it was a mistake. She replies that he didn’t say that at the time, and adds that she knows exactly what she wants; despite telling her that he has been reinstated, after a kiss, he changes his mind and they start removing each other’s clothes.
Mark goes to Ffion’s flat to tell Hywel about Gaynor’s plans; Hywel rings Gaynor’s mobile, then landline, but she ignores both, so he goes round there. She tells him there is nothing left for her in Cwmderi, and she cannot wait to leave. Hywel again professes love for her, but she challenges him to go to North Wales with her, to which he hesitantly agrees.
When Mark gets home, he finds Angela there, looking for a locket she had lost; she reveals that is is not going to tell Ed of the miscarriage, but will get pregnant again as soon as she can, trying to deceive him, an idea which Mark describes as “crazy”.
Macs comes downstairs, buttoning his shirt, saying that Rachel has to go, and they must be more careful; she must study, and they must play safe. He looks outside, sees no-one about and kisses Rachel as she leaves. However, from just along the street, Sion sees what is happening . . .
Monday 25 March 2013
Macs is back at school and Rachel flirts with him; he tells her to stop it. Gaynor tells him Ffion will be assessing him in his lesson; after she does so, she only grades him as “satisfactory” as he was ignoring certain pupils, notably Rachel Mannings. Later he goes to her flat and accuses Ffion of undermining him, and she tells him to do a better job. When he tells her she is a good example of weaknesses and her life is a shambles, she points out that he shows more interest in flirting with pupils than teaching them. There was Izzy, and she feels sorry for his next victim.
Then he starts getting personal, asking her if she remembers sleeping with him while she was an alcoholic. She thinks it is a joke, until he recalls her falling in the bathroom and bruising her arm, and breaking the clasp on her chain, then she is scared , although he says he will not tell anyone. Jinx comes back, and after Macs leaves remarks that Macs is strange sometimes. Ffion replies that she prefers him, and asks that he never leave her; she wants to get married, as there is no point in waiting, and he agrees.
Sion tells Iolo that he is a failure as a father with all three sons, now that he has caught Macs being too friendly with a pupil. Iolo says he has a conscience of his own, and does not want another following him around, calling his father “a dark shadow, suffocating me.” Iolo says that Sion sounds more like a preacher every day.
In the café, Macs tells Rachel about Ffion marking him down; when he leaves he meets Sion who tells him what he saw, and Macs assures him nothing is going on. Rachel tells Sion that she has had a card from Huw, who is happy.
At the Deri, the news is out about the forthcoming wedding in five or six weeks; Ffion is making a list of people to invite: Val, Nesta, Cai and Jinx’s grandfather, but Jinx is not keen to see him. Gaynor remarks that they are arguing already — a perfect couple! Macs cynically proposes a toast “to the big day!”

Garry and Sheryl are talking about Wil needing outside interests, like football. Ed calls at the salon for a haircut, making Dani feel uncomfortable; after Sheryl has given him a trim, he finds Dani, telling her she is special, but the baby has changed things, and he kisses her. On his way out, Sheryl says that Dani has been through enough without being used by him, and to concentrate on Angela, leaving Dani alone. Afterwards, Dani tells her that she still feels the same about Ed — she wants him.
At the Deri, Cadno brings Angela the basket Bobi used to sleep in, Angela tries to look happy; Gemma arrives with Easter eggs, followed by Ed with some more, but Angela says she has gone off chocolate and Courtney will only eat Fair trade. Gemma says she will take them to APD; Dai and Jim will be like two hyenas with a pound of sausages. Courtney has put the baby’s scan picture in an album; Angela tries to dissuade her, then hurries off, to Mark’s, where she tells him she has made such a mess.
As Garry is working, a stray dog comes into the garage, and he chases it away; later it comes back, and he thinks it might be the solution for Wil, but Wil quickly develops an allergy to the creature, making Sheryl banish it from the flat. Angela tells Mark that everything is getting out of control, everyone talks of nothing but the baby, and it is now too late to tell the truth, but Mark says it is her only option
Garry calls at the salon, and the dog follows him in, with Dani immediately taking a liking to it. Although Sheryl will not have it in the salon, Dani gives it a home in the flat, where she tells it to be quiet; Sheryl smiles, as she sees Dani cheering up.

Moc tries to persuade Anita to visit Gethin, but she is too busy; when Moc goes alone, Gethin is sitting in a wheelchair, and manages to stand unsteadily – he may recover. Sheryl is getting tired of the dog (called “Woof-Woof” by Dani) in the salon; Dani takes it to the vet, finds it has no id chip, and buys a tartan lead: when Sheryl finds it has chewed electric cable, she orders it into the back room.
Britt wants the family to make home-made lemonade and spend Good Friday in the park; meanwhile Megan is in the Deri bemoaning the fact that there will be no Good Friday service at Bethania. When Sion comes in, she again begs him to lead the service, but again he declines, as he says he feels unworthy; just then Britt comes in with a big bag of lemons and announces they are going to the park, so Megan is rather put out.
When Sion gets home, Iolo tells him he ought to do what he would have done if the accident had never happened; Sion says that he is not the same person, and while Gethin’s life is in pieces, he will feel guilty.
In the Deri, Moc tells Dani that Gethin may be able to walk, but she is not interested; Iolo overhears the news and is very pleased, so goes home and tells Sion this is a new opportunity for him — he has not destroyed Gethin’s life and can start to forgive himself. Sion finds Megan putting a notice on the Chapel door, and tells her he will preach, after all.
Sheryl takes some photos of the dog with her phone, and later puts up posters, reading, “I’m lost – help me.” Anita warns Moc that Dani will not forgive Gethin easily— forgiveness has to be earned.
Sion has made the lemonade from Leighton’s recipe, but when Britt learns that he will not be at the family get-together in the park, but rather will be preaching at Bethania, she launches into another tirade, accusing him of neglecting his family to lord it in Bethania’s pulpit, showing off as a performer.
Thursday 28 March 2013
Dani sees a poster in the bus shelter and removes it; when she reaches the shop, there is another one, and Colin tells her that Sheryl has been putting them up.
Britt sarcastically tells Sion that the picnic has been cancelled and she will leave him in peace. Eifion is preparing a pen for the orphan lambs, and Sioned helps him; he takes a photo of her; later Cadno, who is going shopping in the village, says that they act as if she is not there, and Sioned smiles, wryly. Eifion says that he has self-control, and can stop himself fancying Sioned.
At APD, Sion sees Jim and asks the firm to donate paint to spruce up the vestry at Bethania, pointing out that it would be good publicity, with a write-up in CwmNi; he even wants Dai and Jim to help with the painting, hinting that CwmFM might interview them, as Jinx and Ffion are due to be married there.
Dani is spending all her time talking to the dog, now known as Rover while others are disparaging; Kevin says it has given Wil “the Lurgy”, and it is not coming into the café. Colin goes on about a place in Cornwall which pampers pets and their owners; Dani finds the place, Doggie Heaven, and enthuses about it, saying Rover deserves to be spoilt. Sheryl comes into the Deri to find Dani, who has missed two appointments at the Salon.
Britt has not forgiven Sion, especially when the picnic cannot be moved to Saturday, Sunday or Monday, when the work at the chapel is supposed to take place; she storms out, leaving him to iron his own shirt.
Back at the farm, Sioned and Eifion are in the barn again; he arranges her on straw bales in a somewhat provocative pose, takes another photo, then hears Cadno calling, back from the shops
Friday 29 March 2013
Eifion shows Sioned the picture of her in the barn, then Cadno sees it and reminds him there is work to be done. Later she asks Eifion to take Marian to the chapel, but he is too busy, so she will have to go; Sioned smiles.
Britt is still angry about Sion not putting the family first; the children are in fancy dress. Sion practises his sermon, and then is delivering it at Bethania; he talks about forgiveness and sacrifice, the need to be honest with ourselves, at which point Ffion and Macs exchange glances, and honesty makes things better, giving a clean slate. Britt leaves the children at the chip shop for a few minutes while she eavesdrops on the service, and Sion’s sermon apparently makes her think.
Sioned takes two cans out to the barn; when they have drunk them, she asks him if he wants anything else; he cannot keep his hands off and they kiss. When they return to the farm kitchen, somewhat dishevelled, he is all over her again, until they hear the car return, so they try to act normally. As Eifion goes to put the kettle on, he pinches Sioned’s bottom, and as soon as Cadno and Marian have gone upstairs, she rebukes him, but he says he can’t help it, to which she replies, “Try harder!”
Megan tells Sion it was a very good service, and invites him for a drink at the Deri later. Iolo is full of praise for his father, and Macs says that the sermon made him think. Iolo continues that we have to go through difficult times to reach better times, then we can move on. He hugs his father, as Britt, just going into the café, watches.
