October 2013

Tuesday 1 October 2013
Hywel gets Rachel to come round, and tells her that Rhys is on steroids;  he is deflated when she says he takes them once a week, and that he can work longer at the gym and be amazing on the rugby pitch.   When Rhys comes home and Rachel tells him, he is angry.
Dani tells Gemma that she hates Gwyneth but would never hurt Gwern;  if he is not told, someone will eventually put their foot in it.   Gemma then attempts to talk to Garry, and eventually corners him in the café.   She tells him that Gwyneth is paranoid, and that he knows Dani is great with Gwern;  she would never do anything to hurt him.   She reminds him that while Gwern is young, Garry can comfort him, but if he finds out the truth later, he will push people away, she knows that more than anyone;  Dani wants him to be happy, with no dirty secrets holding him back.
Meanwhile, Ricky and his friend are discussing Ricky’s plan for printing embarrassing T-shirts, that people will pay for to avoid others seeing them.   In the café, Ricky sees his chance as Garry bites into his doughnut, saying, “The hard man with cream on his chops!”   As he boasts about not being scared of him, Garry creeps up behind him, says, “You should be!” and puts cream all over Ricky’s face, with Gemma taking a photo of it.
Siôn is doing the vacuuming, then rings Britt, and leaves another message, begging to know that the children are all right.   When Hywel visits him about the steroid business, he reveals that Britt has gone, with the children, and later, when Gaynor calls, enquiring about Chester not being at school, she is told as well.   Siôn tries Britt’s number again, demanding she bring the children home, now!
At the Deri, Rhys is angry and bangs the table, which concerns Ed, who is told it is none of his business.   Gemma tries to sell Dai a necklace for Diane, draping it round his neck, and Ricky just happens to be passing, so gets another photo for a T-shirt.
When Garry goes to Dani’s flat she says she is not in the mood for any more shouting, but he admits he is there to apologise;  he should not have doubted her, but his head is all over the place with the court case, Britt and the children, and Gwyneth’s sentencing, which will change Gwern’s life.   Dani reveals that she understands why Gwyneth did it;  “The night of the fire, I hated you, I wanted to hurt you, to get rid of you forever.   But I wouldn’t have lit the match.   Nothing stays the same;  feelings change, and I’m glad you didn’t die.”
Garry is subdued, and says “I’d like to take you out on Friday night,” to which Dani replies, “I’d like that,”

Wednesday 2 October 2013
Debbie is serving in the café when Kevin comes in and tells her she is going to be pampered;  after a bath, he produces champagne and food before the “big surprise.”
Hywel wants a word with Rhys, who of course is not interested, but he does take notice when Hywel tells him he will tell the college he has a steroid problem;  he can be thrown out, and when Rhys says, “You wouldn’t dare!” his father replies, “Try me!   You have given me no choice.”   When Rhys emphasises that he does not care, Hywel reminds him he will have to find a job in order to pay back his loan, rent and steroids;  he cannot live there free when he is working, about £50 a  week is suggested.   He wants a decision by 5pm or he will phone Rhys’s tutor.
Mark and Colin are practising dancing in the Sunday School;  Ricky comes in, gives them tips and then snaps them as they cavort.
Debbie says she cannot eat when she is nervous, so Kevin asks her to put his ring back on, now his hand has healed;  this can be a new start to their marriage.
Debbie, however, tells him she cannot do that, as he gives her the creeps;  having him touch her makes her feel sick and dirty.   That ring reminds her she married a rapist, and she maintains that she gave all she had for him. and he went and raped Sheryl.   She says she cannot forgive him, despite his protestations that they can “fix things”;  when he asks for a chance to prove he can make her happy, she tells him not to touch her, but simply to go.   He sits on the stairs, distraught.
When Mark and Colin see the T-shirts Ricky has made, they think it is great publicity, to sell to their fans;  Colin has already had his hair done by Sheryl.   Rhys capitulates and tells Hywel he will stop taking steroids, but only because he has been forced into it;  he will get a good job and make enough money to move far away from his father.
Debbie pours away her champagne and takes off the expensive eternity ring.

Thursday 3 October 2013
Kevin, after drinking four cans and spending the night on the sofa, takes off his ring;  when Debbie comes in, he leaves.   Angela comes to see Debbie, and is told what she said to Kevin last night and that it is bound to lead to a divorce;  Angela advises that she must persuade him she did not mean it, or she will come out of this marriage “totally skint!”
Jinx is off to interview the challenge contestants, and Ffion unveils her business plan – wind-chimes made out of cutlery;  at APD, Colin asks Jinx for airtime for “Dim o’r Uchod”, Jinx mentions copyright, so Colin decides they must write their own songs.
Siôn has written a letter of resignation as the chapel leader;  Megan is upset by this, and Meic agrees to accompany her when she visits Siôn.
Debbie starts her plan, apologising profusely for what she said, but Kevin tells her that he has made her suffer enough, and he will start divorce proceedings;  he will not change his mind, despite her objections.   If she cannot bear to be near him, she cannot be his wife;  if she were going to forgive him, she would have done so by now.
When Ffion gets home, Jinx tells her that Madge is making tea-cosies, Mal is making hooks for fly fishing, and he has made a tinsel Christmas Tree;  Ffion boasts that she sold her wind-chime for £10 to the Art Teacher, and has orders for two more, then she turns and knocks Jinx’s tree off the table, bending it.   She agrees to buy it from him, although it is “really wonky.”   Then Colin arrives, trying to get more publicity for the duo, and gets short shrift from Jinx.
Megan and Meic visit Siôn, who is adamant that he must resign;  the chapel does not want a hypocrite at the helm, and he has no energy to carry on, with the court case and the prospect of prison.   Meic persuades him to wait until the court case and then make the decision.
Later Kevin tells Meic that they are getting divorced;  Meic tells him to get a solicitor and “look after number one,” but Kevin tells him, “Debbie doesn’t care about money.   I’ve broken her heart and messed up her life.”
Meanwhile Angela is telling Debbie it is her own fault for saying what she did;  Debbie fears that all she will get for her trouble is “peanuts.”   She wants compensation for a ruined life, so Angela recommends a good solicitor.   Debbie vows, “I won’t walk away from this marriage empty-handed – no way!”

Friday 4 October 2013
Meic encourages Kevin and Debbie to sort it out without solicitors’ fees;  Kevin admits it is all his fault and will give her a £5000 settlement, which astounds Meic.
Gwyneth tells Eifion that Cadno will contact him when she is ready.    Gwyneth sees Dani outside the Deri in the sunshine, and warns her that Garry will keep Gwern away from her;  just then Garry comes out and sits with Dani, assuring Gwyneth, “Dani is all right.”   Then DS Davies arrives to inform her that there is insufficient evidence to charge Gethin, unless she has more information;  if she helps them, they will see that the judge is made aware of it.
Debbie is on the phone, boasting of how the café would have closed without her slaving, but is told that she has no case.
The police visit Gethin to tell him the charge has been dropped, but the file will remain open;  Gethin has a business, selling on cakes made by pensioners in Maes Glas.
Gwyneth is panicking that she has no more evidence against Gethin;  she has another rant at Garry, then Gethin walks into the Deri and she lays into him, too.   Outside, Dani gives Garry a present – one of Ricky’s T-shirts with her picture on it.
When Gwyneth gets home, she tells Eifion that she needs someone to say she was not thinking straight, and thinks of Yvonne;  she leaves a phone message, “I need a letter stating that I was mentally ill when I started the fire.   I’m depending on you to keep me out of prison.”   After she receives a text that Yvonne does not want to know, Gwyneth tells DS Davies that she wants to change her plea to “Not Guilty”, as she was ill at the time of the fire;  he says she must speak to her solicitor, but cannot see how she can escape prison.   She tells Eifion that no-one but her should look after Gwern.
In the café, Colin suggests constructing “bespoke doorstops.”   Debbie reports to Angela that her solicitor says she has no chance, so Angela’s response is tell her to bargain for more money.   When Debbie tries that, Kevin orders Meic downstairs when he says she does not deserve a penny, then Debbie goes on about how hard she has tried, and Kevin hopes they can come to an understanding;  Debbie replies, “£5000 is not a fortune these days – I’m sure you can do better than that.”
Garry and Dani agree to have a day out together;  it is possible he will be in prison for a few months, if the judge knows the history of the Monks, but he can handle that, if he knows Dani is waiting for him, when he comes out.

 Monday 7 October 2013
Gwyneth is angry when she finds Dani babysitting Gwern in Garry’s flat;  she comes up with the usual accusations, then takes Gwern home, telling him, “Dani’s a bad woman!”   Garry sees her outside in the street, and reminds her Dani has done nothing wrong.   Back home he tells Dani he would not blame her if she wanted nothing more to do with him.
Meanwhile Gwyneth is telling Sheryl that she will have to do something soon to stop Dani;  “She thinks she has the upper hand, but I’ll show her!   I have to stop her, and soon!”   Garry tells Dani that he is worried about Gwyneth being paranoid;  she must be handled carefully, and he thinks it is better for Gwern if she does go to prison.
At Angela’s, where the word “CWTCH” on the kitchen wall is being painted over, Debbie is complaining that £5,000 is not enough, but Angela says as Kevin wants to be fair, she should get more, and Debbie wants to stay one step ahead.   Debbie works out that £10,000 would be £192 per week for a year, but what she really wants is the café, and a job for life.   Angela reckons that £20,000 would not be unreasonable.   Debbie concludes the longer she can make the marriage last, the more chance she has of getting the café
Jim is talking about a wedding, but Eileen says there is no hurry;  later he mentions to Angela about “a wedding next month,” which infuriates her, so she has another row with Eileen, who tells her she is happy with Jim, and all Angela wants is revenge.   Eileen says that Angela is not asking her to cancel the wedding, she is telling her.   She then informs Jim that she would rather have a summer wedding, but assures him she is not getting “cold feet.”
Gwyneth says the only person she can trust is Sheryl, so gets her to agree to look after Gwern;  she could move into Gwyneth’s house to get away from Meic.   When Garry goes to see Gwyneth, he takes Dani, which angers Gwyneth;  she says she has arranged for Sheryl to look after Gwern, Garry suggests Dani would be more suitable.   After Dani leaves, Garry says that Neil and Gloria in Newcastle would be ideal foster-parents for Gwern, as he knows them, and is going up there that evening, but Gwyneth wants to go next week.   Later she confides to Sheryl that at least in Newcastle, Gwern would be a long way away from Dani;  “As Garry is going tonight, madam will be on her own – we’ll see how well she copes!” she threatens.

Tuesday 8 October 2013
At the farm, Gwyneth is sounding off at Eifion again, saying she will get the truth out of Dani.   In Newcastle, Gloria has a phone call from Garry, saying he will be there in half an hour;  Britt hurries the children off to the park.   Garry comes in and explains the situation, hoping that Gloria will agree to look after Gwern, if he is sent to prison;  he also mentions that Britt is still missing, and says he will take Gloria to lunch later.
In the café, Dani tells Gwyneth that Garry has arrived in Newcastle, but again is told it is none of her business.   Meic warns Kevin that Debbie thinks he is going to give her more than £5,000.   Gwyneth arrives at the manicure appointment with Dani, under the false name of Edwina Jenkins;  once more she threatens Dani:  “I want you out of this valley and out of Gwern’s life.   I have no idea how long I’ll be away, worrying about who’s taking care of him.”   Dani replies that if Garry wants her to help, she will.
Kevin tells Debbie that he cannot afford more than £5,000, and is surprised when she changes tack and thinks they ought to try again to save the marriage;  he says, “I thought a wad of cash and your freedom were all you were after.”   Later, Meic warns him that she has realised she will not get more than £5,000, that is why she wants to “try again”;  Meic’s advice is, “Show her the door!”   Kevin suggests to Debbie that they take it slowly, with her moving back to Mark’s at the end of the week, and they will try to “rekindle the flame;”  she is doubtful, but agrees.
Britt and the children are back, and inevitably Garry returns and finds them there;  he is very hurt that she hid from him, and tells her that Siôn is making himself ill, and that she has broken her bail conditions, so she is sure to go to prison.   He makes her text Siôn to say, “We’re OK,” but she will not answer the phone when he, with his whiskers even more unkempt, calls back.   When Garry says that the Monks do not run away, they fight, she says she cannot fight Social Services, and reminds him that he ran away with Gwern for weeks.   He says that Gwyneth is paranoid and going off the rails;  her hatred for Dani scares him.   Britt is unmoved, saying that his attempts to get her home will not work.   He also tells Gloria that now she has harboured Britt, he no longer trusts her, and will not entrust Gwern to her care.   Britt refuses to go back with him, so he goes alone.
Back at the farm, Gwyneth is even angrier and tells Eifion she felt like throttling Dani;  she should have beaten her up.   Eifion regrets he did not fight harder to keep Cadno and the children.

Wednesday 9 October 2013
There is a rugby game against Llanarthur tonight, with Dai acting as coach in Hywel’s absence;  Jim tells him the wedding is postponed until summer.
Garry is back and tells Gwyneth he does not want Gwern to go to Newcastle, as he will not get the care he needs;  Gwyneth protests that he does not want his son away from Dani.   “You’re putting her before Gwern,” she rages, but he insists Dani is not a threat.   She goes to Penrhewl and tells Eifion that Garry is controlling her again, and that she cannot leave things to chance — “I have to sort her out – get rid of her!”   She needs a permanent solution, to arrange a nasty accident;  the only way is to kill her.   Eifion is stunned and tries to reason with her.   She has tried everything else and has no choice;  she knows someone who knows a man who would do the job.   Eifion asks if it is worth it for a couple of years;  if she kills Dani, she will never get out of prison.
Rachel has come back to watch Rhys play, and flirts with Ed at the bar, to Sioned’s annoyance;  she praises his fitness.
At APD, Dai wishes he had a son, and tells Jim to get a move on if he wants more children.   When he tells Eileen, she dissuades him, pointing out the possible problems.   He recalls what Angela had said – that if they had a child, Courtney would be its sister and aunt, and they agree “No children,” but possibly a vasectomy.
At the game, Dai gives a pep talk to the players, but they lose the match, with Rhys on poor form, so Rachel transfers her allegiance to Ed, who played well.   Dai says the Cwrtmynach Morris Dancers could have done better.   Sioned tells Rachel to stop flirting with Ed, but Rachel replies, “I have that effect on men.”   Sioned warns her to stay out of her way or she will need plastic surgery.
Gwyneth is talking on the phone in English:  “I need to shut someone up – for good, as soon as possible;  can you do that?   It is up to you how you do it, just tell me if we’ve got a deal.”   She will give the necessary £2,000 cash to Hopkins, and the hit-man can collect it as soon as the job is done.
Just then Garry brings Gwern home, and Gwyneth has another go at him, trying to make him leave Dani.   He again tries to convince her that Dani is all right;  “She’ll never take your place,” he says.
Gwyneth’s chilling reply is, “You’re right – she won’t!”

Thursday 10 October 2013
Siôn is at a very low ebb in the Deri, and Iolo cannot cheer him.   Rhys rings Rachel and leaves a message;  he is short with Dai who asks about his poor performance at rugby.   He later tells Dai he has stopped taking the steroids, or he may lose his place at Uni, and hands them to Dai.
Ffion and Jinx are working at their ideas for the challenge;  Ffion has e-mailed her business plan to the judges.   Meanwhile the panel are impressed with the entries, with Colin’s the only one to make a loss;  Ricky comes in with his figures, followed by Gethin with some of Marian’s cakes.   Jim feels uncomfortable with Eileen’s graphic descriptions of the vasectomy process, which puts him off his breakfast, and Dai’s comments later do not improve matters.
Ffion and Jinx arrive at the converted bank for the judges’ verdict, which CwmFM is carrying live;  Meic announces, “Fourth, Ffion;  third, Gemma;  second, Dani and first, Ricky with his T-shirts,” (although he cannot go through to the next round, as he is still at school, about which he is not happy).   They have to take the next-placed contestant instead, Gethin;  Ffion withdraws, as she only entered to beat Jinx.
Jim talks to Dai about keeping sperm frozen as an insurance policy, “Between the fish fingers and arctic rolls in the shop freezer,” suggests Dai.   At home, Iolo warns Siôn that he cannot lose translation work or he will be in trouble, but Siôn says he is in trouble already, with Britt facing prison, and possibly him as well.   Britt is not coming back, he will have to face it;  “Everyone turns their backs on me in the end.”
Dai tells Diane that their star player has stopped taking steroids, and some others have followed suit;  Diane cannot believe it, but Dai argues that everyone else does it.   When she sees the bag of tablets, she tells him to get rid of them before the council finds out.   Jim tells Eileen that the vasectomy idea is a good one, but when they see Dai in the Deri, he talks to Eileen about, “Jim getting over the op.”
Iolo is dismissive about Gethin’s business idea;  “It takes an honest person to run a business,” he says, but Gethin reckons he is bouncing back.
Rhys tries again to contact Rachel, who seems to be ignoring him;   Meanwhile on the rugby pitch, Dai is encouraging the players to forget last night’s defeat and focus on the next game, against Glyn-maen.   Energy and strength are important, they are not “a bunch of ballerinas”;  if energy drinks are not enough, they should try something stronger.
Iolo says to Eifion, “Did he suggest taking illegal substances?”   Eifion replies, “So it seems,” and sidles over to have a word with big Gerwyn.

Friday 11 October 2013
In the café, Ricky tells Gethin there is no profit in cakes;  the producers may simply sell direct.   This gives Gethin an idea, and he asks Ricky if he would be interested in making some money.
Siôn is sitting in front of his computer when Britt arrives, and says she is staying;  he is overjoyed to see her, and she has taken the children to school and been to the police, who renewed her bail.   Siôn says the Monks and their foster-parents have closed ranks, but Britt confesses she cannot cope;  Gaynor visits, complaining about Chester returning to school with no notification, but Siôn gets rid of her.
Sheryl is moving out to Gwyneth’s and asks Meic if he will ensure Dani’s business does not get chosen, as the salon is feeling the pinch.
Meic wants to change the café shifts now that Debbie is moving out;  she tells Kevin that she does not want to move back to Mark’s, so Kevin suggests getting a flat instead.
Megan infiltrates herself on to the judging panel, then when Gemma is approved by the others, she disagrees, on financial grounds.   While Dani is waiting for her turn, Sheryl warns her to stay away from Gwern.   Then she goes before the judges and impresses all but Meic, who is overruled, and she too is welcomed to the enterprise.
Finally, Gethin plies the judges with cakes, and then agrees that he would not be able to get a licence for the project, and calls it, “Totally bonkers!”   Meic asks why he is wasting their time, and he reveals he has purchased Ricky’s business, which will be expanded to supply printed shirts to schools and clubs, as well as printed mugs.   Assuring them he will not let them down, and should be employing two people shortly, he is also accepted.   Sheryl is angry when she hears that Dani has won, and Dani is shocked when Gethin comes into the Deri, also celebrating.
Kevin has found a suitable flat online, but concludes that as Debbie cannot stand him, there is no point in trying any more;  he simply tells her to take the money and leave, but she responds, “I want the café!   You’ve no right to be free – you confessed to me that you raped Sheryl.   Give me the café, or I will tell everyone the truth.   The café or your freedom?” and she wants the answer by next week.

Monday 14 October 2013
Garry is in a suit and tie;  he tells Dani he is not positive, but if he goes down it will be his first time, and will be out soon, unlike Gwyneth.   Meanwhile, Gwyneth is speaking in English on her phone, “Yes, tonight – it’s got to be tonight;  stick to the arrangement!”   Megan calls to give her support, but Gwyneth says she could be facing life.   Sheryl arrives to look after Gwern, and Gwyneth leaves for court, first hugging Gwern.   Iolo is looking after the children while Britt and Siôn are in court, and says, “See you tonight,” to his father.
Gemma and Gethin, with box of printed mugs, arrive at their business units, with Gethin trying to ensure Dani, who is at court, gets a good position;  Ricky drops in to tell Gethin he has had a couple of ideas.
Gwyneth is in the dock;  the judge tells her that the emotional pressure was no excuse for the fire.   She is a loving mother, and a prison sentence will harm her son, but the victim’s loved ones need justice;  to underline the seriousness of the crime, she is sentenced to three years, but as she had pleaded guilty, that will be reduced to two.   In the public gallery, Dani jumps up and shouts, “Two years for killing Brandon?   That’s not fair!”   As Gwyneth is led down, she says she has to make a phone call, but is refused until she reaches the prison.
Sheryl is amazed at the sentence, and Megan says she will probably be out in a year.   Meanwhile, Siôn is in the dock, where the judge calls him a highly respected member of the community and chapel who has undermined the legal system by perverting the course of justice;  he has pleaded guilty and shown remorse, so his sentence is twelve weeks, suspended for six months.   Garry’s turn is next;  the judge finds it hard to understand his motive, as his brother was the victim.   He also had pleaded guilty, so received the same sentence as Siôn.
Meanwhile in the prison, Gwyneth is desperate to borrow a phone, but no-one wants to help.   When Garry gets back to the Deri, Dani says she was sure he would be sent to prison;  then Gethin comes in and says he has been standing up for her at the business units.   Dani is disappointed that Gwyneth only got two years;  they go back to Dani’s flat, where Garry says that Gwern needs his mother, but Dani cannot forgive her.   “The important thing is that you and I are here, together,” she says, leading him towards the bedroom.
Siôn is back home, and he and Iolo try to convince Britt to plead guilty to avoid a prison sentence;  Siôn says she must show remorse, and eventually she agrees.
Later, at 3.20am, a car arrives in the dark street, a bald man gets out, puts up his hood and walks along the street;  his iPhone, left on the dashboard, buzzes and shows a message, from 07739-418564, saying, “CANCEL THE ORDER.”
Dani and Garry are asleep in bed;  she gets up and goes to the kitchen;  suddenly in the darkness, someone attacks Garry, stabbing him.   He shouts for Dani, and the assailant rushes past her, out of the flat.   As Dani finds him bleeding profusely, she screams for Gemma to ring for an ambulance.

Tuesday 15 October 2013
Garry is back from the hospital, but still in pain – the skin was slashed over his ribs;  he tells Dani that someone was out to kill her.   Gwyneth did not want him killed, but Dani was the target, although the police have said Gwyneth had no access to a phone;  so this was arranged in advance.   Various rumours around the village blame gangs from Newcastle or Swansea, but Jim says, “It doesn’t smell right.”   Britt tells Siôn that she is sure that Garry knows who did this, so they go to see him;  he is convinced that Gwyneth organised the hit.
When Sioned takes Ed to see Marian at Penrhewl, where she calls him, “Edward;”  they talk about the attack, and Eifion looks sheepish.   Marian has made lots of cakes, and afterwards is busy, washing up, as Sioned and Ed leave.
As Dani changes Garry’s dressing, he says he wants her staying in his flat as it will be safer, so she goes and collects Gwern and his belongings from Sheryl.   Garry says that Gwyneth was paranoid, and the attacker did not finish the job when he realised he had the wrong person.   Sheryl is not keen to give Gwern to Dani.
Jim has arranged to have a sperm sample frozen without telling Eileen;  instead he has told her he is going for a pre-op check, but Dai tells him she will never find out.   Sioned confides in Eileen that she thinks Marian is doing too much at her age, and that Eifion is not interested.   Meanwhile, Eifion shouts at Marian when she cannot remember where his rugby shirt is.
Siôn says that Britt has not a shred of evidence that Gwyneth set up the hit, but Britt knows better than that.   “She killed Brandon, and now she’s tried to kill Garry – I’m going to prove it!”   She goes round to Sheryl, going on about how she wants to make up with Gwyneth, have a proper chat and “put it all behind us;”  she persuades Sheryl to let her visit the prison in her place on Friday.
Back home, Britt tells Garry that she is going to get the truth out of Gwyneth, but Garry insists, “I have to sort out Gwyneth myself.”
After the rugby match, everyone is in the Deri;  Rachel is very offhand towards Rhys, although it is his birthday, but flirting outrageously with Ed, the star of the team.   “Only because he takes steroids and I don’t!” shouts Rhys, and several people hear, including Jinx.   Rachel tells Rhys to, “Grow up, you idiot!” and stalks off.   When Jinx asks Dai about the use of steroids, he denies all knowledge.

Wednesday 16 October 2013
As Meic is sorting out the café VAT returns, Kevin admits there is no future for his marriage, and reveals that Debbie wants his share of the café;  Meic is incensed by this, and urges Kevin to stand up to her, and not be “a doormat.”   Downstairs she tells Angela she is running out of patience, and must have an answer today;  Kevin is listening from the kitchen.
Jinx is making phone calls and speaking to people about the steroid rumours, which would make a scoop for CwmFM.   He talks to Ed and Rhys, both of whom claim to know nothing;  he finds it strange that everyone has amnesia about last night.   At the café, Rachel is suffering after drinking last night and not returning to the college.
In the café flat, Debbie confronts Kevin;  “I don’t want to hear any more – you know what you have to do.   £5,000 is not enough – I want the café, nothing less, or I go to the cops!”  When Kevin tells Meic, he is assured that if they put their heads together, they will find the answer.   Meic tells Debbie, “You treat him like dirt,” but she replies that she deserves something, so Kevin offers £6,000 and says he will see the solicitor about the café;  she will give him a week, and no more.
Rachel presents Rhys with his birthday present, one of Gethin’s mugs, but behaves very coldly towards him.   She talks about finding new friends at college, and they should stop seeing each other, but he does not realise what she is implying;  Gaynor, however, is pleased at this development.   Rhys still is under the impression they are happy with each other.
As Ffion peels the potatoes, Jinx is sure there is something going on, with no-one remembering anything, but Ffion says it sounds like conspiracy theory;  he will never find proof, as they will all stick together.
Debbie tells Angela the latest news, that she has given him a week, and fancies a short holiday somewhere exotic;  they go off to find some brochures, with Meic’s comment, “The sooner we get rid of you, the better!”   Then he makes the rather superfluous comment to Kevin, “I can’t stand her!”

Thursday 17 October 2013
Debbie is searching for an expensive foreign holiday, and reminds Kevin she has only given him a week;  he tells Meic, who hopes she will go somewhere for ever.   She tells Angela all about the five-star hotel, and says that Kevin and Meic are making her feel as if she is being unreasonable.   Meic is furious when he learns that Kevin has raised to £6,000 the amount he is giving her;  he knew that this would happen, and has never known anyone so greedy.   Kevin lamely says he will sort it out, and later learns that she is going to Dubai.   He tells his father that she may come to her senses out there and change her tune.
Eifion shouts at Marian for forgetting to tell him the feed delivery was coming, and orders her to write everything down.   Sioned has a word with Angela about Marian, but is told that it is good that she is keeping busy.   Sioned then rings the farm and drops in, insisting on doing the ironing, to give Marian a rest;  Eifion is oblivious to all Marian’s housework.   After Marian has gone for a lie down, Eifion enquires about Jinx’s “sniffing round for a story” about steroids, and reveals that he has been taking them for a week, as Dai says he is not performing well enough.   Sioned becomes suspicious, as she knows that they can cause mood swings and violence;  she also thinks Eifion has something to do with the attack on Garry.
When Angela visits the café again, Debbie invites her to come along on the holiday, as Kevin is paying for it;  Courtney can stay with Jim, and Angela can reschedule her appointments.
Kevin confides to his father that the café is the only thing he has left;  when Debbie announces that she and Angela are going to Dubai on Kevin’s money, Meic is furious.   “This isn’t right!” he says, and then Debbie says that the flight leaves at 6am tomorrow, and she wants a taxi to Gatwick.   After first refusing, Meic has to agree, to save Kevin from the long, exhausting journey.
When they have gone, Meic tries to assure Kevin that they will get through it;  when they see the lawyer next week, things will get better, but Kevin is not convinced.

Friday 18 October 2013
Siôn is busy with translation work, so Britt says she will go shopping in Swansea;  he asks her to pick up a dictionary he has ordered.   Britt calls at the shop for a drink and sandwiches, saying she has a long journey.   Jim has his “pre-op check” at 12:30, and Dai goes with him, after telling Diane they are pricing a “big job.”   In the waiting room, Dai urges Jim to relax, then “James Probert” is called;  when he returns, he tells Dai that when they tested his sample, they found he is “shooting blanks.”   Dai responds that he has saved himself some money, not needing a vasectomy, but Jim is worried about what to tell Eileen, so Dai advises him to tell the truth.
Siôn tries to phone Britt, leaving a message that he wants her to buy something else.   Shortly afterwards in the shop, Eileen tells him that Britt was going on a “long journey,” and later phones her again, saying that he knows she is not in Swansea, and asking what is going on.
Jim haltingly explains to Eileen that he really went to freeze his sperm as a sort of insurance policy, but assures her that she is the only thing he is sure about.   However, when he went through “the process” they found him “completely infertile” and Eileen wonders when this happened;  he says it must be something recent, as he is Courtney’s father.   He tells Dai that it went better than expected, but Dai has been wondering when Jim became infertile;  perhaps it was something to do with their work.
In the prison, Gwyneth is surprised to see Britt waiting when she expected Sheryl and Gwern;  she is angry, but Britt coldly accuses her of planning the hit on Garry.   Despite Gwyneth’s insistence that the police were happy she had nothing to do with it, Britt knows that she organised it;  when told that Dani was not hurt, as she was in the toilet, Gwyneth is careful not to look disappointed.   Britt asks why the attack happened on the night of her trial, and ominously warns her that she is not going to kill Britt’s other brother;  “I will make you regret going near Garry!”   Gwyneth wonders how she will do that;  “I’m safe in here, and you’re outside,” and as she goes back to her cell, Britt snarls, “This isn’t over, by a long chalk!”
When Britt arrives home, she admits that she has in fact been to Gloucestershire, and says she had to go.   When Siôn tells her that Garry does not think that it was Gwyneth who ordered the hit, Britt insists that she knows it was;  she says, “I know her better than anyone;  I’ll prove that she did it!   It’s the truth – I’ve tried to ignore it, but you can’t change my mind.”

Monday 21 October 2013
At APD, Dai tells Jim it is Diane’s 60th birthday on Wednesday, and she wants no fuss;  he also tells him not to be ashamed of “shooting blanks.”   Dai looks online and finds many causes for infertility – overweight, liver or kidney disease, steroids, too much exercise (though that would not apply to Jim) and poisons in the building industry, which makes him panic.   Later he mentions, smoking, stress and hot baths, also saying some people are born infertile, which makes Jim think, as he looks across the road at Courtney.
At the café, Debbie and Angela return from Dubai, much to Meic’s annoyance;  Kevin is hoping that Debbie has had a change of heart, but she assures him that is not the case.   So, after consulting with Meic, he tells her she is not getting his share of the café, and he is not giving in to blackmail;  if he gives her that, there will be many other demands.   She threatens going to the police, but Meic asks what if they knew she was alleging this simply to get her hands on the café?   They would think she was scum, and so would everyone else – and how would this affect Ricky?   Kevin concludes, “If you think you can steal my livelihood, think again!”
Gemma has been having trouble sleeping in the flat, after the attack;  Garry agrees to get the locks changed, but when he returns from APD with Jim, Ed has already made a start on the locks.   Sheryl flatly refuses to have a security grille fitted, and eventually, Gemma agrees to go back to the Deri, temporarily.   Garry is then worried about Dani being alone, so suggests moving in with her;  she thinks it much more sensible if she moves in with him and Gwern, an idea which pleases Garry immensely.
Debbie tells Angela that with all the £6,000 gone, she is “skint”, so in order to get the café, she will get rumours about Kevin circulating, that she is going to the police;  she tells Megan that she has a problem, that Kevin has just admitted to her that he did rape Sheryl, and should she tell the police.   Megan says she should, and immediately goes to see Meic about it;  he has to tell her the full story of the blackmail, as Debbie will not get much from the divorce.   Kevin is very worried when he finds out that the bluff did not work, and despite Meic reckoning she was only “making him sweat,” Kevin says he does not want to get “stitched up” by the cops again.
“It’s a nightmare,” he says, “She won’t stop until she has the café and has destroyed my life!”

Tuesday 22 October 2013
Rhys goes into Rachel’s room in college, and finds her with Gav;  she tells him that she wanted to finish with him last week, they have grown apart and she has new friends.
Jim looks at a picture of Courtney, is very short with Eileen, and goes to the Deri, where he asks Ed when he finished with Angela the first time, before she met him.   When told it was New Year’s Day 1999, he looks worried.
As Debbie passes the shop, Megan sees her and tells her she should be ashamed of telling all these lies about Kevin, just to get her hands on the café;  she is a liar, without a conscience.   Furious, Debbie tells Kevin she is about to tell Sheryl, but she is away with Wil in Cardiff;  once again, Kevin caves in;  “Maybe I was hasty,” he says.   Back at the flat he says he has no choice, and Meic gets her to swear on Ricky’s life she will not tell a soul about Kevin if they transfer the café into her name;  she says it will cost another £10,000 to keep her quiet.   If she does not get the money, she will go to the police right now, so Meic says he will supply the money;  hey have to save Kevin’s good name somehow.
Rhys rants at his father that it is all his fault;  all was going well until he gave up the steroids, and says he will start taking them again, and does not believe Hywel will report him to the college   Hywel says he is better off without her, and knows how he feels, as he caught his girl, Stacey with Cai Rossiter years ago.   When Rhys has stormed out, Hywel cooks up a plan to get a private clinic to test the rugby players, giving Dai the impression it is bing done by UK Sport.   He tells Gaynor he is confident he will not get caught, and it will be worth it if Rhys sees the light.
Eventually Jim tells Eileen what is on his mind, that Ed may be the father of Courtney, as she was born in early October 2000;  she tells him there is only one way to find out for sure, and he reluctantly visits the Trimaster House Clinic online to order a DNA test kit.

Wednesday 23 October 2013
Hywel finds Rhys’s drugs, rings Graystone Clinic to make sure the testers are coming, and warns them not to say who sent them;  then he tells Rhys that he does not want a team of cheats and bans him from training.   Dai says “Happy Birthday” to Diane, but she is not happy with a box of chocolates.   Later Diane moans to Anita about Dai being unimaginative.
Kevin is very uneasy about Meic giving £10,000 of his money to Debbie;  Meic tells him to get Kevin’s share of the café transferred to Debbie’s name.   Mark delivers a parcel from Australia to Dai’s, and says he and Colin will perform at Diane’s party;  they agree on a fee of £75.
Debbie is watching the laptop screen for the money to appear in her account;  when it does, she goes out to celebrate.   Hywel rings Dai, at rugby training, to says that the drug testers are on the way from UK Sport, and within seconds two men in suits arrive;  Eifion and Big Ger look less than pleased.   Sioned has come to watch, but hurriedly rings Ed, who is on his way, to tell him to turn round and go back home.   When the tests are done, Eifion remarks, “I’ve never queued up to pee in a test tube before!”   They all go back to the pub, abandoning training, and Iolo says to Dai, “You should strangle whoever reported us.”
Kevin disconsolately put up the “closed” sign in the café, and Meic finds him upstairs in tears, tries to convince him that all will be well now, and that he can work on the taxis, if necessary.   Debbie is treating people to drinks in the Deri when the team arrives and tell Rhys about the test.   Dai finds Hywel outside the chip shop and says the boys are traumatised;  he reckons that the chairman of Mynydd Bach reported them.   “When I get my hands on Derek Jenkins, I’ll kill him!” he fumes, but Hywel says that cleaning up the club could be the best thing to happen.
Dai returns home with Haddock, chips and mushy peas for Diane’s birthday, and says he does not want to talk about the training session.   Meanwhile Hywel tells Rhys it was a good thing he was not at training;  “When the results come back, that club is going to be in a mess, with its reputation in tatters!”
Rhys sheepishly admits, “Of course I’ll stop;  it’s stupid to carry on,” and throws his drugs in the bin, at which Hywel smiles.

Thursday 24 October 2013
Britt is ready to go to court;  Garry, who is about to take the children out for the day, tells her she has done the right thing, deciding to plead guilty, but she has other ideas.   She tells Siôn she is determined to be sent to prison, so she can confront Gwyneth and get the truth out of her, about the attack on Garry.   Siôn then refuses to go with her, and tells her she is on her own.
Diane has moaned so much about Dai that he almost cancels the party, but is talked out of it by Mark, who needs the money from their performance.   Mark also tells him that news about the drugs test is all over the village.
Diane comes home and is amazed to see a party for her;  she admits she thinks the world of Dai.   Then Mark and Colin perform their specially commissioned song, which eulogises Diane, and ends with the words, “Why did you marry . . . a fool like Dai?” which angers him greatly.   Dai says he is not paying to be insulted.   Soon Hywel arrives and gets into an argument with Dai over the steroids, which Diane overhears, realises why Dai has been so touchy, and is impressed he went ahead with the party despite the problems.
Siôn phones the solicitor, who tells him what has happened to Britt – sentenced to 28 days;  when Garry brings the children home, Siôn tries to avoid their questions, but they are very upset to hear that Britt will not be home for a fortnight.   Garry is angry that he was not told, as he is sure he could have changed Britt’s mind.   He reveals that Dani was the real target, and Siôn is worried that Britt may kill Gwyneth, and would never get out.   Garry assures him that he will get a visiting order and knock some sense into Britt.
Meanwhile in the Gloucestershire prison, the warder tells all the prisoners, in English, of course, “Lock down – back to your cells as quickly as you can!”   Britt meets an astonished Gwyneth in the corridor;  “I pleaded guilty, so they’d send me here.   I’ll get the truth out of you one way or another.   There’s nowhere to run now!   See you tomorrow!”   As Britt is shown to her cell, Gwyneth stands, open-mouthed.

Friday 25 October 2013
Siôn shouts at Garry on the phone that he must get a visiting order to see Britt, as the children are playing up.   Meanwhile, “new girl” Britt walks into the prison games room, watched by all the inmates;  Nikki Foulkes, who is there for GBH and says she “runs the place,” reveals that she speaks Welsh, and Britt asks her where Gwyneth is.   Apparently she volunteered for cleaning duties, but Britt soon tracks her down.
Jim tells Eileen that the DNA testing kit has arrived, and he needs either a hair with a root or a mouth swab from Courtney.   Iolo takes a meal for Siôn, to save him cooking;  Siôn tells him he is the only one he can rely on.   While Dai and Diane talk about Britt in the café, Eifion has a visiting order in his hand;  then they receive texts from Hywel, summoning them to a meeting – the test results must have arrived!   Dai storms off to find Hywel, on the way meeting Jinx, who wants to know what is going on, but is told to keep his nose out.
When Courtney calls at APD, Jim opens her bag and searches for a hair in her brush, but she catches him and insists that her bag is private, and stalks off;  when he meets her later, he apologises;  they “cwtch” and he pulls out one of her hairs, saying it was white.   As he puts the hair, together with one of his own, into the envelope, he tells Eileen he does not know what he will do if he is not Courtney’s father;  Eileen assures him that whatever the result, they will face it together.   He hesitantly posts the envelope in the post box.
As Britt threatens Gwyneth, knowing that she killed one brother and tried to kill the other, Nikki wades in and break things up;  she later reminds Britt that she is in charge, so Britt explains how Gwyneth has twice tried to murder her brother, Garry, and that she wants Gwyneth’s stay to be as uncomfortable as possible, and to “feel like a lifetime.”   When asked why the inmates should do anything to help Britt, she replies that she is willing to pay £1000, and invites Nikki to sleep on it, and let her know the answer in the morning.
At the club meeting in the Deri, Hywel announces the names of those who tested positive for steroids:  Gwilym, Gerwyn, Chris, Heulyn and Eifion;  he adds that Iolo tested positive for cocaine, which he insists was slipped into his drink.   Later Dai blames the players, but tries to slip out of any blame;  Eifion says that he encouraged them to take the drug.   “If we’re going down, you’re going down with us,” he warns Dai.   Hywel accuses Dai of doing more harm than good lately, and will call a meeting for a vote of “No Confidence” in the chairman.
At home, Iolo is worried that his father will find out his test result.   Dai is in the café, worrying about his reputation – “Dai Sgaffald, Steroids Tsar,” when Jinx comes in, telling him he should be ashamed;  Jinx knew something was going on there.   Dai says no-one can prove he knew anything, then informs Diane that he did not supply steroids to anyone — that is, except to Gerwyn.

Monday 28 October 2013
Hywel tells Dai that he is writing an “anti-steroid” policy for the club and will be announcing it on Cwm FM tomorrow.   Garry rings Siôn to tell him that he has a visiting order for Wednesday, and that Britt needs some stuff;  Iolo is worried that Siôn will find out about the cocaine test.   Siôn asks Iolo to mind the children while he goes to Garry’s;  Siôn blames Garry for Britt being in prison, and worries that she she is so desperate for revenge she will do something to Gwyneth, perhaps before Garry can speak to her, resulting in an increased sentence.   Garry says she does not need all the things Siôn has brought, but wants to use them to buy favours.
Rhys finds a letter in the bin, revealing that Hywel ordered the drugs test from a private clinic.   Dai is in the café, denying that the rugby club has any problems, when Rhys rings him, with the information that the drugs test was not official, but organised by Hywel.   Dai storms out, just as a parcel arrives for Debbie, containing what looks exactly like an iPad (but is described simply as “a tablet.”)   Hywel tells Dai that he is giving the club “a kick up the back side,” and Dai protests that the club is like a child to him.
Debbie says she should stop spending and start investing;  Meic advises a bank account – “You’re not intelligent enough to get involved with shares!”   He tells Kevin he will not let her wind him up;  they are in a marathon, not a sprint.   Later she finds a 3.5% interest rate;  Meic cannot forgive Kevin for raping Sheryl and starting all this blackmail business.
As Dai tells Iolo that he is a disappointment, taking cocaine, and bans him for a year, Siôn arrives, and is distraught, although Iolo insists he has never intentionally used drugs, and never will.   Siôn says that he has lost his first wife, his other two sons and Britt, but eventually Iolo convinces him that he is not an addict.
Eifion is again shouting at Marian for forgetting to put the potatoes on, then Rhys arrives with the news that the test was not official, and the league will not find out, so the team can train as usual.   At the Deri, Dai is buying drinks for all the players and saying what a hero Rhys is, loyal to his friends and the club;  Hywel tried to ruin the club, but failed.   Then Hywel appears, and is greeted with, “Here comes the traitor!” but he calmly replies, “You should be ashamed, Dai, leading the boys astray.   We’ll see what the committee say at the special meeting tomorrow, when I propose a vote of no confidence in the chairman.   Be prepared to lose the club!”

Tuesday 29 October 2013
Hywel listens to the radio, as his interview starts;  he tells Jinx that a few players take steroids, with the support of the chairman, Dai Ashurst.   Rhys comes in, hears the radio and throws his bag down, spilling their coffee.   In the shop, Jim is hoping that the DNA results would come, but says they will wait until tomorrow;  Eileen can see how worried he is.   At the café, a giant television is delivered, and Mark brings the forms from the solicitor;  “To sign my life away,” says Kevin.
Dai is in his car, listening to the interview, as Hywel says that children think of rugby players as heroes;  he will stamp out the practice at the club, and Dai, who is responsible for it.   Dai tells Jim that Hywel is going to regret this.   Rhys calls his father, “Idiot!” then Dai rings, saying that there will also be a vote of no confidence in the coach.   Meic is chatting to Megan in the charity shop, and Mark appears to be jealous of their friendship;  when Megan says that trade is down, Mark has the idea of collecting bags of clothes from alongside the recycling bins at the supermarket, and brings them to her.
Eileen is so concerned about Jim, that she goes to Angela, to ask her outright if Jim is Courtney’s father, or if it is possible that Ed is.   Angela is very angry and says that Eileen will be sorry when she tells Jim.   When Eileen joins Jim in the Deri and tells him what she has done, he is incredulous, and accuses her of hoping that he is not Courtney’s father.
Then the meeting of the rugby club committee begins, after Dai has been encouraging the members to support him.   Hywel wants to unseat the chairman, but no-one supports him, and when Dai wants to sack the coach, everyone except Jim votes in favour of that.   Hywel gets home and tells Gaynor that he has been sacked;  he tells her, “I was only doing the right thing.   I loved that job and looked forward to it.   It was something I could do together with Rhys.”   Rhys is in fact listening to all this.   Later, Rhys wants a word with his father;  he did not realise just how much the rugby coach job meant to him, and empties his steroids down the sink, asking if he can do anything to help the situation.   “You’ve just done that,” replies Hywel, very relieved.
Jim collects his things from the shop flat and says he is moving back to Maes y Deri;  he says, “I love Courtney more than anything – how could you hope I would lose her?”

Wednesday 30 October 2013
Garry is about to leave for his prison visit, and assures Dani that she is safe now Gwyneth is behind bars;  Britt will be out next week — if she behaves.   Dani has to pay her Enterprise rent.   Eifion is also heading towards the prison, and Marian has prepared sandwiches and a flask.   Mark asks Ricky for help with moving the 35 pumpkins he is going to sell in aid of Megan’s Maenan Appeal;  however he is denied space at the Enterprise centre.   Gethin is annoying Dani by turning up the radio;  when she finds him using her nail varnish, she warns him, “Touch my stuff again and I’ll castrate you!”   She tells him he will not get rid of her, and Gemma is tired of their arguing.
Garry is surprised to see Eifion entering the prison to visit Gwyneth;  Garry goes to the drinks machine, close to where Gwyneth is sitting, and quietly warns her, “Don’t even think about trying to hurt Dani again.   She’s living with me and Gwern, and you don’t want him getting hurt!”   Eifion is worried that Garry will tell everyone that he was visiting Gwyneth, and says he refuses to come again, as she is just using him.
Garry stresses to Britt that he was not the target of the hit, Dani was;  no-one knew he would be in her flat, and Siôn and the children want her home.   However, Britt is still convinced that Gwyneth tried to kill Garry twice, and says she has found someone to make Gwyneth’s life hell, for payment, and wants Garry to transfer the money to Nikki’s account.   Garry says she is likely to take the money and then report Britt to “the screws,” and what would Brandon think of what she is doing.
Mark has persuaded Colin to help with the hollowing out of pumpkins, but when he reveals the money is going to the charity shop, Colin quickly loses interest.   Ricky arrives, wearing a mask of Gwyneth, with horns, but is told it is in very bad taste.   Later, after Garry reports to Siôn that he has failed to change Britt’s mind about revenge, he sees a gang of children in those masks in the street, and stops one of them;  “Being a murderer isn’t funny!   Understand?” he says.
Britt tells Nikki that the money will be in her account, as the Monks do not go back on their word, but they begin to victimse her, calling her “Bratt.”   Gwyneth warns her not to cross Nikki, and to make a fool of herself;  “Be careful!”
Garry arrives back at his flat, and enjoys a “cwtch” with Dani and Gwern.

Thursday 31 October 2013
Britt tells Nikki that Gwyneth has killed one of her brothers, and will not stop until she has killed the other;  Nikki tells her that she will sort everything, but later tells Gwyneth about the £3000 payment.   “We’ve become good friends, you and me,” she says, “I don’t like people telling me what to do.”
Although Gwyneth urges her not to, Nikki is determined to teach Britt a lesson, calls her a “spoilt Bratt” and the prisoners surround her.   Britt tries to fight her way out, but Gwyneth stops it, saying, “This is between Britt and me!” and asks Britt if she is happy now.   Later she warns Britt that no-one has heard of the Monks, and you cannot trust anyone in the prison;  she must stay out of trouble, and will get out next Wednesday
Debbie is getting impatient, and tells Kevin she hates him, he deserves to lose everything, and she is off to see Sheryl;  she does not say anything to her about the rape, while Meic and Kevin anxiously watch from across the road, but Sheryl is keen to get rid of her.
Back at the café, she wants the transfer signed immediately, but Meic produces another agreement, which he says she must sign first (a translation of which is below).
AGREEMENT
I, Debbie Powell, voluntarily admit that I have blackmailed Kevin Powell by threatening to go to the police and charge him with the rape of Sheryl Hughes.
I confirm that I accepted on 16 October 2013 £6000, on 22 October 2013 £10,000, and on 31 October 2013 his 60% share of the Valley Café.
I note on this sheet that I was aware of Kevin Powell raping Sheryl Hughes on the eve of our wedding, which was 7 June 2013, and, in hope of reconciliation, had withheld this information for the benefit of myself.   If this sheet is used in court, I therefore admit that I am guilty of blackmail and perverting the course of justice.

This causes Debbie to hesitate and consider her position;  Meic and Kevin are smiling.
Meic talks to Megan, and they condemn Ricky’s mask business, Meic saying he makes money at the expense of others, like his mother.   Mark arrives with £85 from sale of the pumpkins for Megan’s shop, explaining that Eileen ordered 15 for the shop, but 50 were delivered;  he says that Meic is trying to “get his feet under the table.”
Debbie has drawn up another agreement, that Kevin will stay on as chef until she can find someone else, and will live in the flat to keep up appearances until April, then she will divorce him.   Kevin signs this, but exchanges winks with Meic.   Mark has tea with Megan, worrying about her friendship with Meic.
Gwyneth finds Britt and tells her she belongs with her family, not with these crooks.   She herself will be there for a year, so has to fit in, and deserves to be there for Brandon’s death;  the judge decided it would be two years, and Britt must accept that.   When Britt snarls, “Never!” Gwyneth tells her she must let go and move on, or hate will eat her alive.

September 2013

Monday 2 September 2013
As Wil is going back to school tomorrow, Anita proposes taking him to Cardiff for the day;  Sheryl objects, as she has arranged for him to go to Cai’s, but after she has gone to the salon, Anita rings Cai’s mother and tells her plans have changed.   She remarks to Wil that they will not tell his mum, as she will only stop them, because she likes getting her own way.
When Sheryl pops back to get her phone, she is furious that they have gone behind her back;  “Do what you like – that’s what you usually do!” shouts Sheryl.   Wil has had enough, shouts, “Stop –you’re spoiling everything,” refuses to go to Cardiff and storms upstairs.
After Jim warns Colin he can expect a letter from his solicitor, after the slander of his performance, Colin is worried, and goes to Gaynor, wanting the number of her solicitor;  she advises him instead to grovel to Jim.   On Mark’s first day as postman he is accompanied by a supervisor, and insists that Eileen prove who she is before handing over her parcel, then he will not give Gaynor her post unless she opens her front door.
Tudur goes to see Angela, as he is leaving, but would like to see Courtney, who comes in, but Angela tells that Mr Davies is talking about care for his mother.   Tudur tells Angela that she is a professional, and a good mother;  he has no right to expect anything from her.   When he leaves, he hugs Angela.
Courtney sees Jim and Eileen meet and hardly speak to each other;  she asks Eileen about it, gets no answer, so asks Jim, who tells her that he and Eileen have finished, loses his temper and shouts at her.   Meanwhile, Eileen tells Colin in the shop that they have split up.
Back home, Courtney asks Angela if she knew of the split;  Angela tells her that not everyone wants to share their personal feelings:  Courtney responds, “You and Dad are as bad as each other – I’ve had enough!”   Colin goes to Jim at APD with an abject apology, telling him it was wrong and irresponsible;  Jim, with bigger problems on his mind, tells Colin, “Just go!   If I see you in here again, you’ll be in court!”   Later Angela asks Jim if they are doing the right thing, keeping the truth from Courtney;  when he bemoans the fact that he has had to “break the heart of the woman I love,” Angela rather callously replies that being a parent is all about sacrifice.

Tuesday 3 September 2013
Wil leaves school after the first day;  Anita has his tea ready and phones him but receives no reply, so she asks Sheryl if he has anything after school.   When Sheryl also gets no reply, Anita goes to the school and cannot find him;  by this time Sheryl fears that Moc has returned, so she contacts the police, and then enlists Meic’s help – he radios his taxi drivers to keep watch for Wil.
Eifion again tries to find out Cadno’s whereabouts from Gwyneth, who insists that Cadno does not want him to know;  later when he has drunk too much in the Deri, Sioned comes in and he accuses her of causing the marriage breakdown.   Eifion says she was “all legs in short skirts, and wearing low-cut tops.”   When he challenges her, “Fancy your chances with me?” and starts manhandling her, Ed shows him the door.
Sioned asks Ed if she could have her bar job back, as the supply teacher work has not picked up yet;  she thinks it is time she started mixing with people again, and tells Ed she is living a healthy lifestyle, drinking four pints of water a day.
When Meic phones Eifion to warn him he is looking for Wil on Penrhewl land, Eifion is asleep in a drunken stupor;  he is woken when Gwyneth goes there and finds he is not eating properly and the place is in a mess.   As Marian is due home tomorrow, she helps him tidy up.   When he moans about his situation, Gwyneth says she will help him, as long as he helps himself and stays sober.
The police come to get some details about Wil, and ask, “Could he have run away?” but neither Anita or Sheryl will admit to that.   As Meic searches the fields, he continually dials Wil’s phone, and at last hears it ringing in the distance;  when he locates Wil, after notifying Sheryl, he is told, “I’m not going home.”
Meic does not blame him;  “They’re at it like cats and dogs every minute!”   When Wil says that it is all his fault, Meic assures him that he can depend on his family.
But Wil answers, “I’m not sure who my family are any more.   We move from place to place, and live with so many different people.   Everybody’s lives would be easier if I weren’t around.”
When Meic asks him where he will go, he thinks probably to his dad in Canada;  Meic says, “I’m your dad’s dad, and you’re very important to me.   Think of me on your travels, having to cope with those two on my own, without your help.”   After thinking for a minute, Wil gets up;  “Come on, we’re going home.   I can’t let you face them on your own.
Meanwhile, when the police have left, Sheryl and Anita are arguing again, blaming each other;  finally they agree they have to look after each other – they are family.

Wednesday 4 September 2013
At the farm, Eifion is angrily walloping in fence posts;  he sees Mark the postman, who tells him that he was not in at the farmhouse, so he will have to collect the parcel from the depot, but his manager say he can deliver it if he gets a signature.
The parcel contain a message saying that Cadno and Bobi are happy.
Dani receives a text from Ed asking if she wants to “stay over;”  Sion tells her that Marian would like to see her, but she cannot understand why;  when she goes there, Marian tells her she saw Bob in heaven, where he is happy, and wants her to be happy and safe;  Brandon wants the same things for Dani.   Dani is somewhat doubtful.
When Ffion and Jinx go to the café, claiming their “free food for a week”, Meic tackles Debbie about it, and she reveals the droppings in the lasagne affair, blaming him because of his age and failing eyesight.   If it had not been for Angela keeping quiet, she says, H&S would have closed down the café.   He warns Debbie that he is keeping his eye on her, then goes home and carries out a careful investigation, finding no trace of rat droppings;  Kevin believes him that there are no droppings at his home, and urges him to forget the matter.
At the Deri, Dani tells Siôn that the way Brandon treated her always made her feel special;  then Mark comes in after his shift, and is called “Postman Prat” by Colin, after which they think they could form a double act, “Stars of the Valley.”
When Mark mentions the school rat doing tricks for Ricky, Meic realises what is going on, and hurries to the flat above the café, where Debbie proudly admits what she did;  not to destroy the business, but to get rid of him.
“You’ve never thought I was good enough for Kevin;  you treat me like dirt, and I’ve had enough!”   When Kevin comes in, he knows what has happened, and tells them to stop arguing;  he knows Debbie framed his dad, and urges them to show more respect and co-operation.   After Meic leaves, he tells Debbie that he has a share in the business and they need him.
Ed returns from training with the rest of the team, and Sioned, who takes over behind the bar, to Dani’s disappointment;  Ed gives Dani little attention, so she refuses his offer to stay over and sadly leaves.
Eifion picks a quarrel with some of the rugby players, so Gwyneth drags him away;  when they arrive back at Penrhewl, he says trouble follows him around as he is so lonely, and asks if Gwyneth is too.   He kisses her, and apologises, but Gwyneth then realises that this is his attempt to find out Cadno’s address from him, so she hurriedly leaves.

Thursday 5 September 2013
Dani is in a pensive mood at the salon;  she tells Sheryl that she just wanted a casual relationship, and wonders why Brandon had to die.   At the Deri, Garry watches as the girl from the previous evening comes downstairs;  Ed says she was too drunk to go home, and what business is it of Garry’s?   He replies that it is if Dani gets hurt.
Diane suggests that they invite Anita and Meic over for a meal, but Dai objects;  later, in the Deri, he asks Hywel to call him away to a Rugby Club meeting, so he can escape, and explains what happened when Anita collapsed on his bed.   Meanwhile, Anita refuses to go, and explains why, but Meic insists they go and sort things out.
Dani goes to Gethin’s, where he is sorting through a box of Moc’s old photos;  she tells him he has to “let go”, like she did after Brandon’s death, but he tells her not to interfere.   Garry tells Dani about the girl who stayed the night with Ed, as she “has a right to know.”   When Dani returns to Gethin’s, he is not around, and she takes away the box of photos;  when she gets to the salon, she finds a memory stick in the box, and Sheryl expects it to have pictures of children, so they look, and are astonished to see Gwyneth by the door of Garry’s flat, lighting something and putting it through the letterbox.
Meic and Anita arrive at Diane’s, and soon after, Hywel comes, but not to save Dai, rather to revel in his discomfort;  he goads Dai and talks of “open marriage”.
When Diane prepares to serve the meal, Dai corners Hywel, who tells him he must be honest;  he declines an invitation to join them and goes, after which Dai tells Anita to forget what happened.
Dani says that they must give the stick to the police and let them ask the questions, but wonders why Gethin has been keeping this information to himself.   He knows that Gwyneth did it;  Dani says, “Justice for Brandon is the most important thing”.

Friday 6 September 2013
Gwyneth answers the door to Eifion, who has a letter for Cadno he wants her to send.
Dani bursts into Gethin’s;  “You knew Gwyneth killed Brandon!” she shouts, and Gethin denies it, asking why Gwyneth would do something like that, but Dani insists he must have known;  he says he would never lie about that.
The police arrive at Gwyneth’s and DS Fielding arrests her on suspicion of arson on 22 September 2011.   She asks Eifion to take Gwern to Britt’s, and is driven off in the police car.   Garry is at Britt’s when Dani arrives and says she knows who killed Brandon, she has seen it on film, but Gethin maintains he did not know.   Britt is worried that her part in this will come out.
When Iolo comes home, Gethin tells him Gwyneth has been arrested for the fire, and wants to go to the Deri to see what people are saying about it.   Eifion takes Gwern to Britt, who is more worried about what Gwyneth might say;  Dani is convinced that Garry knows more than he is saying, but he says being angry will not bring Brandon back.
The police interview is at 8:10pm;  DS Fielding asks what Gwyneth was doing on the night in question, then shows her the film, and Gwyneth admits it is her.   Gethin and Iolo arrive at the Deri, and as soon as the news about the fire is mentioned, Siôn hurriedly leaves.
Dani protests to Garry that she had trusted Gwyneth, and still thinks it was something to do with him.   Siôn gets home, where Britt says the important thing is what Gwyneth will say about her, and when Siôn says the truth has a habit of coming out, she predicts the children being put in a children's’ home or with foster parents if she is jailed.
Gwyneth makes the excuses that she was under stress;  Garry was making her life hell, and Yvonne was an undercover investigator;  she did not know who was telling the truth, but only intended to frighten Garry, and did not know Brandon would dash into the building.   “If I knew what would happen...” she says, and DS Fielding replies, “That’s what they all say.”
Gwyneth continues about her cancer, and how she hates herself for killing Brandon, but says she has been punished enough.   Expert reports will be prepared into her mental state and circumstances.   Then comes the revelation that Gwyneth had been blackmailed;  when asked who was doing that, she replies, “Gethin Thomas.”
In the Deri, Eifion calls Gwyneth, “devious,” kissing Cadno;  he says that he will continue farming Penrhewl.    Garry tells Gethin that he said every copy of the film had been destroyed – “How could you have been so negligent?”

Monday 9 September 2013
As Gwynfor and his mate watch, two cars arrive in the village:  a taxi bringing back Gwyneth, who has been bailed by the police, and the police themselves, who bang on Gethin’s door.   DS Fielding arrests Gethin on suspicion of blackmail, and he is loaded into the police car;  incidentally he is managing to walk better now, but pretends to need the crutches.   When questioned, he says he knew nothing about any memory stick, and says that in a court he, who has been abused and the victim of a hit and run, will be believed, rather than Gwyneth Jones, an arsonist, fantasist and murderer.
Gwyneth goes straight to Siôn and Britt;  she greets Gwern, and then hurries off to the Salon to talk to Dani, who is far from pleased to see her.   She tells Dani that Gethin has known about her starting the fire for a long time, and blackmailed her about it, but Dani refuses to believe this, and tells her to leave;  but when thinking of the memory stick being found in a box at Gethin’s, she begins to have doubts.
Mark the postman is chatting to Colin on his round, puts a parcel on the roof of a parked car and, predictably, the car drives off;   as Mark, despite a chase, cannot catch the car, the recipient, Jim, insists on Mark repaying him for the set of Doc Martin DVDs in the parcel.   Mark and Colin are also talking about their “double-act.”   Gaynor gives Mark a card from the school staff and cleaners, reading, “Pob Lwc,” and saying that the school is not the same any more.
Courtney and Eileen are talking, but Eileen will not explain why she and Jim have split up;  when she tells Colin that she may be able to give him the details one day, he hugs her, Courtney sees them and reports to Jim that she is having an affair with Colin, but Jim dismisses this.
When Siôn tells Britt that they are both involved with Gwyneth’s arson, Britt snarls that the only important things are her family:  her, Siôn, Garry and the children;  she will do anything to protect them, and does not care what happens to Gwyneth or Dani.

Tuesday 10 September 2013
Gethin phones for a taxi from the police station;  meanwhile, Gwyneth leaves her house, with Garry volunteering to clean the red graffiti from her door, while she goes to the salon.   She soon finds she is not welcome there;  Sheryl says Brandon was like a father to her and was Dani’s boyfriend, but Gwyneth killed him — they tell her she cannot work there any longer.
Gethin tells Iolo that the police business was nothing important, just something made up by Gwyneth;  he also says that he could have told them about his accident, to show how they charged the wrong person.   This makes Iolo anxious, but Gethin says he did not in fact tell them.
Jinx is worried about Gwyneth being arrested, as he did not inform the police about what he knew;   Ffion tells him to go and see Gwyneth, to find out whether she mentioned him.   When he sees her and finds out she told the police nothing about him, he quickly leaves and reports back to Ffion, waiting in the Deri.
Britt and Garry talk about the situation, with Garry seeming to be very protective towards Dani.   When Gethin visits Gwyneth, he suggests that she withdraw the allegation about the blackmail, as there is no evidence to back it up, but she flatly refuses.   Then Dani goes to Gethin’s, and despite his protestations tells him she believes Gwyneth’s story;  she wants nothing more to do with him, and gives back the key to Iolo’s house.
At the Deri, the rugby team come in after training, Rhys nursing an injury where he was tackled like “a rhino tackling a meerkat,” according to Sioned.   Ed’s bruised chest needs an ice-pack, administered by Sioned, and Dani confronts him about ignoring her and making her look a fool in front of her friends;  he says that they agreed it would be a casual relationship, but she confides to Sheryl that she thought it might develop into something more.   After going upstairs and being bandaged up, he kisses Sioned, but she goes back downstairs.
Gwyneth collects Gwern from Britt’s, protesting that everyone is against her;  Britt typically snarls, “You cannot blame anyone else for that!”   When Garry accuses her of being harsh, Britt replies that Gwyneth will definitely be going down for this, and Britt will have to be a mother to Gwern;  she cannot forgive Gwyneth for what she did — and she will get exactly what she deserves.

Wednesday 11 September 2013
Gwyneth rings Cadno, but receives no reply, then she texts Eifion, saying they need to talk;  Eileen comes to the farm to collect fruit and eggs for the shop, and finds the place in a mess.   When she offers to do some washing for him, she finds a t-shirt covered in red paint;  she realises that he had painted the word “murderer” on Gwyneth’s door, but he says she deserves to be hanging from a lamp post.
Anita is angry when Meic tells her he has invited Dai and Diane over;  when they are alone, Anita admits to Diane what happened when she was drunk, but she cannot remember any of it, so relies on what Dai told her.   Diane realises that Dai’s version of what happened is not true, and when he returns she and Anita expose his lies;  he thinks he can get away with an apology and buying wine for them at the Deri, but Anita and Diane devise a punishment for him:  to work on the bank building, of which they own the lease.
In the shop, Colin is trying to sing like Elvis, as he and Mark are performing on Friday.   When Jim comes in, Eileen tries to improve their relationship, saying she still loves him, but he leaves.
Gwyneth has an unexpected visitor — Cadno — who cannot believe that she has killed Brandon;  Gwyneth comes out with her usual excuse, that it was an accident.   Cadno thought she knew Gwyneth, but cannot be friends with a murderer, so hand back the pendant she was given, and leaves.
Meic takes Colin some lyrics he wrote years ago, wanting him to perform them, but Colin says they need a lot of practice.   Eileen sees Eifion in the Deri, and asks if he saw Cadno, who was in the village half an hour ago;  he rushes off to Gwyneth’s, where he threatens to trash the place if she will not tell him where Cadno is;   she replies that Cadno wants no more to do with her and tells him to go.   She looks despairingly at the pendant.

Thursday 12 September 2013
Dani is reading a book in the salon when Garry comes in to check on her;  she says she is guaranteed to pick the wrong bloke.   They reminisce about Brandon being a big softie, he says she deserves better than Ed and that he is always there for her.   He has to do what is best for Gwern.
Gethin is now standing unaided, but still pretends to be disabled and treats Iolo like a servant, asking him to go and get him a lasagne.   Gethin goes on about the abuse, his failed marriage and business and the accident, and is sure the police have forgotten about him now.
In the Deri, Rhys is asking Ed about supplements to build him up, and suggests steroids, but Ed advises against them.   Gemma wants to organise something for Dani’s birthday tomorrow.   After Sheryl warns Dani about Garry liking to control people, Gemma comes in and Sheryl agrees to help do something to cheer up Dani.   Garry confronts Ed, telling him he should be ashamed of how he is treating Dani.
In the café where Iolo has gone on Gethin’s orders, Dani says he is being treated like a slave;  Gethin is a liar and a cheat.   When Iolo gets home, Gethin wants the lasagne put in the oven, but Iolo says he can do it himself, as he is going to Swansea;  later Gethin finds him in the Deri and thinks Iolo is avoiding him.
After training, Rhys is chosen to play number 7, and Ed is made captain;  Rhys goes outside and surreptitiously buys tablets from Gerwyn.   Gemma wants a birthday party for Dani in the Deri, but Colin and Mark will be “performing” then.
Garry gives Dani a DVD version of the sequel to Dani’s book, but later apologises for the title – “The girl who played with fire.”   Sheryl watches, concerned, from  the other end of the bar.
Angela demands to know from Ed why he is close to Sioned;  despite his insistence that it is his business and he will not be lectured by her, she tells him that Sioned is a spoilt child and that he should not go near her.   He wants to live his own life and tells her to go.

Friday 13 September 2013
Dani gets up on her birthday feeling depressed;  Garry arrives, bringing a bottle and a present for her, which cheers her up, and she hugs him.    She says she was feeling empty, and he is the only friend she can trust;  this is when he drops the bombshell that he knew about Gwyneth starting the fire, but was trying to protect Gwern.   She deserves to be told the truth, he says, but Dani is horrified that almost everyone knew except her, and screams at him to “Get out!”
Diane and Anita are supervising Dai as he starts the decorating of the bank building, and comment about his laziness and lack of fitness.   Colin and Mark practise their songs and when Sheryl calls, they tells her that Meic’s songs are only fit for the bin;  Colin says that Siôn has cassettes of Welsh songs, and goes to borrow them.
In the evening Diane tells Dai he can stop work, and he thinks he will have Saturday off to watch the first match of the season, but he is told that he will be working.   He describes Diane and Anita as “sadists.”
Sheryl and Gemma are in the salon when Dani comes in and tells them she will be at the Deri later;  first she has something to do.    She goes to the police station, and reports that certain people have withheld information about the fire, and have known about it for a year;  they are Siôn White, Britt White and Garry Monk.
When she nears the Deri, she changes her mind and turns, only to meet Sheryl, who steers her back to the pub.   Inside, Dai is asleep, and when Diane wakes him with a pint, he apologises for everything.   When Dani enters, she sees Garry and walks straight out again;  he follows her out and she tells him she has reported him to the police.   “You were going to let Gwyneth get away with killing Brandon!” she says.
Later, when she is called upon for a speech in the Deri, she thanks everyone for coming, recalling that it is two years since she lost Brandon.
“If Brandon could be here, he would . . . ” then she checks herself, and continues, “He’d want us all to enjoy ourselves.   To Brandon!” she says, raising her glass.   She and Garry glower at each other.

Monday 16 September 2013
Garry is eating his breakfast when a policewoman calls, wanting “a word at the station” as he is suspected of perverting the course of justice;  as he is getting into the police car, he sees Dani watching.   Siôn is encouraging Catrin to eat bread “with bits in it” when DS Fielding arrives, asking both Britt and Siôn to come with her.
Dai thinks his punishment is over, but Diane expects new skirting boards to be fitted today, and he says she wants her pound of flesh.   Dani tells Sheryl that Garry, Britt and Siôn have been arrested, and that she informed the police when Garry told her.
Under questioning, Siôn admits that he did withhold evidence, and says he is not sure if he has a conscience any more.   Britt, on the other hand, insists she knows nothing about the matter, and will say no more until her solicitor arrives, despite DS Fielding’s exhortation to tell the truth, like her husband has done.   Later, when the solicitor is present, she repeats that she knows nothing, and rants that all she is worried about is getting back to her children.   Meanwhile, someone from Children’s Services is leading Catrin, Chester and Aaron to a police car.
In the bank, Anita and Diane are keeping Dai busy, and he suffers an attack of cramp, making his shout like “the squeal of a dying pig” according to Diane;     later, she tells him his punishment is over, and they have a drink in the Deri.
Sheryl tells Dani that Garry should not have kept quiet about something like that, and Dani laments, “My ideas are always wrong.   I’m useless.   Ed and Garry treated me like dirt, and the only man I loved, and who loved me, has gone.”   Then Anita joins Dai and Diane to tell them of the arrests;  Dani publicly announces that she informed the police.   “They knew who killed Brandon, and they deserve everything that’s coming to them.
Garry is faced by DS Fielding, and reminded that he faces a serious allegation.   He replies that it was his brother who died, and he is guilty, but as well as loving his brother, he also loves his son;  that is why he kept quiet about Gwyneth.   “Dani deserved to know the truth;  she needs peace now, wherever that leaves the rest of us.”

Tuesday 17 September 2013
Gwyneth receives a letter telling her she is on bail until a court appearance.   Siôn is told at the police station that Garry has been released but Britt is still being questioned;  he goes home and the children are returned to him.   Soon after, Britt returns, makes a fuss of the children and ignores Siôn.   She then says she is taking them to the park — but he is not coming!
Gwyneth goes to the salon and tells Dani she pleaded guilty and will be punished, but Dani is unimpressed, and reveals that Garry, Siôn and Britt have been arrested;  she is the only one doing the right thing for Brandon.   When Gwyneth expresses concern for Gwern, Dani retorts that she did not care when she lit the fire.   Gwyneth then sees Garry, and asks why he told Dani about her starting the fire;  “Why is Dani suddenly so important?”
He replies that it is impossible to control people by threatening them or keeping the truth from them;  he is glad he told her, and will now face the consequences.   He realises that seeking revenge on Yvonne was the start of all this, and says that he must face the consequences and take his punishment.
Later Eifion visits Gwyneth and bewails the loss of Cadno and Bobi, and the fact that Cadno wants the farm;  he would rather burn the place down, he says.   She advises him not to let hate take hold of him.
Britt is snarling at Siôn again that his conscience is more important than his family;  why did he not simply deny everything, as the police had no evidence;  he is too weak to fight back.   When Garry arrives, she tells him that Siôn has admitted he withheld evidence, and he, Garry replies that was the best thing to do.   As Britt stands, amazed, he says that even if Dani is not family, this has been gnawing at her for two years.   “No more lies,” he says, “Plead guilty and maybe you won’t lose your children.”
Later, when Dani visits Garry and says she was doing the right thing for Brandon, he says he does not blame her;  he did not want to lie to her, but had to protect Gwern, whom Brandon thought the world of.   Dani says, “You’ve been cruel to me and a bad brother to Brandon;  you always wanted to come between us and you succeeded!   If you had treated Gwyneth better, there would have been no fire and Brandon would be alive.   There’s no-one more to blame than you, and I hate you for it!”

Wednesday 18 September 2013
Sioned is busily working behind the bar when Dani comes in for a word with Ed;  she tells him that she went to the police, but when he asks what will happen to the children, she wonders if she did the right thing.   He later confides to Sioned that he never thought Dani would speak to him again.
Eileen receives a text from Courtney, wanting to meet in the Deri;  she has told Angela she is going to Rhian’s.   When Jim tells Angela that Eileen and Courtney are still friends, she wants to stop them, in case Courtney finds out the truth.   Just as Courtney is asking Eileen about Colin, and being assured that Eileen still loves her father, Angela walks in, accuses Courtney of lying to her, and tells her to go home.
Then she turns on Eileen:  “What are you doing?   Are you up to something?   You have no right to be part of her life!”   When Dani sees Eileen in the alley, she wonders whether she should have kept her mouth shut.   When she says that it was bound to come out in the end, Eileen hurries away.
Lois is not making much progress with what she needs for university, so Gaynor takes over compiling it;  she tells Lois that her mother did not want her to go to university, but she stubbornly went.   Lois says she is scared she will not be like the others, as she had a baby and 16 and gave her away;  she is worried how she will explain that if she “meets” someone.
Sioned has been scared by a spider in the cellar, then Ed invites her upstairs, much to Angela’s disgust, on the pretext of a new fitness regime;  Sioned sees the bottle of steroids, and tries to look unconcerned, but obviously is worried.   They kiss, then go off somewhere together . . .
Angela gradually becomes more drunk;  Debbie comes in and is told that Courtney has lied to her mother.   Meanwhile, after their assignation, Ed says he has nothing to hide, they are both single, so can do what they like.   When they reappear behind the bar, Angela launches into a tirade:  “You haven’t let that bed get cold since I left!   You’re just trying to prove you’re a man!”
Then she addresses Sioned:  “You think you can have what you want, but Macs saw right through you, you slut!”   As Jim tries to remove her from the pub before she causes any more upset, she breaks down in tears, sobbing, “It’s all such a mess!”
Ed apologises to Sioned for that scene, but she assures him he has done nothing wrong.

Thursday 19 September 2013
As Siôn sits, worrying about the situation, he is taunted by Britt:  “You should have done your thinking in the cop shop, you should have kept your mouth shut!”
Siôn says he has let everyone down – the family, the village, the chapel.   He goes to see Megan, reminding Britt that he is not the one who lied to the police.
In the chip shop, Ed asks Mark if he and Colin will perform that evening;  Colin is not keen, but the prospect of £60 changes his mind.   Jim finds Angela drinking again in the Deri, and tells her she cannot change the past, but Angela does not want Courtney’s life destroyed like hers;  she does not want Courtney to see Eileen again, and threatens to take her away, so Jim will not see her either.   Jim tells her that she cannot control Courtney’s life, and that she loves Eileen, as he does.
Siôn sees Megan in her shop, seeking advice, and she agrees that some chapel members feel they have been let down, but they are in a minority;  this does nothing to reassure Siôn, and he buys a bottle of whisky at the Deri to drown his sorrows.   Later, in the street, he meets Dani, and apologises drunkenly, falling to his knees and sobbing, but Dani says he is pathetic.
Colin and Mark are practising, but Colin is afraid of failing;  when they get to the Deri, late, Sion is still swigging the whisky out in the alley, then he lurches across the road and bangs on Iolo’s door.   He then goes round to the back, where Iolo finds him, and asks, “After all the preaching, is this how you deal with your problems?”   Siôn slurs, “I’ve let myself down, and Dani, the children and you.   I hate myself;  how can I live with myself?”   While this is going on, Gethin opens the back door, then retreats back inside.   Iolo helps his father, almost unable to walk, upstairs in his house.
Jim goes to see Eileen and tells her that Courtney has told him that they are both behaving stubbornly;  when she asks him what he wants, he replies, “Us!   Us is what I want!   I miss you!”   Eileen says he hurt her when he walked away just when she needed him, and they cannot turn the clock back.
Iolo confronts Gethin and demands how long he was been able to walk;  he says the emotional blackmail ends tonight.   To Gethin’s reply, “What if I walk to the police station?” Iolo calls his bluff:  “Go on then, you have no proof.”   He says enough is enough, and he will not be Gethin’s slave any longer, but he can live there.   “Game over?” and tells Gethin to get his own beer from the fridge.
Mark and Colin’s entertainment goes better than expected, and they enlist the help of Gwen from the café;  amidst the praises, Ed hands over the £60;  Colin will put his share towards Lois’ expenses.
Jim insists that things may have changed, but they have not.   Eileen replies that he made her feel like she did when she was sixteen – she was punished for being pregnant;  but she acknowledges if the baby had been anyone but Angela, he would not have behaved as he did.   “You are a good man, and I love you!”
“How much do you love me?” asks Jim, “Enough to marry me?”  he produces the ring, and Eileen responds, “Yes, I will!”

Friday 20 September 2013
Colin is full of his successful performance, when Siôn staggers downstairs, and Iolo gives him a glass of something for the pain;  he also texts Britt.   Siôn feels like an idiot.   She, meanwhile, has written a note for Siôn and tells the children they are going away for a few days.
Gaynor packs a box of food for Lois, and Lois reminds her there are shops in Cardiff.   Hywel remarks that he will have to throw Rhys out of bed, and Gaynor hopes he will throw Rachel out as well.   When they come downstairs, Rhys gives Lois a picture of him and her;  “Just like brother and sister,” remarks Rachel.   Later, Rachel asks Rhys if he will give her a gift, and as he is busy on a computer game, and ignoring her, she leaves.
When Colin speaks to Dani in the street, she takes little notice, as she is watching Garry walk past;  when he gets to the garage, he looks at a photo of him and Brandon.   When he walks back along the street, Siôn is staggering out of Iolo’s door;  Garry remarks, “Looks as it you had a night on the pop!”   He says he is not ready to face Britt and they walk together through the park, Siôn hoping that the worst is over, but at that moment, Britt is taking cases out to the car.
Gaynor is glad that Lois and Rhys understand each other;  Lois says that she did fancy him, but now she sometimes feels sorry for Rachel, being so false and two-faced.
As Garry and Siôn walk through the park, Dani is sitting on a bench;  Siôn says he always believed that no good would come from evil deeds, but he has failed, and everyone will get their comeuppance.   He does not want to go near Dani, after last night, so walks on, while Garry approaches her.
Garry remarks that even Siôn makes mistakes, and when Dani invites him to sit down, he jokes that Siôn will probably never be able to forgive himself;  he continues that they must try to forget, or there is no point in going on, and he reminds her that she has done nothing wrong.   He puts his arm around her.
After being delayed looking for Aaron’s toy, Britt bundles the children into the car;  they see Sion coming down the road behind them, so Britt starts the car, and drives away, with Siôn trying to run after them.   Inside the house he finds the note, pulls Aaron’s toy from the sofa and cries.

Monday 23 September 2013
An unshaven Siôn is trying unsuccessfully to contact Britt, when Megan arrives to check the grant application forms have been sent off, but Siôn has more important things on his mind.
Eileen announces to Angela that she and Jim are engaged;  Angela is stupefied and wants to tell Courtney herself.   When Sioned comes in, she is glad her mother is going to marry Jim;  later, Courtney sees the ring and knows what is happening, and Sioned says they will be the bridesmaids.
Garry invites Dani to the Deri, to have a Newcastle Brown in memory of Brandon;  he tells her he has not apologised properly for keeping the truth from her for so long, but she understands he was protecting Gwern – and her.   “Brandon can now rest in peace,” says Dani, then Siôn arrives and tells Garry that Britt is missing, and the children;  they ring all the contacts they can think of, but with no success.
Dani is glad that Brandon found out about her sleeping with Garry in Newcastle, because he forgave her, and she could forgive herself.
Megan reports to Anita and Diane that the deadline for the grant has been missed, and incurs their wrath by referring to the Welsh Language Initiative, when they had intended it to be a Business Enterprise.
Courtney excitedly tells her mother that she is going to be a bridesmaid, so then Angela confronts Eileen, calling it, “Not a wedding, it’s a pantomime and Courtney won’t be part of it!”   Eileen points out that Courtney will suspect something is going on in that case.   Then Angela threatens, “Does Sioned know your dirty little secret?   That would be a nice surprise – a half-sister and a mother who has lied to her for twenty years!   Leave Courtney out of it, in case I put my foot in it.”   Then she goes to moan at Jim, saying she will not sit back and let him make the biggest mistake of his life.   “I did that when I married you!” he retorts, and just wants to eat his meal in peace.
Dani and Garry have enjoyed their time together, and will meet for lunch tomorrow;  speaking to a friend in the trade, Garry finds that Britt put £70 of petrol in the car at Llanarthur and bought food, so they will not be anywhere local.   He then phones Ned and Gloria in Newcastle, but gets no joy there.   When Siôn kicks the furniture, Garry admonishes, “Losing your temper isn’t going to help, is it?”
In the café, Dani asks Anita and Diane about what to wear on a first date that is not a date;  they ask who is the lucky bloke, but she keeps quiet.   Despite Garry’s objections, Siôn reports Britt’s disappearance to the police;  he tells them she has broken the terms of her bail, and Garry says now he has landed her in even more trouble.

Tuesday 24 September 2013
Dani is ready for her “date”, but Garry has to see the probation officer, so asks her to look after Gwern until he returns, as Gwyneth also has to see the same officer.
At the police station, Gwyneth says she had no energy and no control;  it would be simpler without Garry controlling her life, and Gwern’s.   She could not carry on like that – she wanted Garry to realise he did not have all power, but she did not intend to kill anyone;  all she wanted was to get control of their lives, and in prison she will have no control of what happens to Gwern.
Eileen tells Sioned that she and Jim do not want to rush things, and asks Sioned to try and let Courtney down gently;  Sioned jokingly calls her “bridezilla”, getting her bridesmaid to do her dirty work.   Just then, Courtney comes in with dress patterns.   Mark and Colin have to think of a name for their act, and look for suitable clothes at the charity shop, ending up with black and white;  they think they can go on CwmFM and get listeners to suggest a name.
When Garry is interviewed by the probation officer, he says he blames himself;  he drove Gwyneth to do what she did, not intentionally, but he pushed her into it.
He is not surprised she targeted him;  he deserved it, and it is a pity she did not succeed, for them Brandon would still be alive.   He hated her, but did not want Gwern to feel the same hatred;  he was trying to protect Gwern, which he now realises was wrong.
Meanwhile Gwyneth gets home and finds Dani with Gwern, talking about Uncle Brandon, who has now gone.   She rants that she will be the only one to talk about Brandon, and will decide what and when to tell him.   Dani replies, “Meaning nothing and never!   He has a right to know the truth,” but Gwyneth does not want her near him.
Courtney is talking to Sioned about a Christmas wedding, but Sioned warns her they are in no rush to get married;  when Courtney gets home, she puts the pattern books in the bin and goes to do her homework.   Garry comes home and Dani tells him that Gwyneth was displeased, but Gwern has to know the truth, why his mother is in prison;  Garry says she may get away with a suspended sentence, at which Dani is furious:  “A suspended sentence, for killing Brandon?”
Gwyneth talks to her solicitor, asking what is the maximum sentence:  “Life, minimum twelve years;”  not much can be done to minimise the sentence;  she considers the return of the cancer, Gwern’s illness and absconding.   Later she runs after Dani when she comes out of Garry’s, telling her to stay away and stop poisoning her son’s mind.   Dani replies, “I don’t think the person who killed Brandon will be honest about it.   If anyone wants to tell Gwern the truth, there is not much you can do about it – in prison.   He is bound to find out.”
Back at home, Gwyneth tells Gwern, “Mummy has to go away for a long time, but I’ll make sure you’re safe.”

In the Deri, Gwyneth finds Eifion, who has given up hope of seeing Bobi again;  when Garry at the other end of the bar shows Dani a picture of her which Gwern has painted, Gwyneth jumps up, snarls, “I know what your game is – keep out of Gwern’s life!” and walks out.   Sheryl follows her out, and asks what is going on;  Gwyneth explains that Dani is turning Gwern against her, forcing her way into his life and using Garry to do it.   She continues that when she is in prison, Dani will act like a mother to him and turn him against her;  Dani had spoken to him about Brandon, and would do anything to hurt her.   She asks Sheryl how she would face twelve years without Wil, and Sheryl says she would do everything possible to defend her son.
Meanwhile Garry is trying to explain to Dani that the looming sentencing is making Gwyneth oversensitive;   Dani asks if this is a “date” and Garry says, “Gwern might not be the only one who likes your company.”
Rhys performed well at the rugby game, with the opposing coach wanting to sign him, and Hywel says he wants to join the university team.   Rhys wants more tablets, but Dai sees Gerwyn doling them out and “turns a blind eye,” telling them to “be careful.”   When the players get to the Deri, Siôn says he has heard their opponents all use steroids, and that if he were in charge he would suspend anyone caught using them.   Then Dai decides he wants Siôn off the committee, and manages to persuade him to resign;  then he can get Jim, who he regards as easily led, to replace him.
Gwyneth goes to see Garry, telling him what Dani is doing;  he says she is not brainwashing Gwern, but Gwyneth insists she is getting revenge for Brandon’s death.   Garry tells Dani about her allegations, and Dani responds that anyone could tell Gwern the truth.   Garry says that Gwern will be told when he is old enough to understand;  Dani asks when that will be – at 10, or 18?   Dani is convinced that Gwern will never be told, and tells Garry, “At times like this I miss Brandon, because he could talk some sense into you, and I can’t.”
Eifion tries to reassure Gwyneth that Dani is only trying to scare her, but she has convinced herself of Dani’s motives;  “How does it feel to be separated from your child?” she asks, and Eifion replies that it is almost worse than if the child were dead – he is still out there, somewhere.
“Make the most of Gwern, while you still have him,” is Eifion’s advice.

Thursday 26 September 2013
Megan has exciting news to share with Anita and Diane when she rushes into the café;  the late Eirlys Peterson, who lived at Maesglas, has left a bequest to the village in her will.   They have differing ideas what to do with the money, and Debbie wants to get her hands on some of it;  there will be a meeting tonight, where the amount will be announced.   Debbie tells Ricky about it, concluding it must be a fortune.
Gaynor clears up Rhys’s room and finds tablets, syringes and some liquid;  Rhys roughly grabs them from her and leaves for the gym:  she texts for Hywel to come home from the Deri, where he is talking with Dai about “boy wonder”.   The news about the windfall is spread around the village.
When Hywel reaches home, Gaynor is turning the place upside down, looking for more evidence;  she tells him of the steroids and the other things, and that he hurt her wrist as he was not aware of his own strength.   When Rhys returns, his reaction is that he does not care;  Hywel says, “If you had any respect for me, you would not be doing this to yourself.”   Rhys says he needs strength and speed, and when his father warns him of the long-term effects – premature ageing, depression, heart problems, fertility issues – he says he is taking the tablets responsibly.   Hywel says he will have to tell Dai, the club chairman, but Rhys tells him that Dai already knows that most of the team take them, and turns a blind eye.
After all the build-up, the meeting assembles (including Ffion in the back row) and the total sum is revealed to be only £134.50;  this causes some ridicule, but Kevin suggests that there should be a competition for business ideas, so the winner can invest the money.   Rather like Dragon’s Den (or, in Welsh, “Ffleu’r Lewod”, according to Siôn), or “Antur Challenge”, say Anita and Diane.   At the Deri afterwards, Ricky enquires about entering, and Gemma might give it a try;  Meic thinks the judging panel needs three members, and puts himself forward.
When Kevin gets home he is virtually ignored by Debbie and is getting fed up.   Hywel visits Dai, and asks him how long he has known about the steroids in the club;  Dai argues that all the other teams take them, so their club needs to keep up – he is only protecting the club.   Hywel replies he is protecting his son’s health, and that the chairman has to set an example;  they could be thrown out of the league.   Dai warns him to be careful or he will stir up an enormous hornets’ nest.

Friday 27 September 2013
Kevin is excited about the Antur Challenge catching on, but Debbie is completely disinterested;  when he remarks her being so cold towards him, she says she keeps thinking of what he did to Sheryl.   He suggests buying her an eternity ring, and shows her a catalogue, but she tells Angela she wants an expensive one.
At the salon, Sheryl is grumpy, then DS Davies, accompanied by PC Reed come to see Dani;  they need more evidence that Gethin knew about Gwyneth setting the fire.   Dani says there is nothing more she can tell them.   They next go to Gethin and ask him about the memory stick;  he says when he came out of hospital, Gwyneth had thrown all his belongings out, and the box contained mostly his father’s stuff.   The money going into his account was a loan Gwyneth was paying back.
In the Deri, Gemma tells Iolo she is starting a jewellery business;  later in there, Jinx is broadcasting an interview with Mark and Colin, and invites listeners to vote for their name – “Co-Ma-Di” or “Deri Grifwyr.”   When both Colin and Mark secretly vote for their own choice, Jinx exposes them and adds a third choice – “None of the Above.”   In the end, Jinx announces that the result of the popular vote is that the Duo’s new name is “None of the Above.”
Dani rushes round to Gethin’s, to tell him that he knows he is guilty, she knows and the police know;  she wants nothing more to do with him, and thinks now he actually believes his own lies.   When she arrives back at the salon, Sheryl vents her anger that Dani got Gwyneth arrested, and that she intends to tell Gwern what happened, turning him against his mother.   Dani insists that she and Garry are no more than friends, “At least, I can be friends without jumping into bed!” she says.
In the café, Debbie is showing off her expensive ring, and says she could do with a manicure;  Gemma mentions this to Dani, who was thinking she might set up Dani Dwylo (Dani’s Hands) to offer cheap manicures.   However, when Sheryl walks in on Dani’s treatment of Debbie in the salon, she demands that the money go in the till, despite Dani using her own materials in her lunch-hour.   That sort of activity would break the terms of the flat lease, she says, and Dani asks, “Where’s your community spirit, Sher?” to which Sheryl replies, “The same place as your conscience!” and promptly tells Dani she does not want her working there.
Angela visits Debbie and is shown the new ring;  she is nevertheless informed that nothing has changed.   “No ring can make up for the way I’ve been hurt!   I deserve something from this marriage!   I want to be happy and make sure that I don’t leave with nothing!”

Monday 30 September 2013
Siôn has heard no news from the police, but Garry says no news is good news;  Britt knows how to hide from the police.   Hywel tells Rhys there are better ways to build up the body, but Rhys is not interested;  his father lists the side-effects and says it merits a 4-year suspension from rugby.   When Hywel sees Angela in the shop, he asks her to have a word, but Rhys dismisses it as “recycled medical information”, and says he thinks the risk is worth taking;  in any case it is his life, and he will do as he pleases.
Marian comes out of the salon and informs Garry that Dani has been sacked, adding that Siôn should be ashamed of himself for harbouring a murderer;  Siôn agrees that he is a disgrace to Bethania.   Colin collects his share of the challenge money, which only amounts to £8.90, for use in his “Col’s Trees” firewood enterprise.
Garry goes to Dani’s and is told about the sacking, as Sheryl took Gwyneth’s side in the dispute, so he goes straight to Sheryl, who argues that Dani is simply using him to get to Gwern, with the intention of ruining his relationship with his mother.   She tells Garry of the anguish Gwyneth is going through, and how he has to choose between Gwern and Dani.   Then he goes to tell Gwyneth that he will ensure there is no contact between Dani and Gwern.
Colin is not managing to sell any firewood, until Anwen agrees to purchase in the Deri;  Sheryl is in there, agreeing to keep an eye on Gwern while Gwyneth is inside.   Siôn is feeling very depressed, having lost the confidence of the community, while Garry has a whisky to give him dutch courage.   He goes to Dani’s and tells her straight, “I don’t want you near Gwern again.   I am not going to sacrifice Gwern for your sake.
Dani replies, “If I could change one thing about my life, it wouldn’t be losing Brandon, or anything to do with Gethin.   I wish my parents had been honest with me;  there were so many lies, I still don’t know what true.”   She pleads with Garry to be honest with Gwern, as children know when their parents are lying – that does not give them stability.   “You can’t protect him from the truth – he will find out and realise you deceived him;  he won’t trust you again, or anyone else.”
Unconvinced, Garry warns her, “Stay away from Gwern – and me!”
