August 2013

Thursday 1 August 2013
Dani runs to Gethin’s and bangs on the door;  by the time he struggles to open it, she is walking off along the street.   She helps him to the sofa, and wants to call the police, but Gethin tells her she must warn Sheryl;  but Sheryl’s phone is in the car, while they stroll on the grass.   Dani then tries contacting Anita, without success, and Gethin is sure that, by the time they find him, he will have had his way with Wil.   Sheryl is eager to get to the airport and away, then as they get back in the car, Moc tells them he is coming with them, to Boston in America!
Diane and Anita are thrown out of the hotel for stealing the drink, and blame each other as they wait for a taxi;  when they arrive back at Moc’s house, Dani tells them what has happened, but Anita will not believe her, until she finds the locks have been changed and her clothes are in bin bags outside.   Britt and Garry are having dinner, and while Britt’s back is turned, he slips off home.
Sheryl is very worried when she finds the flight is not until tomorrow, and they have to spend the night at the airport hotel.   Despite Moc’s reassurances that Garry will not find her, she says, “I know the Monks!”
Meanwhile, Garry enters the flat, finds Sheryl is not there, and pinned to the wedding dress is an envelope, containing the ring and a note, in which Sheryl tells him, “I can’t marry you;  I can’t live without my freedom;  I’ve taken Wil away.”   He looks absolutely devastated.
By this time, Anita is at Diane’s, where Dai concludes that Moc has taken Anita’s money with him;  he says this Menter Cwmderi business was simply a scam to get hold of money, and causes Diane some anguish, as she lent him “a few thousand” as well.
Dani tries to assure Gethin that Sheryl will look after Wil, but Gethin answers, “Like Wendy looked after me?”   Then Dani does call the police.
At the airport, Wil wants a pizza, and Sheryl leaves him alone with Moc while she gets it;  on the way Dani manages to speak to her on the phone, and says that Moc told Gethin he is after Wil, so get back to him immediately.   In a frenzy, she hurries back to the room, bursting in as Moc is stroking Wil’s hair again, and shouts, “Don’t touch him!   Get out now, Wil!”   She tells Moc she has spoken to Dani, and knows that he was going to do to Wil what he did to Gethin.   She warns him not to touch her, “You used me and Anita to get close to Wil!”
Out in the corridor, Wil tells her that Moc “only looked after me;”  she rings the police.   The camera pans around the hotel room;  it is just as it was, except for Moc not being there, and through the open window comes the sound of an approaching police siren.

Friday 2 August 2013
Dai says he knows why Diane does not want to move – her money is gone, and Anita’s and probably other people’s;  when Anita says she cannot contact Moc, Dai replies, “What a surprise!”   Anita says she is leaving, and soon Meic opens the door to her;  he says it is not convenient for her to stay there, as Sheryl and Wil are there.   She continues to insist that Moc would not do something like that, but Sheryl says the only thing he saw in Anita was a way to get close to Wil.   Meic tells Anita that they are staying, as he, unlike her, cares about them, and asks her to leave.
Garry opens the garage, and tears up the plane ticket;  Britt comes in, is told the wedding is off and reads the note Sheryl left.   She dashes off to try and find where Sheryl is, meeting Anita, who tells her, so she reports back to Garry.   He says he does not care where she is, only that she does not want to marry him.
Diane looks at the legal agreement, that she jointly owns the lease on the bank building with Anita, who reappears at the door, and is given a letter that arrived from Moc.   This seems to suggest that he will contact Anita when he has found somewhere to live, but Diane tries to convince her she has seen the last of him.
Dani and Sheryl were telling the truth about what happened.   Sheryl visits Gethin and hugs him.   Later in the salon she thanks Dani for all that she and Gethin did, then Garry arrives, begging to know what he did wrong, so he can change it.
Sheryl tells him she does not want marriage, or him;  she wants to learn to stand on her own two feet;  they bring out the worst in each other, and she says, “I can’t love you.”   Dejectedly, Garry turns and leaves.
Gethin receives a text – “Sori.”   He tells Iolo, “The same old word – sorry – as if it makes everything right!”   Dani also receives the same message, and deletes it.   Sheryl, on the sofa at Meic’s, similarly gets one;  she tells Meic that she has been such a fool, not believing those who warned her and putting Wil in danger.   She hopes Wil can forgive her, as she cannot forgive herself;  she breaks down in tears.   Anita still cannot contact Moc;  she throws down the engagement ring and sobs bitterly.   Meanwhile, Garry tenderly and painstakingly folds up the wedding dress, and replaces it in its bag.

Monday 5 August 2013
In the salon, Dani urges Sheryl to take Wil to the police, but she refuses, saying he has been through enough;  now Moc has gone, they must get on with their lives.   Iolo tells Gethin to focus on the positives, but Gethin responds that there are none;  Moc has got away again, without being punished.   Later, he phones the police, saying he has evidence against Moc Thomas.
Dani cannot face Gethin, and Sheryl tells her she cannot just fall into Garry’s arms again.   Then she gets a call from Gethin, wanting to see her;  as soon as she is gone, Garry phones Dani, wanting to meet her in the Deri.
Gethin tells Sheryl that he has spoken to the police and they want to interview him;  he wants her and Wil to come too, but Sheryl flatly refuses   Gethin says he will make sure Moc is caught, even without her help.   Then Garry, who is passing, tells her she should take Wil to the police, to stop Moc grooming another child.
Gethin is being interviewed by DS Sophie Fielding, and the interview ends at 3:55pm;  the DS says if Sheryl will not let them talk to Wil, they cannot do anything about it, but Gethin begs her not to let Moc get away with it – he has lived with it for twenty years.
Back at the salon, Dani accuses Sheryl of being all, “me, me, me,” and after Sheryl says she does not want to put Wil through any more, Dani goes to meet Garry;  Sheryl phones DS Fielding.   In the Deri, Garry says that Britt is away at the Eisteddfod for a week, and Dani is angry at the mess, caused by Moc, who is enjoying himself somewhere.   Garry urges her to go and see Gethin;  he knows what he is talking about, and Gethin needs a friend, the sooner, the better.
When Gethin gets home, he tells Iolo that the police will not find Moc;  false hope is worse than no hope.   Sheryl is at the police station, where DS Fielding assures her that trained officers will talk to Wil, and that he will come to no harm, so Sheryl agrees to bring him tomorrow.   Starting at 6:00pm, she is interviewed about her dealings with Moc.   Dani goes to Gethin’s, so sorry for what she said to Moc, causing Gethin’s injuries, but pleads that Dad should not ruin them as well;  she will come over more often, and they hug.
Sheryl goes to Garry’s flat to tell him that she has been to the police, and Wil is going tomorrow;  she did not really intend to run off with Moc.   Garry is not interested in what she has to say;  “You ran away the night before our wedding – how do you expect me to feel?   Please, get out!”   She tries to touch him, but he jumps up and says, “ I have nothing left to give you, Sher!”   He picks up the bracelet that he found earlier and puts it into her hand.   “I don’t want anything to do with you any more;  you broke my heart!   Get out!”

Tuesday 6 August 2013
Jinx takes a borrowed book back to Gwyneth, and remarks on the news about Moc beating up Gethin;  Gwyneth feels guilty about throwing his stuff out, while he was in hospital, so Jinx says, “Go and tell him.”   When she goes there, Gethin knows precisely what she wants to say, but then admits he has made her life hell, too, so now they are quits.
At school, Gaynor tells Mark that they are restructuring, and he has to apply for his own job – the interview is on Friday;  he is very disturbed.   Jim is in the shop, telling Eileen that Sion and Britt are not taking the break-in any further, then Colin asks Anita if Moc has been caught, and she says it is nothing to do with her.   Next, Gaynor comes in and asks Colin if he will be contributing to Lois’s costs at university, which troubles him.
Anita is looking in the estate agent’s window when Gwyneth tells her she has been to see Gethin, and she feels much better, so Anita should, too.   Sioned is still in her pyjamas and watching tv;  Eileen suggests going out for a walk, and says she is neglecting her business, but Sioned storms off.   So Eileen marches round to the Deri and demands that Ed give Sioned her job back;  when he protests that he did ask her , but she refused, Eileen starts shouting about “unfair dismissal” and that it could bring unwelcome publicity to the Deri.
When Mark tells Colin he is in danger of losing his job, Colin wonders if a caretaker’s hours would fit in with his shop shifts, but soon realises he could never work with Gaynor — being married to her was bad enough.
Gethin knows exactly why Anita has come, and tells her that but for her, Moc’s plan would not have worked;  she believed all his lies, and now thinks she, like everyone else, can waltz in there and clear their consciences.   “I don’t forgive anyone.   Now get out!” he snarls.
Colin is giving Mark some interview practice, and says he has done very well;  Mark suggests that Colin is talented as an impressionist.
Jim says that Eileen put on quite a performance at the Deri, but they must try and work together, and then Sioned will be all right.   Sioned is by now at the Deri, waiting for a taxi to Swansea, and Ed offers her the job again, to which she replies, “Stuff your job!”   When Eileen comes in, with Jim, Gwynfor jokes, “Ding ding, round two!”   Hearing that she has refused the offer again, Eileen approaches Sioned, who insists, “I don’t want to work for him, and I don’t want your help!” She tells her mother that she is going to Swansea, where she is treated as a normal person, and walks out of the pub.

Thursday 8 August 2013
Cadno is counting her birthday money in a tin on the shelf;  she asks when this nonsense is going to end.   Eifion replies that she banished him to the shed, and says he is working all hours for Bobi, then storms out;  Cadno arranges to meet Gwyneth.
As Dai is measuring up the boarded-up bank building, Hywel says they need more rugby players, and as Ed passes, they try to get him to join, but he says he is much too busy.   Cadno and Gwyneth chat in the café, as Bobi is tucking in to his food;  Gwyneth insists that Cadno come to her flat for some head massage.   This makes Cadno feel more serene, and they arrange to have a meal in the Deri later.
Angela visits Sioned, who says she feels “like death”, immediately diagnosing the problem as a hangover, which her liver cannot cope with.   At the café Gemma tells Dani that Ed has given her some some trial shifts at the Deri;  Dani says that she just wants Moc out her life, but does get lonely sometimes.
When Cadno gets back to the farm, she asks Eifion to babysit while she goes out, and he reluctantly agrees.   Gemma tells Ed that Dani is putting on a brave face, and could do with a friend;  meanwhile, Hywel is in the bar trying to convince Dai to be subtle about persuading Ed to change his mind.   Ed assures Dani of his support, Cadno and Gwyneth arrive, and find Eifion busy, chatting up a girl by the name of Kim on the sofa;  Cadno reminds him he should be babysitting, but he says he cannot, and she has to go back home, to relieve Marian.
Angela has again visited Sioned, who tells her that everyone looks at her as though she is dirty;  Angela says the problem is in her head – she should get out and mix with people more, and takes her to the Deri, ordering tonic, without the gin.   Much to Hywel’s dismay, Dai, unsubtly, blurts out to Ed that the rugby club is desperate for Ed to join them;  Sioned wades in, saying , “He’s not young or fit, except to sack people!”   This angers Ed, who promptly agrees to join the club, “All right, I’ll play!”
Cadno is ready for bed when Eifion returns, with Kim, and announces he will be using a bedroom, to which Cadno replies that she hopes Kim is not noisy, as there will be a baby one side and an old woman the other.   Kim finds this rather offputting and leaves.   “Oh dear,” says Cadno, “back to your shed now,” and goes to bed.   Eifion goes to the kitchen shelf , opens the tin and removes the money.

Saturday 10 August 2013 (1st) — 19:50
Dai is asleep when Anita comes in;  Diane is at Glenys’s, and he was hoping for some peace, but he goes off to APD.   Garry walks past the salon, and Sheryl comes out to tell him Wil has been to the police, but he is uninterested.
Anita comes into the Deri and starts telling her troubles to Ffion, how Gethin hates her and everyone has turned against her, she is on her own and has lost everything.   Ffion tells her that people will soon forgive and forget.   When Dai comes in and accuses her of following him, Anita promises to cook him rack of lamb for dinner.
Sheryl bemoans her lot to Dani:  she is stuck in Meic’s house, everyone thinks she is a bad mother, and Garry will not talk to her.   Dani reminds her that she did run away, then Ed pops in to ask if Dani can do a shift in the Deri, while he is at rugby training.   Later, Dani is having a coffee out on the bench when Garry joins her;  “Escaped from Sheryl?” he asks.   Dani says that when Moc came back she was happy, but he has destroyed so many lives.   Garry assures her that everyone will get over it in time, even Gethin, and that for him to get married would have been a mistake;  it was better it happened before the wedding than after.   Sheryl sees them, and warns Dani she does not want her talking to Garry;  Dani replies she will talk to whoever she likes.
Ed enjoys himself, making a good impression on the rugby field, and after the training, an anonymous player offers him steroids, telling him they all take them as they make them stronger and faster.
To Dani behind the bar, Gwynfor says his pint is “Almost as perfect as you!”   Sheryl comes in to apologise to Dani, who tells her what Garry said about it being a mistake for him to marry.   Hywel welcomes Ed to the club, but Ed is uncomfortable with the player who offered the steroids watching him.   Garry comes in and remarks that, “Ed needs his head read, playing rugby at his age!”   He laughs and jokes with Dani, making Sheryl suspect that something is going on between them, so she half-heartedly chats up Ed, but then leaves.
Anita serves Dai a sumptuous meal, with wine, but then, fuelled by too much alcohol, goes on about how she appreciates her friends when she is so depressed and feels like a fool.   He tells her she must move on and keep busy with her plans for the bank, but she insists she needs to grieve, at which point he feigns a headache and goes to bed.   Shortly afterwards, Anita enters his bedroom, even more drunk, crying that she has made such a mess of things;  when Dai assures her he does not hate her, she tries to hug him, falls on top of him and rolls off, fast asleep.   Disgusted, Dai removes her shoes, throws a blanket over her and finds another bedroom.

Saturday 10 August 2013 (2nd) — 20:15
Anita eventually wakes up and realises where she is.   Meic asks Kevin if he can change some shifts in the café, so he can look after Wil.   “Does he do everything she tells him?” demands Debbie,  “Do you think it’s right, him giving her a place to live?”   Downstairs in the café Colin is trying his hopeless impressions on Dai, and then Kevin;  Mark is going for his interview, and Colin advises him to be confident.   As Gaynor is off to join the panel, she reminds Hywel that Lois and Rhys are back next week, then soon they will be off to university.   Dai gets home to find Anita with a hangover, and no recollection of last night;  “Did I make a fool of myself,” she asks, and he says she did, and under the circumstances she cannot really stay there.   She agrees, and apologises again;  Dai smiles, having managed to get rid of her.
The interview panel, consisting of three silent people and Gaynor, face Mark, who tells them that he needs new equipment to do his job, but as the whole idea is to save money, of course he does not get the job.   Later he is amazed when Gaynor gives him the bad news — “After all these years?” he says, and Gaynor says it is not her decision.   When Diane returns from Glenys’s, she is given tea and slippers, and the news that Anita has gone;  Dai warns her not to contact Anita, as she is trying to sort herself out.
Debbie has another go at Kevin, saying that Meic is publicly humiliating him by letting Sheryl stay there, and eventually drags Kevin round to his house.   With Debbie’s prompting, he tells his father he does not think it is right, and Debbie taunts Sheryl with, “You look at home — what lies have you told Meic?”
Meic replies, “Sheryl has been hard done by and is not going anywhere.   They can stay as long as they want!”   True to form, Debbie snarls, “You decision is nuts!   Tell him, Kevin!” but Kevin simply turns to go, and Debbie shouts that Meic has not heard the last of this.
Gaynor, who is worried about Mark, and Hywel go to the Deri.   Colin manages to persuade Ed to let him do impressions in a couple of weeks.   When Mark comes in he assumes Gaynor is celebrating the new appointment.   “Who got the job?   A kid, straight out of school, as he is cheaper?   You can stuff your job!”   He admits to Colin he has no idea what he will do.
Debbie at home is brooding, and when Kevin suggests watching a film, she stalks out, slamming the door.   Sheryl again thanks Meic for letting her stay;  he tells her, “You’ve made some unwise decisions, but you have also been treated badly.   While you and Wil are under the same roof as me, you’ll be safe, I promise you.”

Monday 12 August 2013
Gaynor is cleaning the house for the return of Lois and Rhys;  Hywel says they won’t even notice.   Then she goes to buy some flowers.
Gethin is insistent that Iolo make him a cup of tea, but Iolo has to go and price a plumbing job;  on the way he sees Britt and reports he wants to get Gethin out of the house, as he is unbearable;  he asks Britt to go and see him.
Gethin, trying to stand, hears the door open and assumes it is Iolo, so demands tea.   Britt says, “So that’s how you talk to Iolo.”   She tells him that now everyone believes his story, although he did change it;  it takes guts to stand up for the truth.
While Gaynor is at the shop, she meets Mark, who blames her for his lost job, but she repeats it was not her decision.   When she mentions Lois and her travels, he says that Ricky will not be getting a holiday this year.   He phones for a job, then visits APD, but there is no work there;  then Britt comes in for some screws for a flat-pack cupboard.   When she hears about Mark’s job, she asks him to help her with the assembly and promises him lunch.
Lois and Rhys arrive, and when Gaynor returns they surprise her.   Postman John delivers a long parcel to Gethin, and Iolo helps him take it in;  it is a long blue roll, a rehabilitation device for balancing upon, and Iolo demonstrates.   He says he has been looking at putting a heating system in a new block of flats for people who need support — would Gethin be interested?   “You’re not getting rid of me that easily!” is his response, and Iolo says he is welcome to stay as long as he wants.
Mark, laying out all the parts of the cupboard, says, “I am used to doing a bit of everything, well, I was.”   He felt that he was part of school life, and that he belonged.   Britt agrees that Gaynor looks down her nose at people like them.   When he is finished they have a meal of sausage and chips, and Mark thanks Britt for her consideration.
Lois and Rhys have given their presents and are looking at their photos of various European cities.   Gaynor comments that they look very close, and is perturbed when Lois touches Rhys’ arm, not accepting Lois’ reply that they are “good friends”.   She says she does not want Lois getting hurt;  Lois assures her that nothing has happened – “Just trust me.”   When they go out of the room, Gaynor sneaks a look at more of the photographs on the laptop.

Tuesday 13 August 2013
Cadno is feeding Bobi when Eifion announces he has bought the ram, which they could not afford, by using Cadno’s birthday savings;   she is furious, but he goes off to rugby training.
At the Deri, Ed instructs Dani what to do before he also leaves for training;  then Rhys and Lois come in, and Dani remarks that they look close, but says that boys are always slow on the uptake.
Cadno arrives at Gwyneth’s, in tears and unable to take any more of Eifion;  she tells Gwyneth about the birthday money and the woman Eifion brought home.   She had tried really hard to rebuild the relationship, but he turns on her or ignores her.   She wants someone to hold her and treat her with respect.
Sheryl comes into the Deri and tells Dani that life with Meic is boring;  meanwhile Rhys and Lois are talking, and Lois is worried about her history result, when Rachel arrives, having seen Rhys’s tweet.   She proceeds to monopolise Rhys, who then tends to dismiss Lois, so she eventually decides to leave.   Dani chases after her, and advises her to fight back, although Lois says they were not a couple, but merely had a baby together.
Cadno tells Gwyneth that if it had not been for the farm, she would have left long ago, and Gwyneth says that either she should go, she should make him go, or else sell the farm.   If she needs to get away, she can always stay at Gwyneth’s.   In the Deri the players come in after practice, with Eifion showing off about his performance and belittling Ed;  then Eifion beats him twice at arm-wrestling.   The big rugby-player from last week reminds Ed of the availability of steroids.   When Lois returns, she “accidentally” bumps the table, spilling Rachel’s drink into her lap, and saying, “Oops!”
Gwyneth gives Cadno a present for her birthday, a locket, and Cadno kisses her;  a longer kiss follows, and Cadno says, “I can’t remember the last time someone kissed me like that!”   Then she jumps up to leave, hugging Gwyneth as she is so lonely.   Ed is embarrassed by being humiliated by Eifion, but Dani tells him, “You’re more of a man that Eifion will ever be.”   He almost phones the steroid supplier.
As Eifion comes out of the Deri, Cadno is pushing Bobi back to the car, and he asks if he can have a lift, and if she has calmed down.   She agrees, looks longingly at Gwyneth’s house, and smiles conspiratorially.

Wednesday 14 August 2013
As the salon closes, Sheryl finds a letter for Dani;  it is from Moc in Thailand and simply said he was sorry and wants forgiving, again.   Sheryl says Dani will have to take it to the police.   Meic is worried about Anita and keeps phoning her;  she keeps ignoring it.   When he mentions this to Dai, he says he would ignore a call from Meic, too.
Meanwhile Anita is alone in a B&B room, drinking;  eventually she goes out to a clothes shop, has another call from Meic and inadvertently walks out of the shop with a dress.   The assistant calls the police, who let her off with a warning;  Meic comes to collect her and take her home.
Dani goes to Gethin’s, and as she owes him some money, he looks in her handbag and finds the letter;  he is hurt that there is no mention of him.   Dani urges him not to let Moc come between them again, and that the letter must go to the police.
Ed is exercising desperately, and decides to ring big Gerwyn about the steroids.   As Garry and Sheryl are talking in the Deri, Gerwyn comes in and gives Ed a water-bottle, which he says Ed left at training;  out of sight he says that he has plenty more tablets.   Garry makes disparaging remarks about playing rugby at Ed’s age.
When Dani arrives at the Deri for her shift, Gethin phones her to tell her Interpol are now involved, and she warns him not to get his hopes up or to expect too much;  they cannot always live in Moc’s shadow.   She tells Ed what has happened, and that she thought that she had put Moc behind her.   Iolo shows Gethin a card for what Gethin describes as “a shrink”, and says he needs to share his problems with someone who can help.
Dai sees Meic and Anita return and tells Sheryl, who is not happy that she is back, but Meic attempts to calm the situation.   He cannot turn his back on Anita, and they will have to learn to live together.   Dani says she must hurry home, and kisses Ed;  as she leaves he surveys the bottle of tablets with a puzzled look.

Thursday 15 August 2013
Gaynor at school looks at Lois’ results – A, A & B;  meanwhile, Lois is at home, worrying and trying to contact her mother.   Gaynor talks (in English) to the first choice University, as Lois just missed out on the required grades.   Rhys, on the other hand, phones Hywel to announce, “Your son’s a genius! – grades A, B & D.
Gethin is waiting by his door, and Karen, the psychologist arrives;  she is there to listen, and assures him that talking does help.   Gethin explains that he feels nervous, awkward and angry;  he cannot bring himself to call Moc, “Dad”, since he remembered what he did.
When Gaynor rings Lois, she skirts round the issue of only getting a B in history, and says Lois might get into her first choice.   At school, Rachel is overjoyed at getting A, A & B, attributing her A in maths to the tuition she was given by Macs;  now she can study Economics at Swansea.   Rhys says, “Typical, Lois didn’t get an A in history, the one she needed,” and Rachel smirks as she sends a text to Lois, saying, “You’re so unlucky!”   At home, Lois tells her mother, “I’ve ruined everything!”
Gethin tells Karen about Moc hitting him and mocking his inability to walk;  if he were here, Gethin would show that he is getting stronger and is going to walk again.   He slowly manages to stand, unaided, and Karen says it is good he is so determined.   He would like another session next week;  then Iolo arrives home, and enquires how it went.   Gethin tells him not to interfere;  “There’s a reason you’re looking after me – we’re not friends.”
When Gaynor blames herself for Lois’ result, Hywel reminds her that she managed better grades than Rhys;  “But he didn’t try for one of the country’s top universities!” she brags.   Hywel says she will go to her second choice, so it is not the end of the world.   Lois bemoans the fact that she learned her notes so well, but did not succeed, and when Gaynor encourages her to go to the Deri with the others, she replies, “Stop telling me what to do!   Until I know that I got a place, I’m not going anywhere.”
Rhys arrives at the Deri, closely followed by Rachel, who reveals that the rest of the students have gone to town, but she fancied a quiet drink, which he buys her.

Friday 16 August 2013
Eifion is shocked when he walks in and finds Cadno packing;  she says she is going away with Bobi until the baby comes, but will not tell him where.   She will come back when the baby has arrived, and contrary to his expectations, she maintains that he will then be looking for somewhere else to live.   When she says she kept the farm going while he chased women, he replies, “Look in the mirror and you’ll see why!”   She insists she is not letting him hurt her any more.   She will not be there when he comes back, but he shouts that even she is not stupid enough to leave;  after he storms out, Marian tells Cadno that she has been more patient with him than anyone else would have been.
“If you don’t go now, you never will,” she says, and hugs Cadno.   Soon the taxi arrives, and with several wistful glances at Penrhewl, Cadno and Bobi (who is walking) leave.
Over the breakfast table, Lois is still depressed;  Rhys comes downstairs with a hangover, followed by Rachel, who is excited at getting into her choice of university, and Lois walks out.   Rachel smiles at Hywel.   When he has gone, after  being on the receiving end of Gaynor’s wrath at Rhys sleeping with Rachel, Gaynor tries to comfort Lois.
Marian puts Eifion in his place;  “She’s gone and I don’t blame her!   You think you’re quite a man, but you’re like a little boy, blaming everyone but yourself.   You have treated her badly — shame on you!”
Lois has a phone call, explaining that she missed her place by two marks, and bemoans her bad luck;  last time she was pregnant with Gwen, and now she has missed out again.   Rhys does what he wants, and she is at a standstill;  she looks at pictures of Gwen and hopes that the child will forgive her.   Hywel returns and Rachel thinks it is time she went, followed by Rhys, but first she kisses Hywel, which rather surprises him.   Lois thinks it is better not to go to university at all than to settle for second best, and she will be the one to decide.
Cadno calls at Gwyneth’s, to thank her for the support, and while she is there gets a call from Eifion, who immediately jumps in the Land Rover and hurries to the village.   He arrives just as they are about to get back into the taxi, and he begs to hold Bobi one more time;  he is in tears as he puts Bobi in the back seat.   Then he tells Cadno, “I agree we have no future!   You are old before your time — just looking at you makes me sick!   The only way I’m leaving Penrhewl is in a box!”
Cadno calmly replies, “We’ll see, shall we?”   Gwyneth watches as the taxi drives away, then shuts her front door.

Monday 19 August 2013
Eifion is alone and distraught at home;  he dials Cadno’s phone and leave a message that he will never leave Penrhewl;  if she does not bring Bobi home, he will come looking for her.
Iolo goes off to do some work at Meic’s, and Gwyneth goes over to see Gethin;  just as she arrives, two heavies burst in and demand payment of a £25,000 debt in the name of Gethin Thomas.   Gwyneth hurries off to find Iolo, and when he returns, he threatens the intruders with the police;  they leave, promising to be back.   When he realises that this debt, to “Lend & Spend Loans” was taken out on 15 March, when he was in hospital, Gethin is convinced that this is Moc’s doing, but Iolo says they need evidence.
Things are fraught at Meic’s between Anita and Sheryl, with Wil upset too;  Meic agrees to look after him, and Sheryl will look for a flat – she cannot continue to live there.   Gethin comes in, making accusations about Moc and suspecting that Anita was in on it;  voices are raised and eventually Meic orders Gethin out.    Anita says, “Moc’s gone, but he’s still here!” and Meic tells her that Gethin has “lost it”;  later, looking at a photo of Denzil, says, “How did it come to this, Denz?”
Eifion visits Gwyneth, blaming her for Cadno’s leaving, saying she has poisoned Cadno against him.   Gwyneth simply says, “You think she wants you after the way you treated her?   You stole money, brought women home, slept with Sioned!   Even if I knew where she was, I wouldn’t tell you!   You’re not fit to be a partner or a father.”
Iolo has reported the matter to the police, and as he leaves, Gwyneth arrives and confesses to Gethin that she took out the loan.   He cannot believe why she would do that.   She says she was in debt because of his blackmailing her, and Gethin concludes that he will be in debt for the rest of his life unless she confesses;  she says that would mean she went to jail, but Gethin warns, “You’ll go to jail anyway, if I tell the police about the fire.”   Her response is, “And what if I tell them about the blackmail?”   She says if they share the debt, she will pay off her half each month;  he reluctantly agrees to this stalemate.
Meic is concerned about Wil, who is withdrawn and quiet.   When he senses that all this is about Moc, Meic reassures him that Gethin is angry because he has been though a lot lately, and is not thinking straight.   Mam-gu has not done anything wrong.
Back at home, Eifion finds one of Bobi’s teddies;  he leaves another message on Cadno’s phone;  “I’ve just moved back into our room.   When you come back, you can find somewhere else to sleep.”

Tuesday 20 August 2013
Ed is back from a run and finds that he is low on steroids, so phones Gerwyn for more.   Dani visits Iolo as he is putting out the washing;  they agree they must continue to support Gethin, but Dani will not do Iolo’s ironing.
Gaynor tells Hywel she cannot understand why Lois will not go to university, then Lois enters, closely followed by Rhys and (much to Gaynor’s disgust) Rachel.   After they have left, Gaynor says that Rachel has Rhys and Hywel “in a trance;”  later she tells Lois that she has been looking at the UCAS website, but Lois stresses that she has cancelled her university place – she is not going.   Hywel tells Gaynor that she cannot force Lois to go, and that she is a sensible girl.
In the Deri, Ed has just been told by Ows that he is going to the dentist, but Dani says she will do a shift behind the bar to cover for him;  Ed is very grateful, but Garry is concerned that they appear to be getting close.
Mark’s boiler is not working, so Iolo patches it up temporarily;  Mark is worried about the money situation.   When Iolo goes to the Deri, he tells Garry about the “so-called bailiffs” after Gethin, and Garry offers his help.   Mark joins them, and sees that John the postman has been promoted to management, and they need a new postman;  after some encouragement, Mark applies for the job.
Then all the rugby players arrive, also Gaynor, who is horrified when Hywel tells her what Rhys has just decided – that he will live at home while he is at university.   She is not looking forward to Lois, Rhys and Rachel all being there;  “Great – a houseful of kids!” she says.
Ed returns to the Deri with a girl in tow;  he tries to impress her with some kind of drinking contest, and Garry remarks that he is looking pleased with himself.   When she pops to the loo, Gerwyn goes out the back with Ed, rousing Garry’s suspicions.
At home, Rachel says that Lois is doing the right thing, “If you don’t want to go, there’s no point,” and then drops the bombshell that Rhys will be living at home,  and she will be half an hour away, so she can see him any time she wants.
Garry asks Ed, “What’s your game?   Whatever it is, keep Dani out of it!”   Realising that Garry fancies her, Ed tells him he had better leave, “unless you want to settle this outside.”   He smiles at the girl, impressing her with his big talk.

Wednesday 21 August 2013
Next morning, Ed opens the door of the Deri, and the girl leaves.   Mark has a phone call, inviting him for an interview on Friday at noon;  Ricky says if they had a look at John’s round it might help Mark’s chances.
Dani walks across from the salon, and asks Ed if he wants to join Gemma and her for a meal tonight;  when he agrees, she rings Gemma. saying she wants the flat to herself tonight.   Hywel is cooking breakfast when Rhys tells him that Ed makes rugby look so simple;  Hywel says that he does a lot of training.   When Rhys looks forward to training like that when he is living at home, Gaynor does not look at all pleased, then Lois comes in and says she will not be going to Cian’s party.
Dani asks Gwen in the café for hints on how to cook a casserole.   Lois thinks she might go on a hairdressing course, and will talk to Dani about it;  Gaynor says it must be awkward for her, with Rhys and Rachel together – it might be better if she went to university, but Lois accuses her of just wanting her own way.
Walking the postman’s route and consulting the map, Mark and Ricky pass a local man, then Mark trips over the protruding tow-bar of his trailer;  as they walk away, the man makes a phone call.   When Hywel returns from his run, Gaynor continues about the problems with Lois;  he simply says that Rhys is happy with Rachel, and Lois will get over it.
Dani is not having much success with the cooking when Lois arrives and helps her out;  when Lois reveals she is not going to university, Dani says that she had little education, and Lois should not throw her chances away because she is scared.   Ed arrives for the meal, and Lois leaves;  Dani makes an excuse that Gemma forgot her Pilates class.   When Lois gets home, and Gaynor tells her that she will support whatever decision Lois takes, she picks up the UCAS brochure.
A PCSO approaches Mark and Ricky, saying that the man suspected the pair of looking for somewhere to burgle;  when they explain what they were doing, and point out that his trailer is a danger on the pavement, she goes to talk to him.
Ed enjoys his meal, and says that his fitness makes him feel positive, the first time since parting with Angela;  Dani also feels that now she can start again, but neither of them want a serious relationship.   She wants some fun, “not a clingy boyfriend she can’t get rid of;  we should enjoy ourselves.”   After a couple of kisses, they disappear through the bedroom door.

Thursday 22 August 2013
Dani rings Ed to say she enjoyed last night.   Things are still strained at Meic’s, and Sheryl leaves for the salon as soon as Anita comes downstairs.   In the café, Gwyneth receives a text from Cadno:  “We’re fine thanks for everything.”   When Britt remarks how it is strange that Cadno has gone, Gwyneth agrees, looking guilty.   When Sheryl gets to the salon, she asks Dani about her date, and hears that they are taking it slow, casual and enjoying themselves.
Garry visits Gwyneth, and says that if it had not been Moc, something else would have spoiled things;  she admits to Garry that she took out a loan in Gethin’s name, and the bailiffs have been round;  he is not convinced that “things have been sorted”, but warns her that she is playing a dangerous game.   As he leaves, he sees Dani thanking Ed for last night and kissing him.
Meic visits the salon as he wants to take Wil bowling, and apologises for Anita, who is depressed;  “Some us us are too busy living to be depressed,” is Sheryl’s response.   When Dani says she is feeling “great,” Britt wants to know, “Who is he?”  she reveals in confidence that it is Ed, but says she has not forgotten Brandon.
Eifion bursts into the salon, desperate as Cadno has not been in touch, and now he realises what a fool he has been;  Gwyneth gives him no comfort, but Eifion begs her to help him get them back.   He says Cadno was always too good for him, and that he is not to be trusted, but he still reckons he can change.   Gwyneth takes him home for some tomato soup,  and also admits they they kissed, which inflames Eifion again, saying that Gwyneth stole Cadno from him.   She says that he must stop blaming everyone else;  he drove Cadno away.
Meic gets chips from the shop and tells Britt that it is not easy at home;  Anita simply fell in love with the wrong person, and he cannot desert Wil.   Britt condemns Sheryl, saying it is her own fault for always wanting something better, and tells Meic that he is too good, sometimes.   In front of Dani in the Deri, Garry asks Ed, “What were you up to with that bloke the other night?” and when told it is not his business, Garry responds, “It is, when you’re not being straight with my friends!”   Dani tells him to go, and he retires to the garage, where the punchbag gets another hammering.

Friday 23 August 2013
Over the breakfast table, Lois announces that she has secured a place at Cardiff University, studying Welsh;  this causes much surprise, but afterwards Gaynor complains to Hywel that she should have been consulted.   Hywel replies that she is never satisfied, and she should be proud of Lois;  they agree on a celebration meal at the Lion, but Gaynor wants Rachel excluded, to which Rhys objects vehemently.
Britt is in a bad mood in the café when Dai complains about Mark, all dressed up for his interview, saying he does not trust him with the post.   Britt goes to the salon, taunting Sheryl about being “Moc’s leftovers”, and asking if Garry was not good enough;  Sheryl replies that Garry was trying to run her life, but Britt snarls that he just wanted a family to love, at which point Sheryl tells her to leave.   As she goes, Britt says, “Garry may have forgiven you, but I can’t!”
At the Lion, Gaynor asks Rachel to be “less physical” with Rhys, and in the ladies’ toilet, Rachel tells Lois she is sorry about Rhys, as Gaynor told her that Lois fancied him.   This causes friction between Lois and Gaynor;  “Satisfied now?   Keep your nose out!” says Lois, while Rachel smirks.
Rhys speaks to Lois, and says he is not looking forward to living with her mother.   They remember baby Gwen, and think that they could be parents with their own child;  there will always be that bond between them.   Rhys has a text that there is another party they can go to, but when Rachel says it would be awkward for Lois to go with them, as she fancies him, he dismisses it and the three leave;  when five desserts are served, Gaynor says they do not want to waste good food.
Anita is moping on the sofa, and will not go with Meic to the Deri;  he tells Dai that he used to be lonely, but there is no chance of that now;  Dai blames the gullible women for falling for the smarmy Moc, all over him like flies around dung.   Meic is disgusted by his attitude, and returns home, where he tells Anita to pack her bags, as they are going to North Wales for a week;  he knows how she feels, as he has had enough of the place, and needs some fresh air and a beach.
In the Deri, Dai is telling Gwynfor how everyone is so edgy, when Mark comes in, thinking that the interview went quite well.   Dai is convinced he has no chance, but Ricky rushes in to say the Post Office phoned for him.   He rings them and is told he starts training next week.   Ricky says, “To Cwmderi’s new postman!” while Dai simply glowers.   Meic and Anita are loading the car;  Meic calls to Sheryl that she can have the house to herself for a week, but she does not look happy.

Monday 26 August 2013
A stranger walks round the corner by Bethania;  he tells Jim that he knows where he is going.   Courtney tells Angela that her friend Mali is going to see the Lion King in London and she has been invited, but Angela says that they cannot afford it;  she forbids Courtney to ask Jim for the money.   Sioned looks hung over, but eventually agrees to go shopping later with Eileen.   When Courtney sees Jim and Eileen in the café, Eileen offers to pay for the London trip as an early birthday present.
Things are strained at Ffion’s, as Hywel has lost his voice and Jinx has to work extra hours at CwmFM, while she has work to do for the new term;  the smoke alarm is bleeping, which he tries to fix.   Jinx agrees to take Arwen to work with him, and phones Gemma to see if she can lend a hand on the radio.
At the shops, Eileen says Sioned must stop the self-pity, but Sioned retorts, “Eileen Markham, pillar of the community, and her daughter who contracted Hepatitis B!   I’ve never slept around, and now everyone thinks I’m dirty because Macs did!”   She stalks off home, so Eileen and Jim go for lunch together.   Eileen does not know what to do about Sioned, and Jim says she is much like him, flying off the handle.   They are like a family, and he wants her to reconsider his offer that they live together;  she says that it is a matter of timing – when Sioned is sorted out, they can decide.
The stranger goes into the shop, where Colin tells her the owner is Eileen;  the man says he has come from London to see an old friend.   Courtney tells her mother what Eileen said, and she is angry, with Courtney going behind her back;  Courtney replies, “Don’t treat me like a child!”   Angela marches off to Eileen’s and complains bitterly about trying to run her daughter’s life.   “You undermined me!   Do this again and I’ll stop her visiting!”
Ffion has been at home all day, working, and turned the radio off after hearing Jinx and Gemma talking about women leaving their babies in childcare whilst working.   She tells Jinx that she does not want to work full-time, but she does not know what to do.
At the Deri, Eileen suggests a plan, whereby they could take Courtney to London, with Angela’s permission, of course.   The stranger comes in and says, “Hello, Eileen.”   Her reaction is to ask what he is doing there, and he introduces himself to Jim as, “Tudur, I was at school with Eileen.   I was in the area and wanted to catch up.”   Jim goes off to get him a drink, and Tudur says he has to talk to Eileen in private;  she says she has nothing to say to him, feigns illness and asks Jim to take her straight home.

Tuesday 27 August 2013
Jim senses that all is not well with Eileen, but she simply says she is worried about Sioned;  he says it is something to do with the bloke she saw last night.
Tudur again turns up in the shop, telling Eileen it is important that he talks with her, but she tells him to leave her alone;  he says that he cannot tell Jim about it, but he is staying at Y Winllan and needs to talk to her.   Jinx tells Ffion they could cope if she worked part-time, but she insists she does not want to merely “cope”;  when she maintains it is her decision, he goes off to work.
Jim gives Eileen the message, and she finally admits the problem, which she has not mentioned to anyone for thirty years:  when she was at school, aged sixteen, she had a child with him, and no-one knew except the families;  the child was adopted and never mentioned again.   Jim thinks she is amazing, coping with that experience for so many years, but wonders what Tudur wants now.   She reluctantly says she will go to see him, alone.
On CwmFM, Jinx and Gemma talk about men being superficial;  while listening, Ffion finds a cartoon drawn by Jinx, and rings his phone, leaving a message of apology.   However, after they finish at the radio station, they go for a drink, and Jinx leaves his phone in the studio.   They bump into Sioned, who is drunk and flirting with a chap called Rhydian;  she throws herself at Jinx, and he and Gemma are worried about Sioned’s drinking.   Attempting to persuade her to go home, Jinx gets into an argument, and Rhydian punches him, then leaves the bar with Sioned in tow.
Tudur explains to Eileen that he went to London and married;  at last they had a son, who was killed eighteen months ago in a car crash, so he is looking for his other child.   Eileen commiserates, having lost John twenty years ago;  he says he has traced his daughter to Cwmderi and shows her a school photo, which she recognises as Angela, although she says she does not.   If she does not help him, he will show the photo round the village.   When Eileen gets home, she tells Jim an amended version, saying that their child died in an accident;  Jim reassures her when she says it is all such a mess.
Ffion is worried, not being able to contact Jinx, and is furious when he returns after drinking and getting hurt;  she hoped he would look after Arwen so she could do some work, but he is banished to the sofa tonight.

Wednesday 28 August 2013
When Jim asks Courtney about the idea of marrying Eileen, she is enthusiastically in favour and agrees to help Jim choose a ring.   Angela is at Penrhewl, where Marion is sad that she has not seen Sioned lately, and that she is not coping well with her illness;  about Cadno and Eifion she says, “It’s hard watching those we love ruining their lives.”
Sioned wakes up, disorientated, in a strange bed, and sees Rhydian getting dressed, ready for work;  when he throws down a wad of notes on the bed and asks if that is enough, she realises that he thought she was a “whore”.   Angry, she tells him that a woman alone in a bar does not mean she’s on the game, and he can keep his keep his filthy money.   He is pleased, having been celebrating promotion, and also “having a cheap night.”

Jim drives into the village, looks at the ring, then in his mirror sees Eileen talking to Tudur again;  she tells him that he is ruining her life, and the child’s, who is now an adult.   Jim goes into APD, as Tudur tells Eileen that, with or without her help, he will find his daughter.   Later when Jim asks her, she tries to play down the matter, and changes the subject to where he is taking her;  she is told she needs a passport.
Angela suggests a walk in the fresh air, and looking for Marian’s coat, finds more records, including waltz ones;  Marian says she will teach Angela to waltz, and they dance until Marian feels dizzy and sits on the bed.   When Angela returns with a glass of water, she can detect no pulse, and calls for an ambulance.
Jim is still wondering why Tudur will not leave Eileen alone, when her phone rings with the news about Marian;  Sioned is also summoned from the hotel room.   When they arrive at Penrhewl, the police and ambulance are there, but Marian has been pronounced dead;

Sioned is distraught that she has been a disappointment  and “messed up” with Marian, as well as her father and mother.   As she goes upstairs, Eileen receives a text that Tudur has found out who the girl is.   Downstairs, Jim and Angela argue about Courtney’s London trip;  Eileen has to go back to the shop to sort out the till.
Suddenly, Sioned shouts, “Angela, get the paramedics!”   Marian has started breathing again, and is rushed to hospital, in a confused state.   Sioned is totally dumbfounded, talking of “a miracle” and hugs Angela.
Eileen tells Tudur that she must be the one to tell the person concerned, and begs for some time;  he says that she has got until the end of the week – enough time has been wasted already.

Friday 30 August 2013  (1st)
At Penrhewl, an expert is explaining what happened to Marian:  suspected Lazarus Syndrome, a very rare occurrence, in which the heart starts again;  Angela’s CPR will have made a big difference.   Sioned goes to pack a bag for Marian, while Eileen needs an early night.
Jinx wants to go out, but Ffion is not keen, wanting to spend as much time as possible with Arwen before school starts next week;  when Jinx tells her she does not have to be full-time, she says she has worked hard to get where she is and does not want to waste it.   In the Deri, Jinx tells Dani he can’t do anything right, but Dani replies that it is difficult choosing between a career and a child;  soon Ffion arrives, “Sorry, again!” she says.
Sioned tells Eileen that when Marian awoke the only thing she thought of was she was getting a second chance, “Aren’t I selfish — only thinking of myself?”   Eileen says that none of us can escape our fate.
Debbie is amazed when Angela tells her what happened, and then asks, “How much longer can I live a lie with Kevin?”   She wants Meic “out of the way”, and Angela, seemingly approving of her ideas, advises her to bide her time.   Later, Kevin is looking at the school mouse in its cage and Debbie is moaning about the way Meic keeps the café accounts, and how she thinks he is “losing his marbles”;  when “mouse droppings” are mentioned, she has an idea.
In the Deri, Ffion is afraid she, an alcoholic, is holding Jinx back — Arwen is someone else’s baby and they are cousins;  Jinx lovingly replies, “All I want to do is take care of my alcoholic cousin and another man’s baby!”
Jim sees the girl from the shop, who denies all knowledge of problems with the till, which makes him suspicious.   Meanwhile Eileen has phoned Angela, wanting a private chat;  Angela goes to see her, and is told about Eileen’s baby, thirty years ago, who was adopted;  when Angela asks what this has to do with her, Eileen announces, “I’m your mother!”
Angela had been enquiring ten years ago, but found no information, as it was a private adoption, and the authorities were not involved;  she wanted her real mother to come looking for her, and is angry that Eileen did nothing.   “You wanted nothing to do with the child you gave away;  your family always comes first, and what will people think!”
Jim goes to have it out with Tudur, who explains everything, and confirms that the child is still alive, so Jim goes back to Eileen’s, and is devastated to find out the truth.   “You?” he says to Angela.
Eileen follows Angela outside and says that Sioned and Courtney should not get dragged into this.   Suddenly Debbie arrives and drags Angela away;  “Wait until I tell you how I’m going to bump off Meic!” she enthuses, but Angela simply walks away.
Jim tells Eileen it is no wonder she lied to him, and says it is best if he leaves.   When Angela gets home, Courtney tells her about Jim wanting to marry Eileen;  she tries to put on a brave face, and says she will pay for the London trip — “Don’t hassle Eileen.”

Friday 30 August 2013  (2nd)
Sioned bangs on Angela’s door, and accuses her of causing Marian’s problem by forcing her to dance;  she will report Angela and call for an investigation.   Sioned warns her not to go near Marian again.   Angela tells Eileen that Sioned blames her, but she did nothing to endanger Marian’s health;  Eileen agrees, and will speak to Sioned.   Angela says, “Having Sioned as a half-sister is almost worse than having you as a mother!” but does agree that Eileen can give her phone number to Tudur.
Debbie ensures that Kevin is not around, then puts some mouse droppings from the cage in a small container.   In the café, Sioned tells Eileen that the hospital are keeping Marian in over the weekend;  Eileen emphasises that it was not Angela’s fault, and she is just stirring up trouble, but Sioned will not back down.
In the Deri, Angela finds Jim, who says he will think up an excuse not to marry Eileen, to keep Courtney from finding out the truth, then Debbie comes to see Angela, asking her to come into the café, buy a lasagne to take away, then return to complain that it is contaminated with mouse droppings.
At the hospital, Marian tells Sioned that when she was presumed dead, she saw her mother and father, Bob and Denzil, and they seemed happy;  Sioned says they do not want to lose her yet.   The papers want to run Marian’s story, but she is more concerned that she has not seen Angela;  when Sioned explains, Marian is adamant that it was not Angela’s fault, and that we must not blame other people for things beyond our control.   She will not have a bad word said against Angela, and will not support Sioned’s complaint.   When Jim goes to see Eileen, he tells her it is best if they do not see each other for a while, much to her distress.
The café is busy when Angela goes in to carry out her instructions, but Tudur rings her and she accidentally picks up the wrong take-away, the one intended for her is collected by Jinx.   When Angela returns the chilli, Debbie panics and runs to Ffion and Jinx, wanting to change the meals over;  Ffion is not keen, but when offered free meals for a week, she relents.
Thus Angela brings the meal back to Kevin and complains about the mouse droppings, neatly sprinkled on the top.   Kevin immediately suspects;  a mouse, rather coincidental, but Debbie insists that Meic is not up to running a café.
Sioned apologises for what she said to Angela, now realising that she did not cause Marian’s problem, and asks her to continue caring for Marian.
Angela meets Tudur, who speaks of his son, Dylan;  she tells him that Eileen was about to marry her ex-husband.   In the circumstances he asks Angela not to be hard on Eileen – it is not her fault.
Colin’s impressions do not go down well, as he is mocking some of those present.   Sioned asks Eileen what is going on between her and Jim;  when Eileen gets home, in desperation she throws a cup at the wall.
